FOREWORD TItle: Chased down by God. by Walt Meyer JulieMeyerMinistries.com Facebook: Walt Meyer 2016 I used to consider myself hopeless and very far from God. Even though I truly felt that way, it was not really completely true! God chased me down and revealed His love to me in an amazing way in 1971. When it dawned on me that this mysterious God in Heaven actually loved me, it blew my mind. Then when I realized that He wanted to help me and bless my life and future, it really blew my mind. I never knew that I could lean in towards God (my Heavenly Father) and actually experience that He was real. Then someone told me that I could talk to God and that He wanted to be close to me, so I gave it a try. Well, to my pleasant surprise it worked. I leaned into Him just a little and He reached down from Heaven (a lot) and poured out His Spirit on my lost and lonely life! I was struggling with drugs and drinking (at the age of 16) and God helped me stop misusing drugs overnight. No one can ever take that away from me. I had voices in my head saying "you are a loser and nothing good ever happens to you". Then I began to hear His voice saying "I love you and I want you to know me". Maybe you are struggling with issues that seem hopeless. Maybe God seems a million miles away and you feel unworthy to even ask Him for help. I can share that God wants to be your friend and father. He wants to be intimate with you. He knows how to get your attention, as He did mine in 1971. There is hope for anyone who give God a sincere chance. Just lean into Him and watch what He does! He really does love us with a perfect love. It is not based on how good or bad we are. God loves to give His children good gifts because He is just simply....good! As a young man, as I read my Bible, I found characters in the Bible that I could relate to in various ways. I would venture to say that Joseph (son of Jacob) in the book of Genesis is one of my favorites. Joseph suffered being nearly killed by his brothers and thrown into a pit. Then later on he served as a Prince before Pharaoh. From the pit to the palace. What a great and true story! Joseph was one of the youngest sons of the 12 sons of Jacob and his older brothers gave him lots of trouble. Part of the trouble came from Joseph himself, for he had been given huge dreams by God and he boasted to his brothers about how great he would become one day. Well, of course this made his brothers angry and they conspired to kill him. They beat him up and left him for dead, but he was rescued by a traveler and then sold to an Egyptian official as a slave. He was probably about 13 years of age and yet this official could see that Joseph had an

He was probably about 13 years of age and yet this official could see that Joseph had an

excellent spirit. He trusted Joseph over the years with more and more responsibility and Joseph's work as a slave was blessed by God.  I can relate to some of this story because I have felt rejected at times from people that I loved. I have felt that I was sold out and my life was a disaster. But this story about Joseph is so amazing! Even though he foolishly boasted that God had given him dreams that his brothers would bow down to him one day, he somehow kept his heart from growing bitter and he did not give up under terrible circumstances. God's love and favor was upon because God could see his heart, even though his character was still young and immature.  He also developed a gift of interpreting dreams. In the book of Daniel, it reveals the prophet Daniel also had this gift and both Joseph and Daniel were used by God to use this gift to help the kings that had imprisoned them. So even when our world seems dark and oppressed, God can still use us and keep us in His love and care. You have been given various gifts from God and He wants to bless you and others with those gifts. Those gifts can also help you connect with God. They are like tools and the more you use them, the more you can see how gracious God is towards people.  OK, back to Joseph in Egypt. He was falsely accused by someone and thrown into a jail. Egyptian jails were actually more like pits. So this was the second pit of his young life. He ended up becoming the keeper of that jail and word got out that he was good at interpreting dreams. Pharoah had been getting dreams that troubled him greatly. So Joseph was brought to him (at the age of 30) and he helped Pharoah understand the dreams. The dreams foretold of a 7 year famine that would come to Egypt in 7 years. Pharaoh could see that Joseph was a good man and that the Spirit of God was upon him. So he appointed Joseph as his second in charge overseer and ordered Joseph to store up grain for 7 years. All of Egypt's power and authority was given to Joseph for this task. Joseph did a great job and was rewarded by Pharaoh with a wife and wealth. Joseph saved Egypt from the famine and even his own family (including his jealous brothers) were brought to Egypt and saved as well.  This true story inspires me to not quit when things are bad. I have learned that I can find God in the dark times. Joseph somehow leaned into God and as he matured in wisdom and integrity, everyone could see that God was with him.  God not only wants to "use" us for great things, but He mostly wants to be our friend and father. Jesus is of course our Saviour. He has saved us from our mistakes (sins). God has given us His very own Spirit (Holy Spirit) to help us and empower to us to be the best we can be in life. This brings glory to God and it also fulfills the longing in our hearts to be significant. God loves to give us the desires of our hearts, because He put them in there. He has given us wonderful gifts as well and wants us to surrender them to Him so that He can make us like Himself. That way we won't burn out and lose our way. God is a good father and wants His children happy and whole (complete and mature). This does not happen overnight, but once we start leaning into His love a whole new power comes into our lives by His Spirit.

Our Heavenly Father wants us to talk to Him. I know it can sound silly at first, but the more we talk to Him and learn to listen to His quiet voice inside us, the easier it gets! God has become my best friend and I would never trade my life for the life I used to have. God has blessed me in so many ways and all I can say is He has done all this because He truly loves me.  I encourage you to read Barbara's slowly and drink it like a fine wine. Take your time and think about (meditate) on what she has to share. This book will empower you to know God better and how to have a more fulfilled life. She tells her story of how God healed her from cancer and has given her a rich life and family. You too can find a deeper relationship with God and this book contains practical steps as to how to grow closer to God and to people.
