Homebound Ministry

Hello everyone, The Gospel this weekend reminds us that our

mission is to go out and spread the word of God. When we are baptized, we share the threefold offices of Jesus Christ: Priest, Prophet and King. But how do we live out these offices? Vatican II explains to us:

“Lay believers are in the front line of Church life; for them the Church is the animating principle of human society. Therefore, they in particular ought to have an ever-clearer consciousness not only of belonging to the Church, but of being the Church (CCC, 899).

All of us are invited to make a difference in the lives of many people around us. Before ascending into heaven, Jesus assigned to His disciples and us, this precious mission. Therefore, we need to proclaim the voice of truth, to call to repentance, to serve the lowly, to bring healing to the sick, and to build up a loving and caring society.

As a part of the Church’s body, we are called to cooperate with the bishop and priest to fulfill her mission. Despite our zeal, we cannot go by ourselves or in our own ways, but Jesus, through the Church, sends us to serve and build up God’s kingdom in the world with our talents and abilities. In his homilies, Pope Francis has unceasingly invited us all to get out of our “comfort zone” to encounter Jesus in the poor, the sick and the marginalized.

Let us give thanks to God for sharing his mission with us. May we respond generously and find great joy in building his kingdom on earth.

As we resume the Ministry to the Homebound and the Nursing Homes, I am so grateful for the the many ministers that are coming back. Contact Sister Mai, if you are interested in serving God in this meaningful ministry. Training is available upon request.

In Christ, Sr. Mai Do

Our church is looking for some volunteers to help throughout the week during the summer. We need someone to come help keep our

grounds in tip top shape, we have enough mowers but need some trimmers and weed pullers.

We also need someone to come help sort scrap metal that has been collected.

If either of these are things you can help us with, call Laura or Michelle in the office, 616-455-9310

Stop your taxes from paying for abortion. For decades, Congress has protected your money from paying for abortion. Now, some powerful government officials are trying to change that. Take action and sign the petition to Congress at TaxpayerAbortion.com.

Want to see our raffle items early and put your tickets in the bags before the big day? Then come to room #6 after Mass on Saturday, July 17th as well as after the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses on Sunday, July 18th. We will be selling tickets at that time. You will be able to buy tickets the day of the raffle as well, which is at our Parish Cookout on July 25th.

We have a couple of parishioners who would like to have a ride to Mass. If you are interested in helping, please contact the office, 616-455-9310, for more details.

Just a reminder that per the Diocese of Grand Rapids, if you are fully vaccinated, you are no longer required to wear a mask or facial covering. If you are unvaccinated it is recommended, but not required, that a mask or facial covering be worn. Also, many parishioners simply feel more comfortable wearing a mask so please be kind and respectful to all.

I am very excited to have the Saturday Ensemble playing again at Mass. Please welcome these musicians back warmly. If you are interested in singing or playing an instrument in our Saturday Night Ensemble, please talk to me after Mass or send me a message at [email protected]. Our Sunday Morning Ensemble is looking for more voices and instruments to join us at the 9am Sunday Mass. Both of these groups, the Saturday Night Ensemble and Sunday Morning Ensemble, are flexible with attendance. Rehearsals are 45 minutes before Mass. If you prefer a more structured choir experience, mark your calendars for Thursday night rehearsals in the fall and singing in our 11am Adult Choir. HIGH SCHOOL students and older are welcome. For the next few weeks I'd like to share my thought process for planning the music. This is how I chose music for this weekend's Mass: This weekend's readings had many themes to pick up on between the prophet Amos's calling, the apostles' mission, and St. Paul's rich Christology in the Epistle. I had more music in mind than I could choose. It was a good problem to have. Our entrance hymn, Lord, Whose Love In Humble Service, connects Christ's work- told in the First Reading- to the work we are called to continue. "Still your children wander homeless/ still the hungry cry for bread/ still the captives cry for freedom/ still in grief we mourn our dead." Even though the tune we use to sing these words is a little older and might not be some people's taste, I think the words are powerful and make this song worth singing. The hymn at offertory is Praise the One Who Breaks the Darkness which speaks of Christ's mission, of his mercy, and Christ as the cause of our hope. It marries the Epistle and the Gospel with a joyful Celtic melody. Our Communion hymn is an old favorite, Here I Am, Lord. It is not a Eucharistic hymn, but the song is easy to sing, well loved, and the refrain can be used to begin a conversation with our Lord at Communion. Lastly, the recessional hymn is a reminder to put our words to actions in, Deliver Us, O Lord of Truth. Every Mass ends with a command to "Go." We are called to carry Christ out into the world and to continue his mission. Our recessional hymn is a prayer to "deliver us, O Lord of Truth, from speech unbacked by deeds/ from lives that by their faithlessness deny our spoken creed." God Bless you this week, Emily

July 11th, 2021 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B

With the pandemic this year and not knowing when we would be able to open up or what restrictions we would have, we decided not to have our 3 day Parish Festival. So on Sunday, July 25th we will have a Parish Cook-out. We’re keeping it simple this year and will only have burgers, hot dogs, and Italian sausage. There will also be chips, pop/water, and ice cream. We just want to come together and catch up with each other.

We have a wonderful afternoon of events scheduled. We will have food from noon to 2pm, a snack walk for the kids, and yard games available for all to enjoy. You can purchase tickets for the lunch items the day of the event under the tent. Also don’t forget we will be having the second half of the raffle baskets available, so buy your tickets to try and win your favorite! If you are available and would like to volunteer during the Cook Out, or to help with the set up or clean up, please sign up in the Gathering area or call the office. To keep it simple and to stay within any COVID guidelines, we are not able to accept any homemade desserts or treats this year. The Festival Committee is looking for a fun event for August and maybe even September. If you have any local band suggestions for a possible concert night or movie suggestions for another movie night, or something that just sounds like it would be fun to do, please let the office know.

+++ Our next blood drive will be August 15th from 8am-1pm. Please go to :https://donate.michigan.versiti.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/129880 to sign up. Our goal is 20 unites of blood which will impact 60 people.
