Brilliant Borreaton

Year 5 had a brilliant time on their three-day residential

trip to Borreaton Park near Shrewsbury at the start of

July.

During their visit they had the chance to take part in a

wide range of outdoor adventurous activities that were

available at the site. These included: driving quad bikes

around a track, riding on a giant swing, jumping off a tall

pole onto a swinging trapeze, learning how to fence and

shooting rifles at targets. Lots of children worked

extremely hard to conquer their fear of heights and were

pleasantly surprised at how much they actually enjoyed

doing some of the more challenging activities.

For many children in the class however, the highlights of

the trip were probably the raft building task where they

had to work together as a team to construct a raft out of:

plastic barrels, wooden planks and rope before then

attempting to float it on a lake and the big disco on the

last night when everyone (boys included) got to show off

their funky dance moves.

All the children had so much fun that nobody even had

the chance to get homesick. The whole class were a

credit to the school and I’m sure that they will take home

many happy memories which they will remember fondly

for many years to come.

football World Cup campaign by

coming dressed in red and white

clothes one day in June.

Cracking Cefn Lea

Year 6 had a fantastic time on their residential trip to Cefn Lea in Wales back in

June. The week began on the Monday with a stop off in Welshpool and a visit to a

falconry centre where the children loved watching the bird show. On the Tuesday,

they went to the Red Ridge Centre where they had the chance to have a go at lots

of adventurous activities like artificial caving and kayaking on a lake. On the

Wednesday they visited an animalarium in the morning where those brave

enough got to hold snakes and baby crocodiles and they then went rock-pooling

in Aberystwyth in the afternoon. Finally on the Thursday they then went to the

Centre for Alternative Technology to learn about renewable energy sources and

King Arthur’s Labyrinth to learn about the man behind the famous legend.

As you can see it was an extremely busy but fun time and everyone came back to

school on the Friday very excited and very tired!

Skipton Castle Trip

As part of their topic work on ‘Castles’, Year 1 and 2

children went on a day trip to Skipton Castle in

Yorkshire to learn about its history.

They had a great time exploring all the rooms

inside what is considered to be the best-preserved

medieval castle in Britain, including the: kitchen,

great hall and bed chambers and finding out

what exactly life was like for the people

who used to live in the castle. Some children

even got the chance to go down into the

dungeons and experience what it would

have been like for prisoners

when the lights went

off!

bodies, including taking regular

exercise and how to respond to

peer-pressure.

the English National Ballet

who taught them how

to create a dance for

each of the four seasons.

May Day Celebrations

Children from Years 5 and 6 took part once again in Middleton’s annual

May Day celebrations outside St. Leonard’s Church at the start of May.

They all ignored the clouds and brought their own sunshine

to the event by joining in a procession around Jubilee

Park before then dancing around the May pole in front of

the watching crowds. They performed a variety

of traditional dances to mark the arrival of

summer and the end of winter, including a

beautiful platted ribbon and a tangled

spider’s web.
