From the Pastor’s Desk Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Theme: “God’s Forbearance, Patience”
Welcome to the 16th Sunday in Ordinary time. Our God is kind, loving, and merciful. He
knows each one of us better than we know ourselves. He knows those who are successful
and those who are failures, those who have worked hard, and those who are lazy. One
question I want to pose for our reflection today, as individuals, families, community, and
congregation, how do we consider those we feel are failures (good for nothing) in our midst?
Do we give them a second chance to prove themselves? Bear in mind, God treats everyone
equally whether he/she is good or bad, moral or immoral, sinful or virtuous, weed or wheat
until his second coming. He lets His sun shine on both and lets His rain shower on both
equally.
Today Jesus tells a series of parables that highlight the measured pace of the Kingdom.
The Kingdom is like a mustard seed, rising dough, and crops planted in a field. All these
take time to reach their proper end. In order to have a successful loaf of bread, a good crop,
and beautiful flowers, we must wait. You can’t rush the baker or the farmer. The bread
never rises, the rose doesn’t bloom and the crops don’t’ mature if they are rushed. Continued on page 3
Desde el Escritorio del Pastor
Décimosexto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Tema: “La Paciencia de Dios, la Paciencia”
Bienvenido al Dácimosexto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario. Nuestro Dios es amable,
amoroso y misericordioso.

y corazones a Dios.
pertenece a Dios.
(Continued from page 1)
I have a little garden at the entrance of the church. Every
morning after prayer and morning devotion, the next place I
will go to is the garden. I admire how they are growing every
day. Every evening, I water it, hoping to enjoy one day the
fruits that are going to come from it.
What does this teach us about God on his attitude towards
each one of us? God is patient and forbearing. In our first
reading from the book of Wisdom, God has the care of all
in his heart. God is just, patient and forbearing. Our God is
a God of mercy and wants to extend the greatest amount of
understanding to all his creatures. God does not rush to
condemn but is slow and patient because he is a patient
waiter. God has the strength to suffer and struggle with us.
Romano Guardini would say in his book, ‘The virtues’,
“patience demands strength- great strength. The supreme
patience rests upon omnipotence. Because God is the
omnipotent, he can be patient with the world.” This makes
a difference from the human being who sees things from his
own image instead of in the image of God. This different
way of seeing reality prompts man to destroy himself and
nature…
St. Paul demonstrates the reality of our human condition as,
‘Weakness.’ God sent the Spirit into our hearts so that we
can turn from sin and lift our minds and hearts to God.
God’s patience comes from His great understanding and
love for us. God wants us to labor in love so as to reach the
full measure of His dream for our lives. God loves and
respects us to the extent he cannot rush His loving work.
(His creature) When God made us, He knew it would take
time for man to realize himself. God is willing to wait.
God has not finished with us.
The patient and the love of God should be a source of
encouragement and caution on the way we see and treat
others. We must resist the temptation to despair that often
assails us. We must not give up on ourselves and others
because God will never desert or abandon us no matter our
human condition. His love is everlasting. We must be
cautious not to judge others harshly, Judgment belongs to
God. The parable of the wheat and weeds is crucial for us.
We can be too quick to classify some as saved and others
as damned. Through grace, weeds can become good crops
for harvest. Let us stop seeing some in our images rather
than in the image and likeness of God.
Today as we stand and kneel in the presence of that God of
justice and kindness, let us beg for his mercy and promise
him that with his help we may both be just and kind toward
our neighbors, to our spouses, children, parents, our priests
and to all we feel they are not worthy of our patience and
love.

Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
