Dear Parent/Carer,

It seems incredible that we are now at the end of this academic year. So much has been achieved by our school community and there is so much to celebrate.

The year started with the school gaining the much wanted Good rating from Ofsted who said that the school was ‘a rapidly improving school’ and that ‘the relationships between staff and pupils and between pupils themselves are strong.’

When I reflect on successes such as the school play or the Dance show or Shakefest I am reminded of how Ofsted stated that the pupils are ‘proud of their school.’

Lauren and Betsy in Year 8 entered the Under 21 Contemporary Group Dance Empowerment on June 1st and they both achieved distinction with special commendation. The group also includes the talented Charlie from Y10.

This means that 2 out of 3 judges gave them honours and wanted them to go through to the grand final but unfortunately they needed 3 honours to go through.

Lauren also had her All England Regional Final Solo Greek Dance on Saturday 8th June.

Congratulations to all the girls!

Last term, Jimmie, Ben, Adam and Kyle were busy spending their Saturday mornings with the University of Brighton constructing their own car.

It has been a great experience and all of the boys couldn't wait for their visit to Goodwood this term.

Well done to the boys for getting involved and showing such commitment to their project.

Student F24 team

Thank you to the University of Brighton for providing students at PCS with yet another fantastic opportunity.

We are encouraging all students to take advantage of the different extra opportunities that the University provides.

You can follow them on twitter@UoBoutreach.

Spelling Bee

On the 18th June Year 8 students Charlie, Harley & Fynlee went to the locality final of the East Sussex Spelling Bee at Willingdon School in Eastbourne.

All three boys did exceptionally well and all received trophies to reward them for making it so far in the competition.

Charlie won the locality final overall and was awarded a silver plate as a prize. We have also won a trophy as a school.

Please congratulate the boys on such a fantastic effort, they've made our school very proud.

Charlie made it to the final of the East Sussex Spelling Bee. He was competing against the best of the county spellers. Although he was narrowly beaten in the final round, he did PCS proud and it was great to be in the top three schools in the county alongside Uckfield and Healthfield.

Amex Numeracy CupOn Friday 17th May, 16 students went to the Amex stadium for the numeracy cup and a tour of the Brighton football club.

We got there early so we had a chance to look around, the outside of the stadium was very high and imposing. When all the other schools arrived we were introduced to Rob and Frazer who explained what we would be doing for the day and split us into different teams.

First we did a Brain Gym game, we were asked to look at lots of different football pictures and to try to memorise all of them. They were then taken away and we had to write down all of the ones we could remember. My group got 9/10, which we thought was very good.

After that we were asked lots of different questions about footballers, all of the answers were on posters around the room and we had to find the answers and

report back. An example of the questions we were asked was ‘How many footballers were born in April?’ I think we came second or first in this challenge, I’m not sure.

Half of the group were then taken on a guided tour, whilst the other half got to play Jenga. On the Jenga pieces there were amounts of money which we had to add up and the highest total won. Unfortunately we came second in that game.

We also played a sugar game where we had to guess how much sugar was in an item of food or drink.

We then got to go on the guided tour around the pitch and behind the scenes, we also got to take lots of pictures. Rob told us a lot of facts about the stadium as we walked round. Later on we had another quiz where we had to answer questions about the stadium and some of the facts Rob had told us.

There was a lot of maths involved in this part, as we had to work out how many circles and right angles there were on the pitch amongst other things.

After the tour we got to go into the club shop, we played a game, where we had a £100 budget to buy what ever we liked but we had to spend exactly £100 - this was harder than expected but we came first in that game.

Next we went back inside and played Fantasy football which many people in our group had played before. We had £7million to spend on players for our team but if we spent too much we would get points taken off our total. We spent dead on £7million and came first again.

Our last activity of the day was a football related maths quiz, we had 15 questions to answer in 20 minutes, some were easy and some took a lot of working out.

Everyone had a great day at the Amex. Both teams did really well and PCS came in third place out of 11 schools. Although we didn’t come first we did very well and everyone had a great time.

Berets & Baguettes in BoulogneWhat a fun time we had in France.

Despite the bad weather and the very long wait at customs we finally arrived in Boulogne and the sun came out!

As you can see from these photos, we had a really good time.

We all tried out some French

language and lots of us bought crusty French baguettes and fashionable berets.

Oscar and Rhys were even interviewed by the BBC for a documentary 'The Tunnel Under The Sea' which will be broadcastin September.

It was a long day but all of us agreed it was really worth it toget a taste of life in France.

Thank you to all of the teachersfor taking us.

Town Sports

On Friday the 14th of June 2019 PCS took 64 student across to the Eastbourne Town Sports Athletics event.

This event hosted 12 schools all competing in our annual athletics competition. These student ranged from year 7 to year 10. Each student performed extremely well in their respective events and had an excellent day.

There were many individual successes however, 3 individuals and one relay team set new town sports records, which is an amazing achievement. Particularly impressive was our year 10 boy's relay team breaking the 100m relay record, with a time of 47.4 seconds!

Each year group successfully finished within the top 3:

Year 7: 3rdYear 8: 3rdYear 9: 3rdYear 10: 2nd

Overall PCS finished the event in 2nd place.

This is a fantastic achievement to all involved. Well done to all and I look forward to another successful athletics season next year!

in quickly and put the ball in the back of the net but the ref ruled it offside and it remained 1-0 to PCS.

PCS carried on playing their football and found a goal with amazing skill from Nobby who flicked it over his defenders and volleyed it beautifully into the top corner of the net extending PCS lead to 2-0.

Stringer tried to retaliate with a goal of their own but PCS found a 3rd from Ryan carrying the ball and a ricochet off the defender which fell into the path of Josh who slotted it under the Goalkeeper and putting the game to bed with a 3-0 lead .

Man of the Match went to Harvey who shut down any opportunity for Stringer and worked hard for the team.

Starters: Jimmy, Harvey, Freddi, Jake, Dylan, Lewis, Ryan, Charlie, Nobby, Joe, Josh.

The year 9 football team beat Dorothy Stringer 3-0 in the final of the Europa League.

It was a competent victory with PCS dominating most of the possession throughout the game.

This has been a fantastic end to a long season, which has been very successful.

Well done!

On Tuesday 7th May PCS year 9 football team travelled to Hove Park for the Final of the League Cup against Stringer B.

Stringer got the game underway and PCS immediately won possession back with an interception from Charlie and then a shot that flew just outside of the post.

PCS carried on causing Stringer problems with great movement of the ball and finding the wingers. PCS soon took the lead with a perfect free kick by Ryan met by Josh ,who walked it into the back of the net. 1-0 PCS. Continuously throughout the first half PCS looked to play quickly with Jimmy's long kicks putting Josh and the wingers in behind.

Stringer then had a spell of their own, making PCS give away free kicks and putting us under pressure. PCS defenders dealt with the problems and we managed to go into half-time with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half both teams had chances to score but both teams defences cleared any danger. With 15 minutes to spare Stringer picked the ball up on the right and took on Freddi who cleared the ball but in the process was knocked over with a head injury. Stringer took the throw
