MANAGER MUSINGS by Lee Morris Florida and Tri-Par are slowly re-opening their facilities and businesses. As of this writing, Tri-Par has all of its facilities open, although some are open in a more limited manner. We hosted our first “Post Covid-19” picnic on Memorial Day and it certainly was a learning experience! However, it all went well, and we are encouraged that we will be able to continue with Saturday Coffee’s, and even some club dinners. The Board of Trustees are once again meeting in person in the clubhouse. They welcome you to attend the meetings in person now. Residents who are away from Tri-Par in the off-season will be able to dial in via ZOOM to Board Meetings and Workshops to listen in on the latest community matters. If you have something you would like to say, send it in an email to me. I will make sure it gets answered. There are new Violation Notices that are in use. They look very similar to the “Do Not Disturb” door hangers in a hotel. They will have the information checked and a timeframe in which the homeowner has to comply with request. Regardless, they need to be taken seriously as they are considered the same as getting a letter in the mail. Please make sure your grass is cut and your property is maintained even in the off-season. There is another article in this newsletter with a picture of the Violation Notice. In the meantime, Tri-Par continues to work while our facilities were closed. We hired a Pool Engineering firm to draw specifications and blueprints for our pool refurbishment. We have settled on building a 20 x 36 Tiki Hut for shade by the pool. The Stage Wall in the clubhouse was redone into a feature wall and the whole inside was repainted. New Sound Equipment, Camera Equipment to broadcast our Meetings and we have even done some special events like Flag Day that was broadcast to the residents. The outside pool wall was redone with new bulletin boards and paint. The Public Computer in the Library is up and running. UPDATING CLUBS & EVENTS by Carol Bryant

Our facilities are back open with new hours to accommodate extra cleaning in each building. We are working on updating our calendars for weekly activities and other events, along with our

club leadership list. If the Weekly Event Schedule or the Club Leadership List included in the Newsletter needs to be changed, I can make the updates. It would be great if you could confirm if your event is “yearly” or “seasonal”.

If you need to schedule an event, we have forms in the office for you to complete. We will work together to accommodate events and ensure that rooms are not overbooked. If you have changes, questions or concerns, please call me at 941-355-8747 or email me at [email protected]. I enjoy working with all of you to keep our very busy club calendar up to date.

I appreciate your support. Thank you,

Carol

INSPIRATIONAL WORDS

Hope is Important! During the Covid19 stay at home, social distancing, and the wearing of masks, many people found themselves concerned about

what their future might be like. Then along came the death of George Floyd along with the protests, marches, burning, stealing, and violence. All of this has caused some people to feel that there is little hope for a bright future and a return to normal. This hopeless feeling that I sensed in people caused me to do thinking and research about the importance of hope. I would like to share an old story that was found in Bits and Pieces, July 1991.

The Dying Boy

The school system in a large city had a program to help children keep up with their schoolwork during stays in the city's hospitals. One day a teacher who was assigned to the program received a routine call asking her to visit a particular child. She took the child's name and room number and talked briefly with the child's regular class teacher. "We're studying nouns and adverbs in his class now," the regular teacher said, "and I'd be grateful if you could help him understand them so he doesn't fall too far behind."

The hospital program teacher went to see the boy that afternoon. No one had mentioned to her that the boy had been badly burned and was in great pain. Upset at the sight of the boy, she stammered as she told him, "I've been sent by your school to help you with nouns and adverbs." When she left she felt she hadn't accomplished much. But the next day, a nurse asked her, "What did you do to that boy?" The teacher felt she must have done something wrong and began to apologize. "No, no," said the nurse. "You don't know what I mean. We've been worried about that little boy, but ever since yesterday, his whole attitude has changed. He's fighting back, responding to treatment. It's as though he's decided to live."

Two weeks later the boy explained that he had completely given up hope until the teacher arrived. Everything changed when he came to a simple realization. He expressed it this way: "They wouldn't send a teacher to work on nouns and adverbs with a dying boy, would they?"

The teacher went to help with nouns and adverbs; however, she gave him something more, “Hope!” Just like the little boy, God sent His Son into the world to give us “Hope!” John 3:16-17 says it so well:

“16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

Yes, like the little boy, God sent His Son to give us hope about our future. If you feel discouraged about things that are happening around you, read again, John 3:16-17. God would not have sent His Son into a world where people had no hope about their future. John 3:16-17 provides us with great hope. Hope is important for each of us!

EVANGELICAL COVENANT CHURCH OF TRI-PAR

REOPENING Even though we have not been meeting for Worship on Sundays in the Clubhouse…we are still present in the Park. One way we have been present is by broadcasting our weekly Worship on the Park Channel 195 on Sundays, 11 a.m. If you have watched, we pray that God has encouraged you. If you have not tuned in on Sundays, we warmly welcome you.

Now that many venues are reopening in our community, we want to watch the trends for “new coronavirus” cases. If there is no significant spike in the next two weeks, we plan to reopen for worship on Sunday, June 28, at 11 am. As always, we welcome you if you are not attending a church. We have approved a set of guidelines for reopening. We believe these will keep everyone safe and healthy. If you would like a copy of the guidelines, please contact me at [email protected] or 508-245-2037. I will be very pleased to see that you receive a copy to you. If you would like a copy of the guidelines, please contact me at [email protected] or 508-245-2037. I will be very pleased to see that you receive a copy to you. WALK AWAY THE POUNDS by Debbie Yates

Walk Away the Pounds Exercise Program

Monday-Friday 8:30am

I hope everyone has been doing some kind of activity during the quarantine. If you are like me, you may have gained a few pounds during this inactive quarantine time. It will be great to get together and be motivated to get back in shape. We will meet at 8:30 - 9:00 AM Monday through Friday at the Clubhouse. This is an excellent way to exercise indoors and avoid the summer heat. Walk Away the Pounds is an exercise video program produced by Leslie Sansone. Come join your neighbors and get back in shape.

