Counselor, teacher and grant writer/coordinator services have been provided by me to the public in Mississippi since 1984. My experience includes classroom, school building, district office and state office experiences that are both direct and administrative in nature. I was last employed as an 8th grade teacher at Vicksburg Junior High School providing special education services from August to December, 2015.

Caregiver, Landscape Foreman, Behavior Specialist 6/2011-8/2013Provided care for aged parent in addition to working as a landscape installation foreman and for a public school district as behavior specialist.

Counselor, Grant Writer, Coordinator 7/2008 - 6/2011Natchez-Adams School District-Natchez, Mississippi 39120 (601) 445-2800Served as an alternative school counselor, middle school counselor and grant writer coordinator over this three-year period, first at the alternative school and then for two years at the middle school. Additional days and time were contracted for throughout these years as a district grant writer coordinator to pursue funds for meeting district needs and to coordinate activities/programs secured from those funds and evaluate those secured. Other duties were performed as requested.

High School Counselor 7/2003 - 6/2008Bay-Waveland School District-Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi 39520  (228) 567-6621Served as a high school counselor grades 9-12 at Bay High School (student body 600-700). The guidance office operated with a registrar and two counselors and offered support to students in academic guidance (course selection, transcript monitoring and other related academic assistance), personal and social counseling, assessment assistance and career planning. Students were supported by the same counselor for the entire stay at the high school. New students received orientation and transition support assistance. Graduating students received letters of reference, exposure to career opportunities, scholarship search, financial aid assistance and guidance. Personal counseling was offered support and/or referral to community resources.

Director for Counseling Services/Grant Writing/Testing 7/2000 - 6/2003Oktibbeha County School District-Starkville, Mississippi (662) 323-1472As a member of the district office staff, served as the district test coordinator and was responsible for state testing. Researched and wrote for funds that were available through state and federal grants. Once these grants were obtained, assisted in setting up and operating these grants. Provided detailed assistance to district counselors regarding testing, planning and scheduling as well as other needed assistance.

Teacher 8/1993 - 12/1999Grenada Middle School/Grenada School District-Grenada, Mississippi 38901 (662) 226-1606Taught 8th grade students at a medium size (1,200) middle school US History and Computer Discovery. Taught Technology Discovery one year at the high school. Helped write a few grants the first year teaching there also.

Coordinator Eisenhower Mathematics and Science Program 5/1991 - 10/1992MS Department of Education-Jackson, Mississippi 39205 (601) 359-3499Administered Title II federal dollars designated to improve mathematics and science by training teachers in grades 1-12. Monies, in excess of two million dollars, were distributed to 150 school districts based on a developed plan submitted by them. Contracts administration for this program, including compliance, direction, evaluation and reimbursement were my sole responsibility. Also wrote for additional funding and read some federal proposals.

Coordinator/Counselor of Dropout Prevention Grant 11/1988 - 6/1990Hattiesburg Public School District-Hattiesburg, MississippiServed as a public school district level dropout prevention coordinator who was responsible for setting up a federal grant funded under the National Dropout Demonstration Program. This comprehensive program included prevention, intervention and retrieval components that ranged from pre-K through GED programs for youth. Also wrote a few grants and served as the alternative school administrator for a short time.

Project Director, Dropout Prevention Model 9/1987 - 11/1988MS Department of Education-Jackson, Mississippi 39205Responsible for the program direction, administration and operations of six dropout prevention model programs operated by six public school districts throughout the state. These programs were funded through the Job Training Partnership Act. Collaborated with other agencies/entities to pursue/acquire additional grant funds for various programs.

Associate Psychologist 1/1987 - 9/1987Hudspeth Center-Whitfield, MississippiResponsible for the evaluation, programming and monitoring of approximately 60 adult severe and profoundly handicapped men housed in a state residential facility. This included behavioral modification and psychotropic medication monitoring.

Counselor/Teacher/Job Developer/Recruiter 1/1984 - 12/1986South Panola School District-Batesville, MississippiIn this JTPA funded program operated by the school district, Responsibilities were to set up a guidance component designed to assist at-risk youth ages 14-21 who had left school or were at-risk of leaving. Established group guidance classes focusing on inter/intrapersonal skills, employability skills and self esteem. Provided guidance for entering employment, career choice and personal/social growth. Also assisted in grant writing and other program development.
