voiceThe Town of Kensington and the Wheaton & KensingtonChamber of Commerce partnered for a Business-BuildingNetworking Coffee on May 27. We combined breakfastwith networking at this fun event, and met with other business people at the different tables.
The breakfast was at held Java Nation, a new European-stylecafé, at 10516 Connecticut Avenue, Kensington, MD 20895(301-327-6580). Owner Henry Cabana hosted this event
and provided complimentary coffee. Java Nation offershouse blends, single origins and fair trade coffees in additionto teas, wine and beer, and a full selection of lunch and dinner items.

Mr. Lucas was awarded the “Certified RegisteredLocksmith” designation after he took the AssociatedLocksmith’s of America Certification tests. He becameone of the first professional locksmiths in this area toreceive that designation.
To keep up to date on security, life safety codes, and locking hardware, Mr. Lucas has attended industry certification classes, re-certification classes, and locksmith education updates.
Mr. Lucas is a former VP (3 terms) of the DC AreaLocksmith’s Association, and served on the Board ofDirectors several years. He has been a member of theNational Association of Chiefs of Police, AmericanSociety for Industrial Security International, and variouscivic groups and professional business associations.

WVRS Captain Receives the Colburn Cup Award
The Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad, Inc. (WVRS) is proudto announce that Adam St. John is this year’s recipient of theGeorge W. Colburn, Jr. Cup Trophy Award for an OutstandingAct of Heroism presented by the Maryland State Firemen’sAssociation (MSFA). Also recognized were FF Johnny Ruvolo,FF Julio Deras, and Captain Brett Russell. The annual awardwas presented at the MSFA Annual Convention andConference in Ocean City, MD.
Captain St. John was honored for his heroic actions on Dec. 22,2014 at a house fire in Burtonsville, where he helped rescue atrapped firefighter. The dramatic rescue was captured on videoby a camera on St. John’s fire helmet. The residents of thehouse escaped uninjured thanks to working smoke detectors.
Adam St. John also received the Colburn Cup in 2008 for rescuingthree children trapped in a house on fire in Kensington. He is the first 2-time winner in the over 80-year history of theColburn Cup. He joined the WVRS as a 16-year old in 2002.
A volunteer, not-for-profit corporation, the WVRS responds toover 11,000 emergency calls annually in partnership with theMontgomery County Fire & Rescue Service. The WVRS islocated in Wheaton, MD, a diverse multi-cultural community.Since 1955 it has operated thanks to the generous donations of its neighbors. www.wvrs.org

Paul Sexton Receives Edward Jones AwardPaul Sexton of the financial services firm Edward Jones recentlywon the firm’s exclusive Spirit of Caring Award designed to
recognize those financial advisors whoexemplify the values, culture and spiritof giving back. Sexton was one of only213 financial advisors out of the firm’smore than 12,000 to receive the award.
Jim Weddle, the firm’s managing partner,calls Sexton a leader in the firm and anexample of what a dedicated EdwardJones financial advisor can achieve.
Paul serves on the WK Chamber Boardof Directors, and on the Boards of several other communityorganizations. He also just finished a term on the KensingtonTown Council.

Prior to the event, Ali Oliver-Krueger, Director of InterActStory Theatre, was going to leave for an educational out-reach mission in rural Kenya, and she needed a passport.
Ali had read about Ted Emerson of Beltway Visa &Passport in the “Spotlight on a New Member” feature inthe WK Chamber November-December 2014 newsletter
(www.BeltwayVisa.com). So she contacted Ted, who isgreat at expediting the process of obtaining a visa and passport. When her passport was ready, the two agreed tomeet at the Java Nation breakfast for the transaction.
InterAct Story Theatre (www.InteractStory.com) was featuredin a “Spotlight” article in the March-April 2015 newsletter.
Ali would travel with Kenya Connect, an educational non-profit organization whose mission is to strengtheneducation in rural Kenya – by cultivating connections thatsupport a comprehensive approach to eliminating barriersand increasing opportunities. Along with a team of teachers,Ali would be teaching in rural Kenya, conducting a series ofprofessional development workshops, demonstration lessons, and coaching sessions.
