Highlights include our new solar panels, Ecokids Olympic Fun Day, creation of new green spaces in Northfield Town Centre, free family cycle rides and the Birmingham Half Marathon fundraiser. We’re working with Northfield Town Centre Partnership to identifydisused land in and around Northfield Town Centre to transforminto thriving green spaces, community gardens and even smallallotments.

And we’re looking for local people to help us!

If you live locally and want to see your high street improved, have afew hours to spare, love gardening or you have no experience andwant to learn - this could be for you. You could even save yourselfand your neighbours money by growing your own fruit and veg! Andof course there’s all the health benefits of fresh air, and exercisefrom digging and planting. Why not give it a go and join in with thefun! People of all ages welcome, including families.

Tuesday 10 July. 10am - 1pm, £29Foraging isn’t just a countryside past-time, it can be an urbanadventure too! Join us for a delightful day wandering the urban wildsof Northfield in search of edible treats. By the end of the day youwill be able to confidently identify several readily available wild foodsand be eager to get out there on your own adventure. Led by TomBakerof Loaf Cookery School and Bakery.

In Your Own Back Yard

If you have your own garden, you may be interested in joining in with ourestablished Grow Zone group who are already working together totransform their own back gardens in Northfield. The group meets once amonth and takes turns visiting each other’s gardens. The next gardeningday is on Saturday 21 July, at 10.30am (call ahead for venue).

BUPA Birmingham Half Marathon

Following our running success, we are putting together teamto enter the BUPA Birmingham Half Marathon. If you wouldlike to join our team we will support you with training tips,sponsorship ideas & forms and general moral encouragement.We already have a number of people entered, all keen to havefun and raise a bit of money for the Ecocentre.

to everyone took part in the Great Midlands Fun Run in June, toraise hundreds of pounds for the ecocentre. Georgia Stokes,Northfield Ecocentre Manager said;

“The day itself was amazing. Arriving in Sutton Coldfield it felt likea carnival atmosphere; so many people with wonderful costumes.Everyone was in a great mood and the sun was shining. Goinground the course there was a huge amount of encouragementand support from spectators and other runners.”

Successful Family Bike Ride!

At the end of June, local friends and family enjoyed a gentle group cycleride from Northfield to Cannon Hill Park led by a qualified instructor.Helped by a sunny day, the ride was a real success, despite some muddypatches!

Individuals and families of all ages welcome. Theride will be mostly on cycle paths & mainly flat.Riding in a group is great for building confidence ifyou have little cycling experience.
