Hope you all have had time to go shooting at your range and enjoy it. If it is hot out, there are outlets close to the shooting tables, so bring a fan. Remember to be courteous to your fel-low members by following your safety rules and having a good attitude when talking to other members. The roof material is on site for the hand thrower area and will be started on 6-26-17 in the afternoon. When it is finished, I will start ordering the mate-rials for the archery cover. It sounds like the 3-gun and the 5-stand shooters are having an extremely fun filled time. Try to make time to come shoot, you're not getting any younger. A big thank you goes out to all those that put in so much time to help make their club one of the best and more recently with more diversified shooting opportunities. There is lots of work to be done for those that want the dis-count for next years dues, so notify Bill and go work, or not and pay. I had mentioned before that we are in the discussion stage of the pistol and short rifle range due to a combination of safety issues, one of the most important is that the target is being moved away from the backstop and shot at from sitting, stand-ing, or laying down positions. This allows the bullet to be im-pacting on the upper third of the berm, with a ricochet going over. To solve this problem for pistol is the discussion of hav-ing three separate pistol ranges, 7 yards, 14 yards, 25 yards, and the targets will not move away from the backstop. For the short rifle range, make 1/3rd of it a 50 yard, leave the 75 yard, and all targets will stay at the backstop. When I say stay at the

backstop, this means there will no longer be "any " moveable target holders accessible to shooters except under supervision during a match, pistol and rifle.

Now, think about this and lets discuss it, we can meet at the range to look at it and discuss.

Again, a big at-a-boy to all of those that make TCGC a great club!

VICE-PRESIDENTS CORNER You missed a great time at the Family Picnic if you did not attend. Lots of people enjoyed swapping goods. There were several 5 stand shooters! And my husband Joey and I and others helped a some young people shoot 22.

And yes Ken, I took Bo's picture on the pistol Range, but I promise he was not shooting the stag arms on that range.

As I write this article, I have my Glock 9mm, Palmet-to AR 7.62 and Browning Auto-lite 12 packed for my first try at three gun. I know I will not beat the younger, better eyesight, quicker competitors, but

sure fun to get out and shoot! Hope to see you at the range! Oh, be sure to shoot a round or two of 5-stand!

------------- Reminder about our Youth Shooting Sports! All youth age 10-18 are invited. No Charge, Everything provided. July 13 and July 27th. 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Currently, 22 LR, Shotgun and Archery!

tri-city clay breakers

WHAT IS 5-STAND? Five Stand is a type of shotgun sport similar to sporting clays, trap and skeet. There are five stations, or stands and six to eighteen strategically placed clay target throwers (called traps). Shooters shoot in turn at various combinations of clay birds. Each station will have a menu card that lets the shooter know the sequence of clay birds he or she will be shooting at (i.e. which trap the clay bird will be coming from). The shooter is presented with 5 targets at each station, first a single bird followed by two pairs. Pairs can be either "report pairs," in which the second bird will be launched after the shooter fires at the first; or "true pairs" when both birds launch at the same time. After shooting at the 5 birds on the menu at that station, the shooter proceeds to the next stand, where they find a new menu of 5 targets.

Typical five stand targets are a rabbit, chandelle, overhead, standard skeet high house and low house shots, teal (launched straight up into the air), trap (straight ahead from ground level), and an incoming bird.

We will have this event at least twice a month for the members to enjoy. If you know of anyone that wants to have a 5-Stand event for their business, church, family get together, just let me know and we could set up a super fun shoot for them. Remember, this is in the fund raising stage. With enough par-

ticipation and donations we hope to be able to put together a permanent course here at TCGC. We are of to a great start, but still have a ways to go.

A big thanks to those of you who come out early and assist Mark and I set up the course. We truly appreciate the help in setup and tear down.

HAND THROWER AREA As you may have read in the President’s Corner, we will re-sume construction on the cover starting June 26th. By the time you get this newsletter, it should be looking good!

Please check the calendar often for updates on event times, special events, and work day changes. If you want to be included in the Shot-gun Sports and 5-Stand text alerts, please send me a text with your name. I will try to keep every-one in the loop.

Safety Corner July 2017 – Hangfire Greetings Tri City Gun Club Members

When the Red Light is On the Range is Cold: I want to thank members for continuing to embrace the use of the Red Range Safety Lights. Just remember, if you are the only one on the range please be sure and use the lights when you go down range and the Range is Cold.

Pistol and Short Rifle Range Berm Improvements: We continue to look at the Backstops \ Berms on the Pistol and Short Rifle Ranges.

TCGC Picnic and Swap Meet: The Picnic and Swap Meet was a good time, the Five Stand Shotgun Shooting was a hoot. I want to thank Sam for telling me “Up, Up, Up” to find my last bird, allowing me to end my session with a dead bird.

