    WHAT ROLE HAS THE LEADER PLAYED IN CHAMPIONING GENDER AND GBVACTIVITIES?

    In 2009, co-founded the Men for Change Network, HOPEM, a civil societynetwork composed of 25 national/international organizations and human rightsactivists dedicated to address negative masculinities/engage men and boys infighting GBV, promoting gender equality and SRH. Julio is the current coordinatorof HOPEM and has been leading its campaigns

    As the UNiTE campaign focal person in Mozambique, 2011, worked with civilsociety organizations, UN Women and the government to acelerate the end ofGBV. One of the highlihts of this work was the creation of the firstmultistakeholder/multisectoral platform for coordination of GBV efforts and policydialogue (GCCV) at national level

    Has been a facilitator at Forum Mulher(major feminist network in Mozambique),and volunteer in GBV initiatives, for 6 years. At Forum Mulher co-facilitadedseminars on the domestic violence act to local magistrates/prosecutors andtrainings on GBV to mens groups which was the ground for HOPEM foundation

    Co-chair of the Youth Leaders Initiative, 2012, an initiative tostrenghten the engagement/commitement of young leaders fromcivil society, private sector, religious organizations and governmentagencies in figthing GBV

    Member of the MenEngage Alliance steering comitee in Africa, whichis a global network of UN Agencies, Country networks and NGOsworking to engage men & boys for gender equality and erradicationof GBV

    In 2011, trained 25 local NGOs in accountability monitoring of GBVnational commitements using the CSA/Rhodes University approachto social accountability

    parliament etc to address GBV and other womensdiscrimination in public

    Creation of the first multistakeholder/multisectoral platform forcoordination of GBV efforts and policy dialogue (GCCV) at nationallevel, leaded by the Ministry of Women and Social Action, involvingUn agencies, civil society organizations and government agencies

    Increased awareness on GBV of at least 3000 african athletes andabout 15 000 expectators at the All Africa Games held in Maputo,2011

    Implemented a multidisciplinary exhibition (including press reports

    on GBV, cartoons,videos, photos, campaign materials, instrumentsused in GBV etc) on masculinities and GBV which resulted inhundreds of people becoming aware of GBV
