Oh July… all winter long we dream and wait in anticipation for your arrival and the fun that you bring along with you. Backyard cookouts, fireworks and flags, family time on the lake, and the list goes on…Post Falls Festival is scheduled for July 13-15, with the parade scheduled for Saturday, July 14th at 10am. Nothing says community

celebration like a good old fashioned parade. Anyone interested in participating can download a parade application on the Post Falls Chamber website. RCLA Alumni… we need you! we are looking for our alumni to assist with crowd control at the Post Falls Festival Parade, and then join us for our 1st Annual Alumni BBQ to follow.July 17th is our monthly Connect 4 Lunch meeting, and it’s all about community collaboration. We are honored to have our Post Falls Police Chief, Pat Knight and Fire & Rescue Division Chief, Steve Isaacson as our keynote speakers. We also have a very special presentation from the Idaho Hall of Fame – they will be inducting the Boys & Girls Club of Kootenai County. We are currently conducting interviews for the class of 2019 for our River City Leadership Academy (RCLA), what a stellar group of applicants. This next year they will learn about our community through a series of discovery days that include: history, economic development, health care and education day just to name a few. RCLA was established in 2009, and has seen over 200 community leaders complete the leadership program. We are in the third year of the Super Scholarship Raffle program, and look forward to drawing the winning raffle ticket for the $25,000 college scholarship at our member appreciation party on September 27th. Tickets are still available, and can be purchased at the Chamber office or ordered on our website. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold, the odds are ever in your favor. Cheers,Jame’ Davis

The Post Falls Police Department would like to wish everyone a safe and sane 4th of July week for 2018. As the holiday week rapidly approaches, we want to take this time to remind everyone about the potential hazards surrounding fireworks and their use. In Post Falls and the surrounding area, there are many different brands of fireworks. There are also a multitude of locations within Kootenai County where fireworks can be purchased. The only fireworks legal to possess or use within the City of Post Falls are those marked Safe and Sane. Post Falls is very specific in the types of fireworks that are unlawful to possess or use. Those that are unlawful are

firecrackers, cannon crackers, giant crackers, salutes, silver tube salutes, cherry bombs, mines, ground bombardment, grasshoppers and other explosive articles of similar nature. Other items or fireworks that are unlawful are skyrockets and rockets, including all similar devices containing any combustible or explosive material and which rise in the air during discharge; roman candles, including all devices which discharge balls of fire into the air; chasers and whistles, including all devices which dart and travel about the surface of the ground during discharge. This also includes snakes and hats containing bichloride of mercury, sparklers more than ten inches (10") in length or

one-quarter inch (1/4") in diameter or made with other than iron wires; all articles for pyrotechnic display such as aerial shells, salutes, flash shells, sky battles, parachute shells, mines, dago bombs and similar devices; all torpedoes which explode by means of friction, or which contain arsenic; and all other similar fireworks devices including cracker balls. Fire balloons or balloons of any type which have burning material of any kind attached thereto are also unlawful to possess.

All of these unlawful items are listed for your convenience as we encourage everyone to make the proper choice in the items they choose to purchase and/or use. We also want to take the opportunity to inform you that all fireworks are only lawful when they are used on your private property. It is unlawful for anyone to ignite any fireworks of any kind on public areas such as parks, playgrounds trails, public rights of way and streets, curbs and sidewalks, parking lots, alleys and the grounds of all public buildings and schools. Remember that all retail lots such as shopping centers or stores are public places and fireworks are prohibited on their property as well. This year we've had a long spring and the moisture we received has caused an over abundance of weeds and grass. In

some areas the tall grasses and weeds are beginning to dry out. They may look green on top, however underneath there are dry areas that will burn very rapidly. This is another reason for making sure you have the proper fireworks and using them in the proper areas. Should you decide to dig fire pits in your yards, make sure those as well as your barbeques are far enough away from the houses and there are no opportunities for the heat or fire to cause any damage to the structure. If you are using fireworks around children, please make sure you secure all matches and lighters when you complete your celebration. Should you need to contact any of the law enforcement agencies in your respective areas, we have listed the following

telephone numbers for your convenience. Post Falls Police (208) 773-3517Coeur d'Alene Police (208) 769-2320Kootenai County Sheriff (208) 446-1300Idaho State Police (208) 209-8620Spokane County Sheriff (509) 456-2233 Should you need to contact our local fire department, Kootenai County Fire & Rescue can be contacted at (208) 777-8500.

Each year, the Chamber advocates on behalf of membership to advance legislation that will drive business in the region. The 2018 legislative session was no exception — our agenda focused

on solutions for our most pressing tax concerns and long-term planning for the future of Idaho education. The result? More money to invest in your business, employees, or community.

Our session’s biggest win will save Idaho employers $115 million over the next

three years, an estimated $41 million in 2018 alone. What could your business do with

these savings?

*Actual savings will vary depending on your existing rate class and industry.

Idaho’s corporate income tax rate is an important

factor in determining how we fare against other states

in the region. Getting our rate under 7% bolsters our