Heat Injuries: Heat injuries are preventable and prevention begins at home. You should be well hydrated when you come to the range. Remember to bring water and sunscreen with you to the range. The Stat House is air conditioned and has fresh water in the cooler. If you want to bring a small box fan to the range, we now have power on the firing line with the Red Safety Lights. Please bring a step ladder to allow you to safely plug your fan in. When I was in the Army we would recommend \ consume at least one quart of water per hour to remain properly hydrated in the summer months.

Lost and Found: We still have two ammunition cans with ammunition that was left on the Short Rifle Range in late May. If you think it is yours, call me or Bill and be prepared to

identify it. This is the last time I will post it in the Hangfire.

Shout Out: To Del Presley, Mark Erickson, Tara Nelson, Steven Rudnick and Bill Hutcheson for supporting Jennifer Trimmer’s Birthday Party on the Range in June. A good time was had by all and I appreciate you.

Insurance Renewals: We are in the process of updating and renewing the clubs Liability and Property Insurance Poli-cies. If you have questions about our insurance policies, please contact Eric Bauman, Member at Large, and we will work to get you the answers.

Opportunities to Serve:

Match RSOs – Every month we have several matches such as Military Bolt Action, Bullseye Pistol, 22 Rifle match etc. that need RSOs. I would encourage all new RSOs to find time to work these matches, it is excellent experience. If you are interested, look at the calendar for the match date or give me a call. Supporting these matches will count as work hours for 2017.

Boy Scout Camp and Shoot 10/07/17: All hands on deck, we will need RSOs, Rifle, Shotgun, Black Powder, and Ar-chery instructors as well as members to support Bill in the range set up. Please mark your calendar and plan to support this event. It will count for 2017 Work Hours.

Many thanks and kudos to Ken Anderson, Del Presley, Mark Erickson, Tara Nelson, Stephen Rudnick, & Bill Hutcheson for helping make the Trimmer Family June 11 Birthday Party Bash the best birthday celebration EVER!!! The pavilion provided a perfect cookout setup and the 5 of you added a special touch by helping us host our guests on the ranges for some secure shooting fun! Thanks for being part of our cele-bration and you are all now officially a part of our families of friends…whether you want to be or not! Many blessings to your shooting accuracies.

3-Gun NewsWe were blessed with cool weather for our June 17th, 3-Gun Match, with temperatures somewhere in the low to mid-70's and a nice breeze. Turnout was a bit light with 10 shooters due to Father's Day and an initial forecast of possible thunderstorms, so instead of setting up three bays, we used Bay #2 and made it pretty target intensive.

Thanks to my wife Jill, who collected money, and Jamie Schmidt, for setting up PractiScore so I could be free to help set up the course, and to the usual gang of helpers and suspects.

Funding - I used personal funds to start up 3-Gun so it will be another month or so before the 3-Gun Account shows deposits as I'm having to recoup my money first. The offer was made to have TCGC reimburse me, but I preferred it this way. We are, however, paying TCGC the $2.00 per shooter fee.

I'm frequently asked what firearms are needed to participate in 3-Gun as well as how much ammo to bring. Since this is a TCGC sponsored match, we shoot an Open Division so all members can participate, with the emphasis on safety first, then fun. These are basic suggestions...once you show up and compete, peo-ple far smarter than myself will enlighten you further.

Rifle Chamberings - 5.56 is the most popular. Since we're shooting paper only with rifle, ricochets from steel targets are not a concern. You may also shoot a pistol caliber carbine (PCC) such as 9mm, 40 cal, 45 ACP. If we ever have a PCC Only match, PCC's can shoot steel. 5.56/223 is the minimal rifle cartridge permitted. 9mm Luger is the minimal PCC permitted. When we set up a course of fire for rifle we tend to require about 30 rounds per bay, so be aware of this when deciding how many mags and how much ammo to bring. With three courses, you're looking at a minimum of 100 rounds of rifle.

Shotguns – 12-gauge is preferable as we're shooting at steel targets, but 20-gauge is permitted as well. We tend to have about 10 targets to knock down. With a typical shotgun, you're going to have to per-form a reload, so at some point you may want to invest in a tube ex-tension. Both semi-auto and pump are popular, with a semi-auto natu-rally going to run faster due to less recoil and faster sight acquisition.

12 and 20 gauge only Steel/tungsten shot or slugs are not permitted. 1. Slugs must be 1 1/2 oz and smaller. (People tend to not keep

slugs around the house, so if a match calls for them we'll giveprior notice.)

2. Buckshot is 00, 000, or #4.3. Birdshot can be lead #5 or smaller and I'd venture a guess that 7

1/2 is most widely used.4. The use of #5 is permitted because of the location of 3-Gun!

