Dear Parents and Guardians

The Year 3 and 4 students had a fabulous time at Arrabri Lodge, thoroughly

enjoying all the different opportunities. I visited the campers on Thursday and

We had a very positive response to Education Week with many visitors to the

school. They were very impressed with the students’ focus on their work and many

comments were made about the warm welcome visitors felt when visiting

classrooms.

Thanks to the parents who helped out on the working bee. A lot was achieved in

making the school grounds presentable for open week.

If you are in the playground please visit the vegetable boxes located near the Regal

Avenue entrance. Kathryn Manago and her helpers are decorating them with a

WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY

Thank you to all students, parents and carers and teachers who walked

safely into school together on Friday May 18.

The rain held off and we were at Donburn in no time as we chatted along the

way, from Tunstall Square or the Edge Church.

It was a great way to start the day and to reduce traffic around Donburn.

Great effort everyone!

YEAR 1s HAVE A SCHOOLYARD SAFARI INCURSION

Last week Year 1 students were lucky enough to have a visit from ‘Lizzy’s

Lizards’. We were able to observe the behaviour of small animals such as

lizards, frogs and turtles including how they feed and interact with others.

Lizzy helped us identify features that help the animals adapt to their

environment and protect themselves against predators. It was so great to be

able to feel and hold the animals too! Here are some of our thoughts about

the incursion.

It was the first time I had held a snake. The skin felt smooth. - Alexis 1HS

It was the first time I saw a real desert lizard called Sandy. I got to see my

favourite kind of bird, which is a rainbow parakeet. Lily Jean 1HS

I was very happy to see a real snake and I learnt about it. Snakes can be one

of the most dangerous animals in the world. - Maya 1HS

The lizard can live in the desert.- CJ 1HS

The tail of a lizard helps it to balance. The tail can grow back if bitten off.

Amy 1HS

It was the first time I saw a blue tongue lizard do a wee. It was so funny! I got

to feel a frog too, it was smooth. - Harlan 1HS

I liked seeing all the animals but the frog was so wet and slimy! I thought the

snake was cool but it looked like it was going to bite me! -Sam 1HS

YEAR 1s HAVE A SCHOOLYARD SAFARI INCURSION

I enjoyed the green frog because it was green and it can jump high. It was a

green tree frog. It was interesting that the girl lizard had a yellow tummy and

the boy lizard had an orange tummy. Owen 1D

A stick insect looks like a stick so it can hide from danger. Evan 1D

I enjoyed holding the different types of insect. Rio 1G

It was cool to see the blue tongue lizard eat the cricket. Natasha 1G

I liked the blue tongue lizard and I loved that the snake was around my neck

Claire 1G

I didn’t know that dragon lizard scales were spiky and hard to touch. Daniel 1G

On Tuesday May 22 the Year 6 students of Donburn primary had the privilege

to go to East Doncaster Secondary College to watch their performance of little

shop of horrors.

Their costumes were bright and colourful and

added life into their performance. The actors

and singers of the play fitted and played their

roles perfectly. It was very clear they worked

hard on it. The storyline flowed smoothly and

was understandable.

The play was split into two parts by an

interval, giving us time to have a snack and

predict the rest of the story. The music suited

the mood of the play and the lighting was

dramatic when needed.

Over all, the performance was entertaining

and funny throughout. The Year 6s were very

honoured to see the result of a long time of

hard work.

YEARS 3 / 4 ARRAABRI LODGE CAMP

I liked the giant swing because they didn’t tell us when we were going to drop,

so it was very scary and exciting! – Jacinta 3K

Orienteering was really fun because you had to find all the letters that were

hidden. The hardest one was near the cabin, it was actually on the roof and

so hard to find! - Nate 3K

Flying fox was awesome because it felt scary to begin with, but when I was

actually doing it, I felt really calm and free.- Eleni 3K

YEARS 3 / 4 ARRAABRI LODGE CAMP

The ropes course was hard because there were logs that moved and you

needed to swing to get across. It was even harder because team work was

needed! - Tanvi and Kris 3K

Initiatives was really fun because there was a pretend river that we had to

use a Tarzan rope to get across. I used my problem solving skills to get a

stick to help my team to get across! - James 3K

I liked the night walk because we got to toast marshmallows on the camp fire

at the top! - Maya 3K

I liked cooking the damper because it tasted really good with the jam and

butter mixed together. It was so fun to make it! - Kris 3K

Archery was really challenging when I had to hold it with my left hand, but I

got the hang of it and I nearly shot some bullseyes. It was so hard to get it on

the bullseye. - Isaac and Danny 3K

Mini golf was really fun because you could only take eight shots at one hole.

There were some tricky parts to discover. - Charlie 3K

got to tell the judges that they were rubbish at scoring! Allie gave Miss

O’Reilly a “doughnut”. - Jacob and Maya 3K

The games room was fun to play with my friends because there were so many games in there! - Hayden 3K
