F or the fourth year in a row, New Jersey Motorsports Park is hosting one of the largest vintage motorcycle racing organizations in North America, the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA). Racers come

from all over the United States and Canada to compete in the CPL Systems National Historic Cup Roadrace Series. Bikes range from tank-shifting Indians to steadfast Triumphs, and Honda CB160s from our childhood to Vintage Super-bikes and fearsome, current Superbike-spec big twins.

Dubbed “America’s First Defense Airpot” in 1941, Millville Airport was home to the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt. Thousands of soldiers and civilians served here, with about 1500 pilots receiving advanced fighter training before going on to fight in World War II.

The motorsports park sits on 500 acres immediately adjacent to the Millville Airport; now the names of those WWII planes and the brave souls who flew

them are commemorated by the racetracks on which modern-day racers compete – Thunderbolt Raceway, named for the P-47 Thunderbolt, and Lightning Race-way, which bears the name of the P-38 Lightning, both reknowned fighter aircraft.

Our AHRMA races are divided up in many ways – age of the motorcycles, displacement, brands, even side-cars and a taste of the future with electric-powered eMotoRacing bikes. Take a walk through the paddock to see all of the bikes up-close. Some of the motor-cycles you’ll see were being ridden at the time when those wartime aircraft were in the air over Cumber-land County. Our motorbike pilots range in age from “newbies” in their 20s to experienced veterans in their 70s.

This weekend of vintage motorcycle racing will un-doubtedly renew excitement for these historical ma-chines, while providing lively competition for all. ▲

F or the second year, the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) National vintage and post vintage motocross racers will compete at the NJ Field of Dreams.

Racers will be riding old iron on a new course. The mission of AHRMA is to keep the old bikes alive, and it’s great to see them in action.

AHRMA is not only the largest vintage motorcycle racing group in North America, it’s also the most diverse. In addition to roadracing activities – which include seven rider schools and 20 days of racing each year – over 100 AHRMA events are conducted each year off the pavement; disciplines include dirt track, motocross, cross country and observed trials.

Dirt track is the most traditional form of motorcycle racing in the USA, and AHRMA’s VMC Racing Frames National Dirt Track Series reaches back to those roots, including half-mile, short track and TT

events. In the 1960s and ‘70s, flat track racing ruled the land – maybe it’s time you find a classic “roundy-rounder” and get on track!

The most popular discipline in AHRMA is vintage motocross, aimed at pre-1975 machines. The Preston Petty Products Vintage MX Series is comprised of approximately 20 races each season, located all across the country. The racetracks are as diverse as could be – from farmers’ fields to iconic locations such as New York’s famous Unadilla Valley Sports Center. Give it a try – vintage MX is a whole new experience!

AHRMA also has a home for early long-travel MX bikes, the Race Tech National Post Vintage MX Series. Racing many of the same venues at the vintage MX series, this series caters to the era of drum-braked machines.

The Penton Products, LLC National Cross Country Series includes hare scrambles, GP, enduro and

ISDT-style events for both vintage and post vintage bikes. If longer courses and more saddle time is your style, the cross country series is for you.

Observed trials is recognized as a sport of precision, and AHRMA’s Speed & Sport National Vintage Trials Series gives members a place to test their skills. Bikes range from the 1930s to the late ‘70s, and the sections are designed to accommodate all skill levels.

In addition to the National-event series, numerous Regional competitions take place each year, thanks to the work of hundreds of volunteers. Check www.ahrma.org for schedules and for regional contacts, then get involved, either as a volunteer or a competitor. ▲

The 3rd Annual eMotoRacing “Varsity Challenge” electric motorcy-cle roadrace will take place July 9th and 10th at New Jersey Motor-sports Park (NJMP), in Millville, NJ.

Collegiate racing teams from the US and Canada will race their en-gineering-student-built prototype electric racebikes in the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA)-run event.

The top-placing university team will receive a $1000 scholarship awarded by series sponsor Woodcraft Technologies.

Rochester Institute of Technology, winner of last year’s Woodcraft scholarship, will have competition from Quebec’s University of Sherbrooke, the University of Michigan and Cornell University of New York.

The races at NJMP are rounds 13 and 14 of the 20-event eMo-toRacing National Championship series, run in conjunction with the AHRMA National Historic Cup Roadrace Series. Current series points leader, Brammo rider Pete Nicolosi of Charleston, SC, will seek to protect his advantage over second-place Bob Berbeco of Indianapo-lis, and defending series champion Arthur Kowitz, of Florida.

Watch for...Randakk’s Cycle Shakk-sponsored Dennis Parrish (1R) leads the points standings in the Masters of the Midwest Regional Series in both Formula Vintage and Sportsman 350. He is also second in the Vintage Superbike Heavweight class. Look for him on the track and in the paddock this weekend.

Randakk’s Cycle Shakk proudly sponsors AHRMA’s Vintage Superbike Lightweight class.