If you are worried about being in a group, we will honor social distance practices and still be able exercise since the Clubhouse is so large. Contact Debbie Yates with any questions at 941 932 2743. I look forward to seeing everyone again.

BEND & STRETCH POOL EXERCISE by Lois Wegner

MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR by Vicki Cooper

MEET PAT HERREN

In Pat Herren's home at 5330 Rancho Ave there are hanging quilts, blue ribbons, decorated tumblers as well as other artwork that takes your breath away. I think Pat has always

had a streak of artistry even though her background does not give claim to that. What she started out in was cosmetology. Pat grew up in Lima, Ohio, but knew she wanted to be a cosmetologist since she was 15 years old. Even before graduating from high school she began her schooling in cosmetology. She just knew she wanted to do hair. Eventually she moved up in the trade to manage a salon in Ohio. At one point in Pat's life she had to give up the salon and move to Atlanta, Georgia. There she worked with special need children, in the classroom as well as driving bus. She became a foster mother for special children for 16 years. In 1984 she moved to Bradenton and leased a beauty salon after seeing it advertised in a newspaper. Eventually she leased a salon in Sarasota and turned over the Bradenton salon to one of her hairdressers. Pat retired in 2011. Meanwhile in 2002, Pat met Al Herren at a restaurant where she was sitting by herself and Al asked if he could sit with her. The chance meeting turned into true love. Pat married and moved into Al's home on Rancho. Low and behold, Al Herren was good friends with Dona Veenstra and that is how Al found Tri-Par. In fact, Al and Dona were friendly card players and had known each other for many years. Between the two of them Pat has two daughters, one stepdaughter, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one step granddaughter. Pat's mother and grandmother always quilted and were an inspiration. She remembers always being a sewer. Pat has perfected her skills and crafts to include outstanding quilts. Her home has one room dedicated to her crafts, with sewing machines, quilting machines, and surging machines. She manages the Tri-Par Quilt Club and the Swedish Weaving Club. The Tri-Par Quilt Club has donated over 150 quilts to persons in Tri-Par. She has always liked crafts, knitting, crocheting, painting, and it shows in her outstanding master pieces. You will also see her volunteer to help at the Flea Market. Pat's favorite movie is Bridges of Madison County and her favorite book is Angel Unaware by Dale Evans, a book about Dale and Roy's special needs daughter. Having been on 21 cruises, Pat likes to point out that she has also

been to Las Vegas and Yellowstone National Park. There are probably quilts in her home representing so many aspects of her life, and so many of the quilts that Pat has made she has given away.

NEW VIOLATION NOTICES by Lee Morris

These are new Violation Notices that are now in use. If you have any questions on the nature of the violations or why it was written, please contact the office. Most violations have 3 days (72 Hours) to comply before additional action is taken.

Recycling

We are all aware of the need to cut down on our trash and the impact it has on our environment. Some activities you can undertake to reduce the impact of the waste you produce:

• Waste Prevention: Avoid buying more than you need. Print only documents and emails that must be legally stored in paper form.

• Waste Reduction: Avoid products with excessive packaging. Buy loose vegetables instead off pre-packed goods.

• Reuse: Repurpose plastic bags. Find creative ways to transform used containers into home storage bins.

• Recycle: We are all recycling in our homes, but sometimes find we are attending or running meetings or social events where the building does not have recycling facilities. (Such as our Tri-Par Clubhouse) Club leaders can arrange to have cardboard items, pop cans and steel cans taken home so that these articles can be recycled.

Dogs and Cats Sarasota County Ordinance Chapter 14 contains the regulations concerning pets and other animals. These regulations contribute to the well-being of the pets in our community and, therefore, to the well-being of us all.

• Each year you must obtain a license certificate and tag for your dog or cat. In order to receive the license, your pet must be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian. The official county license may be attached to a collar or harness and must be worn by the dog or cat at all times.

• Your dog or cat may not run at large on any public property or the property of another and must be under the direct control of a responsible person. Direct control always means immediate and continuous physical control of an animal (dog or cat) by means of a fence, leash, cord or chain of sufficient strength to restrain the animal.

• Under no circumstances shall a person improperly tether any animal. It is unlawful to tether an animal outdoors, except when all 10 conditions (listed in Sarasota County Code of Ordinances, Section 14-35) are met. The most important condition is, “The Animal is in visual range of the Owner, and the Owner is located outside with the Animal.”

• There have been instances when individuals are frightened by the behavior of our animals. If this occurs to you or you observe anything listed above, please report the incident to Animal Services at 861-9500.

Board Approval Is Required Before Moving into Tri-Par If a renter, buyer, or caregiver moves in without the Board’s prior approval, the first action will be to start the process to assess a fine against the owner in accordance with Section 22 of our deed restrictions. Secondly, unapproved renters or owners will be required to vacate the property and leave the park. If they refuse and it becomes necessary for legal action to remove the unapproved occupant(s), the Board of Trustees shall be entitled to recover all costs, including, but not limited to, reasonable attorneys’ fees (Section 21 of Deed Restrictions) from the property owner.

Use of Tri-Par Common Facilities All visitors under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or adult when using Tri-Par Facilities. No one under 18 is permitted in the Spa or in the Exercise Room. Most of us noticed more guests this year than ever before. It is important that we ensure that our guests are made aware of the rules of the Park.

Speed Limit in Tri-Par The speed limit throughout our Park is 20 MPH. We have many walkers, bikers, and people on their golf carts every day. For the safety of all our residents, please do your part in observing the speed limit. When you have guests, let them know we would very much appreciate their maintaining the 20 MPH speed limit within the Park.
