I have a keen interest in research and product development. I take pride in following a simple philosophy of designing products that are: clean in form, understandable and easy to use.

Having gained industry experience from her work at Mathmos Ltd, Samsung and Marks & Spencer PLC, I have the knowledge to undertake research and innovative design with confidence.

I got selected to be the Creative Director for Ravensbourne’ prestigious end of year Degree Shows due to my excellent people and leadership skills. I am keen to gain as much industry experience as possible, and I am a very fast learner.

USER RESEARCH CARRIED OUT FOR A MAJOR ELECTRONICS COMPANY.

Page 7: Julie Zoe Kjernes - Portfolio

Being recruited to carry out an extensive project for a major corporate electronics company, I got trained to go in-depth qualitative research, user experience and teamwork.

I carried out a mass of ethnographic and interviewing research, and met very engaging people. The team worked mostly via brainstorming meetings and in corporate headquarters in London. The team was pitching to client throughout the process.

The project involved engaging users in washing and food environments through ethnograhpy.

These insights were informed by probes, interviews, scenario mapping and visual surveys.

The gathered material informed future scenarios of interest for the client.

from my probes together, they formed a character

that has OCD. Therefore my brief became a design for a

fictitious person.

- DO NOT LEAN TOWARDS SEATS

- DO NOT TOUCH POLES

- AFRAID OF GREASE MARKS

- AFRAID OF FAECES ON SEAT

- COMPULSIVE CLEANING

JULIE HAS BROUGHT A CONFIDENCE AND FLAIR TO THE DESIGN PROCESS BY BRINGING TO LIFE HER CREATIVE VISION FOR RAVENSBOURNE2011 WITH AN INFECTIOUS ENTHUSIASM. SHE HAS PRESENTED TO SENIOR STAFF, ARTICULATING THE VISION EFFECTIVELY AND MANAGED A COMPLEx RANGE OF DEMANDS TO A HIGH STANDARD.

The creative director is charged with determining the best ways for us to visually represent our college identity throughout the entire event. It’s very much a people-oriented job, involving development of high-level concepts for design projects but also connecting students that are in need of help to realise their installation ambitions.

It involves working with internal and external industry, not just from my department (design) but media and broadcasting, pitching designs, and understanding industries expectations and wants in future employees. At times, the show require you to develop visual designs, and at other times, the Creative Director will be responsible for recruiting and managing third party design processes and installations as well as internal design resources.
