RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES / EVENTS FOUNTAIN HOLD 3rd ANNUAL RAMADAN LECTURE The 3rd annual Ramadan lecture of Fountain University titled “Islam and Mod-ern Technology: Friends or Foes” was held on 16th July, 2013 at Eti-Osa lecture

theatre in Fountain University. The Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Bashir Raji flanked by his management team members welcomed the audience to the lecture and craved their indul-gence in listening to the lecture which promised to be soul-lifting. The lecture

was delivered by Ustaz Sirajdeen Bakrin who stood in for the guest lecturer Alh. Misbaudeen Orimadegun (Chief Imam, Osun State Polytechnic Iree) who was unavoidably absent. Ustaz Bakrin delivered a thought-provoking lecture. He delved into the history of technology and contributions of Muslims towards what is today known as modern technology. He said that Muslims contributed immensely to it citing the examples such as Algebra. He also said that Islam is not against technology but the use to which it is put like the use of phone which is good for communication but Muslims misuse it by not switching it off when in the mosque. He equally said that transmissions from television sta-tions are now replete with obscene images whereas they are meant to dis-seminate information to the public.