5. YOU CANNOT USE LARGER THAN #7 1/2 ON THE TRAP ANDSKEET RANGES!

Typically, you're fine with a box of shotgun shells, but bring a couple to play it safe.

Pistol - Semi-auto or revolver are permitted, but as a rule the speed and capacity of a semi-auto is an advantage. It's not unusual to fire a few dozen pistol rounds in one course of fire so it's a good idea to have the appropriate number of mags or speed loaders. 9mm Luger is the minimal pistol caliber permitted. Our steel targets are set up in such a way that 9mm or .38 Special will knock it down...usually. No steel core, no STEEL jacketed (not to be confused with copper plated or copper jacketed), no armor piercing pistol ammo allowed since we're using it on steel. Doesn't hurt to bring 150 rounds of pistol.

"You can't be too good looking, too rich, or have too much ammo." You may use open sights or optics on all three firearms.

Holsters - only thigh rigs and hip holsters. No cross drawing. Holster must cover trigger. Mag holsters are helpful and need not be expensive, but you can use your pockets if you want.

TCGC Practical Pistol and 3-Gun are laid back, so don't feel like you need to show up with a race gun and top of the line holsters. Empty chamber indicators in rifles and shotguns at all times until it's your turn to shoot and instructions are given by RO to load. Pistol in hol-sters unloaded and mag out until your time to shoot and instructed to load.

1. No ammo permitted at the three safety tables.2. Remember the 180-rule.3. Bring something to drink.4. A folding chair if needed, but please get up out of it to help reset

targets.

You're really competing against yourself and improving your shooting skills and it goes a long way to building your self-confidence. First time of two you shoot you'll be a bit nervous, but everyone is there to help. You'll probably make mistakes at first. We'll be laughing with you, and once you're a regular, we'll be laugh-ing at you. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Eric Bauman [email protected]

Member at Large I hope that our members had a safe and happy July 4th holiday and gave pause at some point to give thanks that we live in the country we do.

Not much news my way this month that hasn't already been covered. At this time, we're giving much thought to the safest way to shoot steel on the pistol range. The steel targets on the south end aren't much of a problem, but we are looking for a workaround for the north end steel. We'd like to continue having the ability to have resettable targets, but with less ricochets.

It has been nice these last couple of 3rd Sundays to see so many shotgunners participating in the 5-Stand on the west side of the range, and the east side of the range so busy with 3-Gun.

Hope to see you all at the range! Eric Bauman, Member at Large

MAINTENANCE CORNER Five club members worked June work day on 6/17. Great job, Thank you!! We need more help on work days!! Any Club member can work. It does not have to be on work days. Just call or email me. We have all types of work. Renewal sessions start in September. Get your hours in and save money!!

The scheduled work day for July is July 22,2017 from 0700 to 1100 hrs. Scheduled work for that date will include; fence work, finish maintenance building, clean up, empty trash, weed-eat, secure new trash cans, and anything else I can think of.

New trash cans have been installed. Each can will be lined with liners for ease of emptying once a week. With the trash being bagged, this will reduce the amount of trash from be blown all over the range. IF YOU HAVE ANY LARGE ITEMS OR CARD-BOARD, PLEASE BREAK IT DOWN OR TAKE STRAIGHT TO DUMPSTER.

I am finding plastic bottles, cans, being left on the pistol range. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to remove any items from the range before you leave.

I will try to keep two target stands on the 200-yard berm. Please do not take them down from there. Please do not take the small 2 x 4 target stands to the 200-yard range.

If any member has a problem with the gate, please, call and tell me. My phone number is (405) 664-1128. If I do not answer, please leave a message.

Still fertilizing. Please watch for Range closings.

Just a few reminders; Please observe the speed limit on the road. The 10 MPH begins coming in and ends at the cattle guard go-ing out. Please observe the 10 MPH speed limit. Remove paper targets from the target stands and put trash in barrels. Pick up your brass and put in recycle barrels. All others go in trash.

THIS IS YOUR RANGE, PLEASE DO YOUR PART. Bill R. Hutcheson, (405) 664-1128, [email protected]

July 2017 Number Cruncher Article The membership software committee has picked the new software. The club membership records are being cleansed to ensure that the records can be uploaded as clean as possible. The secretary, vp, and webmaster plan to be ready for testing mid-July. I am looking forward to being able to see payments in real time. With this new system, we should eliminate double payments. If you pay cash, check, or credit card at the meetings or renewals it will be on your account in a few minutes and you will be able to track your payments. It will keep three years of records so if you need to review a payment it will be on your account. With this new system, we will have a lot better control on work hours, payments, or donations and I will be able to invoice vendors for ads in the Hangfire. I am so looking forward to having a better system in place of excel or other forms that I currently use. Please note the webmaster, or an officer will be avail-able to help any member who does not have a computer or access to an email account. We would encourage every member to have at least an email account that they check or have someone check for them. With this new system, all records are kept in digital form.

