June Campout - Big Wheel St. Mary’s, Georgia Jim & I (“D”), Dave Carlson and Lucy Poulus would like to begin with sending our heartfelt con- dolences of sympathy to Della and Al of the passing of her son. Know that he is in a much more peace- ful and pain free place. Also, with every gray cloud there is a silver lining. God will take care of him now, as your son will see you again someday. On Thursday, many Getaway Sam chapter members came as Early Birds to the June campout at A Big Wheel RV Park in St. Mary's, GA. Those EBs were Bob & Sheila Garbecki, John & Sue Johnson, Frank & Linda Diegel, Larry & Harriet Haire, Lucy Poulus (co host bunked up at Jim & D’s rig) and Dave Carlson co host. Mary & Dan Arnold, guests of Jim & D, would become new chapter members, with Linda Diegel promising them a fresh home- made Carrot Cake! What a tasty bribe. Other new faces for Jim & D to welcome & visit with at the campout were, Nate & Kate Deaton and Jynifer & John Fortson. We must say, our small chapter is growing by leaps & bounds, with fresh blood every- where. All attendees were given the opportunity to color their favorite Disney character from a color- ing book for the “Color My World” contest. Mem- bers also looked at pieces of a KOA map and tried to figure out “Where Are We”. The Early Birds were eager to partake in the large Taco Bar with plenty of goodies, while desserts had to be laid out in the kitchen. Debbie, our chapter Prez, drove in by car and brought Trudy Clayton to enjoy Tacos, dessert and Card Bingo. Shortly after clean up and folks returning from feeding & walking their pets, 16 players gathered around 4 tables. Jim & Dave called out the cards for Bingo. Losers of Card Bingo entered their names in 2 random $10 prize draw- ings. Harriet & Sue, who were at a table of non- winners, won $10 each! Friday Morn, members were treated to a large breakfast of hot baked biscuits, sausage gravy, fruit, yogurt, pastries, juice and coffee. The RV Park owner, Karen Moody, joined us for a taste of our chapterhospitality, breakfast, and camaraderie. Following kitchen clean up and visiting, a Scavenger Hunt began.Participants were given a Walmart bag with a list of items to be collected & brought back in the shortestamount of time. A short time later, Jerry & Esther Eckhart drove in from the King’s Bay Naval Lodge to visitand play their favorite card game, Hand & Foot, with John & Sue. In the meantime, the Hunt was on asKate, and John & Jynifer Fortson were brave enough to complete this fun game. John & Jynifer turned inthe most collected items to win a large gift basket. Kate proudly took runner up and received a gift bag ofgoodies. Debbie returned in the afternoon, as members were treated to an Ice Cream Social of a variety ofnovelties! Karen Moody took time out to enjoy a frozen treat with us. Robert & Susan Roche arrived latein the afternoon to contribute more food for the Ham potluck. Jim was able to sit down & slice up the ham.Great job! Here again, with so many side dishes to choose from, desserts had to be spread out in the kitch-en. In the early evening hours, our guests & newest chapter members, Mary & Dan and 10 other members, tested their musical skills at “Name That Kazoo Tune”. 2 Teams of 6 each TRIED to hum a tune on a pieceof wax paper & comb! Linda was a team captain as was Mary on the opposing team. We shared a lot oflaughs at how terrible the sounds were made the crowd roar. Dan decided to give it a shot but quickly de-cided to let Mary show off her talents. Each participant of the winning team received an OLD FARTS book-let to give them a chuckle. Later, Mary & Dan got a learning lesson in how to play Joker. Another table ofseasoned Joker players enjoyed themselves and strategizing. D & Lucy went to the kitchen to prepare aSaturday Sunrise Breakfast casserole to be chilled overnight.

Saturday morning, many chapter members made their way back to Jacksonville to pay their re-spects to Della & Al at the funeral services of Della’s son. Those who did not attend and stayed behind hadthe casserole, biscuits and other leftovers from Friday mornings breakfast. D held off on demonstratingher craft project, Sunflowery wreath (made with felt, etc.). There will be another time and another proj-ect. This gave some time to the few at the campground to visit, share stories and just get to know eachother. Jim took advantage of free time to do his Physical Therapy exercises to help loosen up his stiffknees. He’ll be up & running (yeah, yeah) hopefully soon. In the afternoon, everyone brought in lightsnacks to converse over. Debbie returned with board games in hand. Robert & Susan were able to returnand visit with the group. Sharon & Pam Bundy and their friend Dan made a welcomed appearance. Judy &Bob Fishback and Carol Anne & Steve Guitar got to meet Jim & D for the first time since they joined thechapter. What wonderful and friendly people they are, commented Jim & D. DJ brought a friend, John, with him to dinner at The Millhouse Steakhouse in Kingsland. We had a whopping 32 hungry mouths forthe wait staff to feed. Everyone enjoyed many laughs, great conversations, very tasty meals and excellentservice for the large Saturday night gathering. Upon returning to the clubhouse after dinner, winners wereannounced of the “Color my World” contest. Three gift bags were won by Linda Diegel, Lucy Poulus andNate Deaton. John Johnson won a bottle of Avon aftershave lotion, donated by Dave Carlson. Inside alarge, red gift bag, a talking Willie (Duck Dynasty) bank and a “Good Old Days” magazine was won by KateDeaton. Sharon Bundy had NO COMPETITION in the “KOA Where Are We” contest. She did very well andguessed 10 out of 12 sites without using any GPS or electronic device. Great job & congratulations! Shetoo, won a gift bag. Sorry if I made any errors in naming winners.

Sunday Morning, many attended the peaceful devotion given by D. Just like after church, manyshared a little more chatter and well wishes before departing or staying on another day.Jim & I want to thank our cohosts again, Lucy Poulus and Dave Carlson for their assistance. We want toadd that it was a pleasure meeting new faces as well as seeing our old friends of the Getaway Sams.
