Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

One of the most well known and beloved passages in

scripture is the gentle invitation of our Lord in today’s

Gospel reading: “Come to me, all you who labor and are

burdened, and I will give you rest.” When we need physi-

cal rest, we sleep or take a nap. When we need emotional

rest, we take a break, go for a walk, or when the oppor-

tunity presents itself, take a few days off. But how do we

find spiritual rest? How do we discover Christ’s peace as

we grapple with this time of uncertainty and its complex

issues deep in our hearts? Good stewards find their rest

in the Lord. Reflect this week on what you do to welcome

the peace of Christ into your heart.

INFORMATION/RESOURCES

Now is the Time to Serve Our Community! Jesuit Volunteer EnCorps, a program of JVC Northwest, facilitates rewarding opportunities for service, community and spiritual formation for adults 50 and better who are committed to social and ecological justice. We are offering new ways for our members (JVEs) to serve from home during this time of increased need for those who live on the margins. JVEs meet monthly online or in-person, creating spiritual community while staying safe. Our values arise from the Catholic Ignatian tradition and JV Encorps is an inclusive and welcoming community. Priority application deadline: August 31st. Opening Retreat in September. For more information visit: www.jvencorps.org Advocate Against Federal Executions: Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice scheduled three executions to take place over a five-day span beginning on July 13. A fourth execution has been scheduled for the end of August. If allowed to go through, these will be the first executions carried out by the federal government in 17 years. In response to this news, abolition groups across the country are asking faith leaders and people of goodwill to speak out against this attack on human life and dignity. That's where you come in. Add your name to the Joint Statement from People of Faith from Catholic Mobilizing Network urging President Donald Trump and Attorney General William Barr to stop the scheduled federal executions. Sign the Joint Statement from People of Faith Our catholic faith calls us to build a culture of life-something we cannot achieve with a federal government that puts people to death. The Church teaches, in the light of the gospel, that “the death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person”, and she works with determination for its abolition worldwide. (CCC2267) Vine Maple Place is Hiring! Our friends at Vine Maple Place have a few openings available. Vatican Releases Document on Integral Ecology:

On June 18 the Vatican released a document on Integral Ecolo-

gy titled “Journeying for the Care of the Common Home” and

was put together by a number of the Vatican Dicasteries. Coin-

ciding with the 5th Anniversary of Laudato Si, the document pro-

vides ways and guidance that the whole Church, from parishes

to schools to families and organizations can embrace the teach-

ings of Laudato Si and works towards a sustainable world for

generations to come. This document also coincides with the

beginning of a year focused towards Laudato Si that Pope Fran-

cis announced as well as a 7-year plan to work towards global

sustainability. For more information on the document, visit this

Vatican News article. For information about Laudato Si year,
