Mission Statement: The West Pasco Quilters’ Guild, Inc. provides charity within our

community and quality education to the public about quilts and quilt making

Dear Quilters,

A BIG thank you to Judy Klingensmith and Gulfview Grace Church for allowing us to use their facility

for our June and July meetings. Our Guild has grown so much that we needed more room for

Demo-Mania and our July picnic. Another thank you goes to Betsy Turner for setting up a great Demo

day. A huge SHOUT OUT to all the presenters: Janie Franco, Marsha White, Beverly Webster,

Trish Wallick, Mary Parkin, and Lisa Beyer. Thanks for sharing your time and talents.

Judy Nichols presented the “Welcome Home” project for Habitat for Humanity. Small quilts, size

14”x14”, will be placed in a recipient’s new home in Pasco County. A workshop is in the planning

stage. If you are working on an Art Challenge quilt, just add a house and it can be donated to the

“Welcome Home” project.

This month, we will have our annual picnic. The Guild will provide the fried chicken,

a big hit last year. Stay tuned! Dannee will have a list of what each person could bring.

How to get involved with YOUR GUILD: Betsy has many classes scheduled from now until December. Terri McConn has all kinds of projects that are needed for the Boutique. The patterns are on our web page. Some ideas are: Casserole Carrier, Easter Bread Basket, Stand Up Tool Holder, The Turtle Pad, Utensil Holder, and Woven Spirals Baskets. Barbara Manning has Patriotic Patterns for our “Block of the Month” in every newsletter, and on the Members Only web page.

Since we have so many new members, I’d like to explain our Healing Hearts program. On our

Members Only web page, there is a section called Sunshine and Shadows. If you would like to share

something, happy or sad, with the rest of the Guild, you can contact our webmasters Nancy

Meinhardt or Sharon Pruitt, to have them post it for you. An email will be sent out to let everyone

know about the new post. They will never post anything without your approval and they always ask if

you would like Healing Hearts sent to you. Healing Hearts are heart blocks that you can make and

send to members who are struggling with health issues or have suffered the loss of a loved one. We

use purple hearts for health issues and red hearts for the loss of a loved one. Instructions can be

found on the Members Only web page.

Have you seen the rotary cutter thermometer (on page 5) that Aileen Kline has in the newsletter?

Charity Sew set AND MET a goal of 350 quilts last year. They have the same goal for this year!!!!!!

Please help us raise that thermometer to the top. There are many ways to help: You can make a

quilt top, quilt a quilt top, bind a quilt, cut fabric, batting, and backing, iron blocks, square blocks, even

sew on the label at Charity Sew. You get the idea, there is something for everyone to do. Charity Sew

meets a Shalimar the Wednesday following the general meeting, BUT you can go to Shalimar

EVERY Wednesday for open sew with the Port Richey Piecers. It’s SEW much fun!!!

I am a fairly new member of the WPQG, having joined in 2017. I have been amazed at the value of Guild membership and all the opportunities available to us as members. There is a wealth of talent and knowledge that is willingly shared with others. One of the greatest benefits, in my opinion, is the opportunity that we as members have to make quilts for charitable organizations. This is possible through the dedicated efforts of our members. I'm very proud to be a part of an organization that gives back to the community.

It is my hope that this information will be a reminder to us all, of the many benefits of WPQG membership. As your treasurer, I believe we get an excellent value for our $25. It's definitely the best deal in town.

Touching our world, one quilt at a time. Dianne Lyon

2019 Charity Quilt

Goal

350

Quilts!

We Can

Do This!!

Charity Sew

2020

Honor Flight

Opportunity

Quilt

Fundraising

Charity Sew is held at: Shalimar Mobile Home Village,

6529 Stone Rd. Port Richey FL From 9 am to 3 pm.

ALL ARE WELCOMED.

Our Charity Sew event is held once a month. It is always the

next Wednesday after our monthly Guild meeting.

We do ask that items made on Charity Sew Wednesday be

donated to charity. As a Charity Sew group, we may work

individually or help each other by sewing in teams, with piecing,

quilting, ironing, cutting, backings, batting, sandwiching, etc.

We provide the fabric and the batting.

As our Wednesday group has grown, we ask you to

please remember to wear your name badge.

More quilters means more fabric, and lots of threads and

scraps left behind. Please help out by cleaning up your area

before you leave. Assisting in putting back electrical cords,

rulers, mats, and fabric tubs is also appreciated.

THANK YOU.

Please feel free to bring a dish to share.

Parking is limited. If you can carpool with a friend, that would be great!

**See page 12 for more details about the Guild’s other Small Groups!**

We have now completed

148 quilts! All contributing members deserve a pat on the back!! At our Charity Sew last month some of our attending members were able to finish several “quilt bundles” to add to our inventory. Many thanks to all who came to quilt or took a “bundle” home to finish. We will be working to complete quilts again in July. There will be no new pattern for a quilt top until August, however, if you have tops completed please continue to turn them in to Judy Klingensmith or Jacquie Currey. Don’t forget to attach your name for our record keeping. You may also pick up a quilt kit at the monthly Guild meeting or at Shalimar on any Wednesday. The Charity Sew table will be open at the Guild meetings from 9 am to 9:45 am only, so be sure to stop by early and pick up a quilt kit (bundle).