I know we have improved the renewal system for members but the back side where I have been working to keep the records straight has been a nightmare. I am so ready to start testing and getting things in place to save me many hours of work. I know it will be different but to keep clean records and allow members to have more control we must do this.

Our elections are just 6 months away and our nominating committee is working hard to fill the open positions. I let everyone know that I will not be seeking a 5th term as treasurer. So please let them know if you would like to fill the treasurer position. In even years, we vote on 4 officers, President, Member-at-Large, CRSO, and Treasurer. We will have on-line voting in place this year so we hope that everyone takes advantage of this new system. At the Janu-ary meeting the elected officers will assume their duties.

Remember, the new dead line to renew membership for 2018 is October 31, 2017. We have dates planned now so watch the Hangfire or ask an officer. The board voted to increase the membership fee for 2018. Please check the Hangfire or ask an officer about pricing. If there are any openings for 2018 the web site will be opened on November 15, 2017.

Our spending is in the normal range and we are on track with the budget in most areas. If you have questions on any account please drop me an email, or call. I still work full time so be aware of that but most of the time I can ac-cept calls or leave a voice message and I will return your call.

May Your Debits & Credits Always Match

Most of the competitors, including the overall Match Winner, used the Crosman Challenger Pre-Charged Pneumatic Air Rifle; other air rifles used included the Daisy/Avanti 887 CO2 Air Rifle, and the Air Arms Compressed Air T200 Air Rifle.

CSMA club members served as Match Director, Chief Statisti-cal Officer, Chief Range Officer, and Line Safety Officers. The Murray County 4H Booster Club provided snacks and refresh-ments.

Future plans call for both NRA and Civilian Marksmanship Pro-gram Junior Air Rifle Matches, depending on the amount of interest and feedback that is provided to the Competition Shooters of Mid- America. Also, there is a likelihood that the CSMA facilities will be utilized to conduct Summer Camps for the Shooting Sports and specialized training sessions through-out the year.

to Amazon on July 4th. We will begin importing data when that is done. Once we begin us-ing the new data management site, we will effectively paperless.

4. The club needs a master project list.5. The badge printer was discussed. We may want to look at a new software package, or a

device without proprietary software. The current printer is out of warranty, but is still work-ing. Supplies for the next set of renewals will be purchased. We will not be purchasing lan-yards for current members.

6. Range grants were discussed. We will request a grant to improve handicapped access tothe restrooms. This will include a parking area and improvements to the ramp.

set for each.9. All of the matches are now following current club financial policy.10.Online voting was discussed. It works well. Reporting was good. It was verified that there is

no way to see how people voted, only that they did vote.11.The nominating committee was given contact info for voting members. Nomination and vot-

ing timeframes have not changed. The nominating committee is seeking a new member.12.A patch of broken concrete will be cut out and repaired.13.Bill needs a new printer. This is an office supply expense. A motion was made to buy two

AIMING HIGH FOR SPORTING CLAYS AT TCGC!!!

The Shotgun Community here at TCGC has expressed their need and desire for a 5 Stand/Sporting Clays Course. So, with the help and mega support of our most amazing President Mark Ericksen and a couple of the regular Shotty’s, we have been able to put together a small 5-Stand setup on Skeet Field 2. Mark has graciously donated his time and the use of his per-sonal throwers to be used for this cause. A couple of us havevolunteered the time to set-up, operate, and maintain thecourse on scheduled 5-Stand Events. Here are a few things toexpect real soon…• Minimum of 2 days per month. Dates and times TBA. See

calendar or contact [email protected]• This will be a 6-machine setup to start with.• We welcome the use of other member throwers. The more

targets flying, the better. Some clubs have 9 or morethrowers. Keeps it interesting.

• This is a staffed event. Only authorized persons can setup/operate the event.

• Skeet/Trap cards cannot be used. Separate cards for 5-Stand will be available for purchase at events.

• This is a fund-raising event. This is not a sanctioned eventnor is it open to the public. However, don’t hesitate to bringa guest or family member to play. Same guest rules apply.

• You do not have to be a “Key Holder” to participate. It willbe staffed and available to all members.

Fees for 5-Stand

The proceeds will be deposited in a savings account for the purchase of throwers and needed items to have a club owned 5-Stand or Sporting Clays course.

WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING….. 7 ½ or 8 Shot. NO HUNTING LOADS. Range Rules apply!! This will be monitored.

Bring Cash or Checks. We do not usually have change and we don’t take credit. No IOU’s!! This will be monitored.

Score Keeper Not Provided. If you need to keep score or regis-ter targets, bring a score keeper or ask around the shoot. If enough volunteers show we will oblige.
