• The Yarmouth Clam Festival’s inaugural event was in 1965, making 2019 the 54th Festival.

• More than 85,000 visitors from 32 states (primarily Maine and New England) and over 10 foreign countries are expected to attend the three-day Festival.

• Over thirty-five local non-profit organizations work to raise funds by selling food, parking cars, picking up trash, and helping with setup and breakdown.

• The record for the Maine state clam-shucking contest is 25 clams per minute! The secret to winning the shucking contest - it’s all in the wrist!

• According to a reliable old-timer, one year 50 bushels of clams (about 10,000 clams!) and over 600 lobster were served.

• Over 60 musical acts and entertainers will perform on three stages.

• Over 160 crafters, artists, and photographers from Maine and New England display and sell their work.

• Ten plus miles of electrical wire is run to power the Festival.

• The Festival’s mile-and-a-half, hour-long parade has over 130 floats, marching bands, antique cars, and unique entertainers from all over Maine and New England. The parade draws thousands of spectators that line the entire length of Main Street.

• The Clam Festival used to be the Firemen’s Field Day and the Firefighter’s Muster is a well- preserved tradition attracting firefighters and spectators from all over Maine and New England.

• About 6,000 pounds of clams, 6,000 lobster rolls, 2,500 pancake breakfasts, 2,000 shore dinners, 400 homemade pies, and 6,000 strawberry shortcakes are expected to be consumed at the Festival. All are washed down with 10,000+ Lime Rickey’s (a signature Festival beverage).

• On Saturday evenings we host a spectacular firework display that lights up the Yarmouth sky.

• The Festival mascot, Steamer the Clam, was created in 2004. The human inside the shell is a well-kept secret. Steamer’s wardrobe includes 4 hats: a sou’wester, baseball cap, birthday hat, and “Cat In The Hat” hat.

• Over 4.5 tons of ice is consumed.

• 4,530 lbs of trash was composted , and 260 gallons of cooking oil was recycled in 2018.