Come Join Us.

FOOD BANK

Gift Baskets

Share the Wealth

The July recipient will be the host for our

Annual picnic, Gulfview Grace Church.

The Food Bank will be supporting Pack-A-Sack in July and

August by bringing individually wrapped items that children

could have in their lunch {applesauce, crackers, mac &

cheese, canned fruit, etc}.

Thank you, ladies, for making my job so joyful and

rewarding. The domestic abuse shelter was in awe of all

the pillow cases they were given. I gave them the address

of the WPQG if they have a request for any other "fabric"

items. They assured me they would keep it handy.

Please hold any lotions, soda can tabs, etc., until the

September Guild meeting, as I will be gone from June until

then. Mary Parkin will take care of the food bank

from June through August.

Thank you for all your help.

We have contracted with our judges, purchased our memento pins, (they are so cute), secured most of our vendors, and are working on the ribbons (also really cute, you will definitely want one). The Boutique is humming along but they need more of your wonderful items. We are also going to sell tickets for a Philanthropic Quilt. It will be displayed for the first time at the show. Tickets will only be sold at the show and the winning ticket will be pulled the last day of the show. Proceeds from this quilt will be used for local charities. The next meeting will be Thursday, August 8, 9:30AM at Shalimar. Come join us. We are only 8 months until the Show. Pam King, Co-chair Janie Franco, Co-chair

Quilts of Valor

The West Pasco Quilters’ Guild in conjunction with the National Quilts of Valor Foundation say to all Veterans

and Service Members, “Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and valor in serving our nation in combat.”

Quilts of Valor are personally and individually awarded to Service Members and Veterans who have been

touched by war, covering their shoulders with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. Members of the West

Pasco Quilters’ Guild create these beautiful and patriotic quilts from start-to-finish.

Welcome Home! Art Quilts for Habitat for Humanity Beginning in September, several WPQG committees will join forces for a new charity project featuring West Pasco Habitat for Humanity. Art quilts featuring houses will be donated to new Habitat owners as they receive their homes. We will be part of their official presentation as they "take ownership" of their homes. We are calling this project “WELCOME HOME! “. Judy Nichols and Kathy Sonosky will be guiding it for WPQG. Quilts will be created through the Monthly Art Challenge, encouraging members to "add a house" to the quilts they create for the monthly theme. “Welcome Home!” quilts will need to be 14" square and hung with rings sewn into the top corners rather than a hanging sleeve. Quilts can be created in any style (patchwork, applique, improv pieced, traditional or modern). They must depict any kind of a house, in city, country, beach, or neighborhood in any season. Quilts may include trees, flowers, people, children, swings, basketball hoops, kites, balloons, bicycles, vehicles, etc. They can be embellished or plain. The Community Outreach committee will handle the actual donation of these quilts. The Education Committee will offer a class in October where Judy Nichols will introduce the project and teach how to make a fused-applique quilt, with a house on it! This project was inspired by an article in Quilting Arts Magazine, Oct/Nov 2018, that highlighted Jamie Fingal who first developed the idea for homeless women and children, and expanded it to Habitat for Humanity in California. (Check out Jamie's website: The House Quilt Project. The magazine then challenged readers to create "house quilts" for Habitat for Humanity, and the response was overwhelming! The resulting quilts were sent across the US to exhibits in quilt shows and sewing expos. If you attended Lakeland's Sewing Expo this year, you may have seen some of those challenge quilts hanging in a side exhibit area. West Pasco Habitat for Humanity merged with Pinellas HFH in December, so it took a few months for the dust to settle and a point person to be identified. Patty Sutton, the Vice President for Development for West Pasco, is very excited about this opportunity to support Habitat for Humanity. We have been assured that all quilts donated by WPQG will only be placed in West Pasco Habitat homes, and Patty identified those boundaries as the north and south county lines, and east to west, the Suncoast Parkway to the Gulf of Mexico. Watch for additional information on the upcoming class. Judy Nichols & Kathy Sonosky

Fabric Scraps Project 2020

Don’t forget to save those fabric scraps, UFOs and LOPs (leftover pieces) to donate to the scrap bag

project for next year’s Quilt Show. The Quilt Show is coming up fast, so get those fabrics in ASAP! You can

bring them to the monthly WPQG meeting (look for the scrap bag box) or put them in the red plastic box at the

Shalimar Clubhouse. Or you can call me to arrange pick up (315-246-0270).

What we need:

Quilting fabric measuring less than a fat quarter and more than 3”x5”, ironed and folded in approximately 3”x5”

packets. Any fabric which is fat quarter size or larger will be cut into smaller pieces or donated for other uses

(this is so that vendors who may be selling fat quarters at the show will not feel that we are

competing with them). The size of the packets (3x5) is determined by the size of the bottom of a paper lunch

bag (the fabric pieces will be sold by the lunch bag-full, so this is important.

We also need: UFOs and LOPs (leftover pieces of a project) that coordinate and hopefully can be

recycled into another project. It helps if you can put LOPs into sandwich or storage bags to keep small pieces

together.

Please contact me if you can help sort and iron donated fabric.

This is a great way to support the Quilt Show

while putting your unused fabric to good use.

Also contact me with any questions. Thanks.
