The U.S. bishops urge our participation each Fri-

day in a nationwide Novena for the Legal Protec-

tion of Human Life, August 3–September 28. Par-

ticipants will receive weekly email or text remind-

ers to pray and fast, along with little-known facts about Roe v.

Wade to share with others. Sign up at www.usccb.org/pray!

NOVENA FOR THE LEGAL PROTECTION OF HUMAN LIFE:

AUGUST 3, 2018

PRAY

May a change in the U.S. Supreme Court move our nation closer to the day when every human being is protected in law

and welcomed in life.

Our Father..., Hail Mary..., Glory Be...

FAST

Offer a sacrifice for the intention.

LEARN

Roe and Doe legalized abortion through all nine months of

pregnancy.

Many people don't realize that Roe v. Wade legalized abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. Roe says abortions may

not be restricted at all during the first three months and in the sec-ond three months may be regulated only for the mother's health.1

After "viability"2 Roe allows abortion to be prohibited but must make an exception for the woman's life or health.3

But in Roe's companion case, Doe v. Bolton, the Court defined "health" to include "all factors—physical, emotional, psychological, familial, and the woman's age—relevant to the well-being" of the mother.4 In most states, that is broad enough to permit virtually

any abortion in the seventh, eighth, or ninth months of pregnancy5 if any of these reasons is invoked.6

We, the family of Dorothy Hebert, would like to express our sincere gratitude to Fr. Jude, Deacon Robbie, St. Joseph French Choir, St. Martha’s Guild, Camelot Brookside and Lamm Hospice Care for all you did for her and us during her illness and in her passing. Your kindness and prayers will be remembered. The Dorothy Hebert Family

It’s time to get registered for CCD classes! Forms are available in the foyers of both churches and in the church office. You can also print your own from the church website…stjosephiota.org. ALL students, both new and returning, must be registered by Aug. 27th. Fees are listed on the bottom of the form. Students new to our program (such as a Kinder-

garten student or a student joining us from another parish) must provide a copy of their baptism certificate, (with no-tations for grades 3 or older). Completed forms can be dropped off at the church office, returned by mail or placed in the collection at the weekend Masses. Update: St. Joseph now needs teachers for 3rd, 6th & 7th. St. Michael now needs a teacher for 3rd, 6th, and 7th . Call the office @ 779-2627 to volunteer.

Come and Celebrate the Centennial of the Diocese of Lafayette!

Fȇte-Dieu du Vermilion,

Eucharistic Boat Proces-

sion up the Vermilion

River, will take place on

the Feast of the Assump-

tion, Wednesday, August 15, 2018. All are invited to a Mass

in French at 8 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in

Abbeville to begin the day. Bishop Glen Provost of the Dio-

cese of Lake Charles will preside and give the homily. At the

end of Mass there will be a procession from Church with the

Blessed Sacrament and a statue of Mary across the draw

bridge to Riverfront Restaurant (503 W. Port St.).

At 10 a.m., 121 boats will embark in procession (one for each

parish of the Diocese) and make their way up Bayou Vermil-

ion to Lafayette. The boat procession will stop in Milton at

Wawee’s at 11:35 a.m. for recitation of the rosary and Bene-

diction of the Blessed Sacrament. The flotilla will re-

commence at 12:35 p.m. and continue upstream, arriving at

Ruffino’s in River Ranch at 1:40 p.m. for Rosary and Bene-

diction. The boat procession will embark once again at 2:40

p.m. and arrive at Beaver Park at about 3:20 p.m..

The Bishop would like a boat from each church parish in the

Diocese. If you would like to join in the procession, please let

Fr. Jude know so that your boat can be registered. Registra-

tion can be done online.
