July 2, 2018 The Art of Storytelling Robert L. Taylor Community Complex had a storyteller from the Association of Florida Teaching Artists come in to tell the story of a woman and her name. The artist acted out the emotions and physical activity as she told the story. She wrote vocabulary words and recurring words as the story progressed. Once she was done telling the story, the campers went around the circle re-telling the story in their own words using the new vocabulary words. What a creative way to learn vocabulary and the art of storytelling! The Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading also wants to congratulate Robert L. Taylor Community Complex for their superb reporting!! Every week they report a detailed account of their activities and how they relate to reading comprehension. They also have reported complete information for all participants in the SSBC! Complete information for each student is of the utmost importance in obtaining accurate outcome data for each site. Well Done Anna Maria Oyster Bar Locations! It is amazing how fast four weeks can pass, especially when everyone is having fun! Anna Maria Oystlocations have had another successful summer as part of the Suncoast Summer Book Challenge. Each week

Art Walk Campers at Alta Vista had Alicia Loomis, an art teacher, visit them this week. She read The Sun is My Favorite Star by Frank Asch and everyone created their own pictures of the sun with oil pastels. T

The Dream Center hosted author and publisher Vincent Taylor who created a series of books male protagonist and a multicultural influence. The Cornbread children’s books were presented with a rhythmic reading rap that got everyone excited about reading!

Story Telling

Brentwood Summer Learning Academy - Using the book Gruffalo as their guide, the students created their own character crowns cutting and pasting different characters onto a crown that the were able to wear. In addition the students talked and demonstrated their understanding of new vocabulary words such as clever, forest, and courage. The crowns openedthe conversation through accountable talk to the importance of nature and how it has a connection to us and the world we live in.
