All hate monsoon when itcomes to deciding upon yourwardrobe. Nobody likes to bedrenched all through the dayand get irked when yourfavourite pair of jeans remainswet for long. Even washing thedirt off from the edges is an-other task that most dread. Itis the perfect time yourwardrobe undergoes a change.

Farhat Adnan from a fash-ion boutique said, Darkcolours should be preferred sothat clothes dont look dirty.Colours like maroon, green and

navy blue are good options. However, there are somebright colours that shine up thecull. The bright hues of fluores-cent and red add that cheerfultouch to your look whichmakes one look elegant andappealing in crowd. Whiteshould be avoided completelyas the season is of darkcolours.

In monsoon the semi-syn-thetic materials with polys andterries should be opted for. Thematerials shouldnt be too thickas they wont dry fast, whichirritates most of us. Lycra ma-terial will be most viable thisseason and the cotton shouldbe a strictly no during this sea-son as it not only does takeages to dry but gets dirtyfaster, Farhat added.

She further said, Geomet-ric prints are the in thing andso as the red and yellow topswith these prints which lookchic and fresh. As far as Indian

wear is concerned, the churi-dars in synthetic material areideal. The abstract designsalso look appealing when theclimate is all dark and cloudy.

Keeping the demands of theseason in mind, people areparticularly buying capris andbermudas so that the muckdoesnt spoil their appearance.City resident Sheetal Rao said

I have bought couple ofCapris for college and calflength pants to wear at home.Capris are extremely comfort-able in the soggy climate. Mysilver chappals go well withthem. The Capris that I got ismade of synthetic materialwhich falls freely from the hiparea and narrows down, itlooks enviable.

The designers also advise towear loose fitting tops as theynot only look good but also

dont stick on to the body ifone gets drenched. The loosetrousers can be ideal for the of-fice goers. The corduroy pantslook very chic and professionalat the same time. This is anideal season to experiment andone must learn to mix andmatch as in winter and sum-mer you have restrictions re-garding the synthetic stuff. Isuggest that people make themost of this wonderful, joyousmonsoon, another designersaid. Just pick up your brownkurti and team it up with aknee length skirt along withbow shaped shoes that you

have. Play with your wardrobeand turn it around 360 degreesto make it look as pleasant asthe weather itself.

As you grow older, you will be facedwith some challenging decision whichmay involve serious moral questions.Making decisions on your own is hard, but when other people get involved andtry to pressurise you one way or theother it can be even harder.

People who are of your age, likeyour classmates, are called peers. Peerpressure is a term describing the pres-sure exerted by a peer group in en-couraging a person to change his/herbehaviour and attitude, for example, their fashion sense, taste in music, out-look towards life etc. Its somethingeveryone has to deal with - even adults.

You already know that the teenyears can be very tough. You are figur-ing out what you are, what you believein, what you are good at and what yourplace in the world is going to be. Itsobviously comforting to face challengeswith friends who feel or think the sameway you do. You might not have hearda lot about it, but peers have a pro-foundly positive influence on each oth-ers lives. Friendship makes you more

    goal-oriented.Feedback and wise advice, encour-

agement, new experiences are thegood effects of peer influence.

But, every coin has two sides. Near-ly everyone ends up in a sticky peerpressure situation at some point. Nomatter how wisely you choose yourfriends, or how well you think you knowthem, sooner or later youll have tomake decisions that are difficult andcould lead to your infamy.

It may be something as simple as re-sisting the pressure to spend your hardearned baby sitting money on the latestMP3 player that everybody has. Or itmay mean deciding to take a stand thatmakes you seem uncool to your group.

When people are unsure of what todo in a social situation, they naturallylook to others for cues as to what is andisnt acceptable. Responding to peerpressure is a part of human nature - butmost people are more likely to give in,while some are able to resist and standtheir ground.

When it becomes difficult to figureout what is right for you. Think aboutthe following:

    * Listen to your gut. If you feel un-comfortable, even if your friends seemto be OK with whats going on, it meansthat something about the situation iswrong for you. This kind of decision-making is part of becomingself-reliant and learningmore about who you are.

    * Plan out for possiblesituations. If youd like to goto a party but you believe you may beoffered alcohol or drugs there, thinkahead about how youll handle thischallenge. Learn a few tricks.

If youre holding a bottle of water ora can of soda, for instance, youre lesslikely to be offered a drink you dontwant.

    * Be comfortable saying a no. Withgood friends you should never have tooffer an explanation or apology. But ifyou feel you need an excuse for, say, turning down a drink or smoke, think

up a few lines you can use casually.* Hang with the people who feel the

same way you do, and thats the bestthing you can do.

Choose friends who will speak upwith you when youre in need of moralsupport, and be quick to speak up for afriend in the same way. Just having oneother person stand with you againstpeer pressure makes it much easier forboth people to resist.

It isnt always easy toresist negative peer pres-sure, but when you do, it iseasy to feel good about itafterwards. Pay attention

to your own feelings. Be yourself. Al-ways be comfortable with your choic-es.

When ugly situations arise andpeer pressure kicks in to high gear itis very easy to get caught up in themoment and forget that you will haveto live with the choices you make. Ifyou give in and do something that iscontrary to your character or core val-ue system it will cause you distresslater and you will feel regret. Standyour ground but refrain from standing

on a soap box. Remember, peer pres-sure can win only if you let it.

    Dont buckle under peer pressure

Warning: I have an attitude and I know how touse it.

Chances are that you must have read thisline on a T-shirt of a young college boy. Suchsleazy, snappy and witty lines are famousamong the youths these days, especially amongthe crowd who would be soon joining their de-gree courses once the lists are out. They say itis because some of these lines represent themthe best, in terms of attitude. Attitude has be-come an important accessory in college thesedays.

City resident Abhishek Mhatre said, I haverecently got a T-shirt saying Im not alwaysRight but Im never Wrong. It looks cool andgets a lot of attention. These lines are very wit-ty and make a good impression on the oppositeperson as everyone appreciates a little sense ofhumour as in new college it will be a difficulttask to stand out in crowd and such T-shirts willdefinitely make me look unique. These young-sters are already thinking about the ways to cre-ate an impression with those from the oppositesex. While boys wear the lines with an i ntentionof impress girls, the girls have a different theo-ry behind wearing such T-shirts.

The girls either want to show of their latestcollection to envy other girls or they just want towear it for fun. However, there is no denyingthat there are a few who wear it just to seeksome attention.

I have been buying such Ts right from thetime I was in junior college. My friends wouldeagerly wait for the next T-shirt that I mightbuy. My favourite one was with the li ne I dontcare who wins or lose as long as YOU lose. Itwas very cool and I liked to show it off. Actual-ly Im a big fan of Sania Mirza and thats how Igot obsessed to collect such Ts, said anothercity resident Shefali Nair. She further said thatthe only one-liner she was bowled over by was

Virginity is not sincerity but loss of opportuni-ty. No prizes for guessing it was worn buy aguy. Many teachers dont appreciate when thestudents wear T-shirts with such unnervingthoughts and come to college thats where thedress code comes in and is becoming stricter
