Do you want to drive the ball farther?

A golfer must understand that to hit the ball farther, it’s necessary to swing the club faster – not harder. Golf is a counterintuitive game, particularly in this instance. In order to swing the club

faster, we must have less tension in our hands, wrists and arms. Keep these extremities loose and coil your body in the backswing. Unwind fast through the ball, releasing your hands and wrists through the hitting area. Finish facing your target and admire that extra distance!

Personal TrainingPersonal training is a great way to get personalized routines designed to increase your performance and fitness results. And if you’re new to the gym or coming back after some time off, our personal trainers can help you get back into shape safely with faster results. Please check out the sports tab of our website for personal training specials and tips.

The Club at Town Center is now offering a great new fitness tool to track personal achievements. Fitassess.com is a web-based fitness assessment program that gives personal trainers the tools to conduct a complete physical assessment for their clients. Tests include BMI, blood pressure, body fat analysis, body measurements, cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility and muscular endurance. The program compiles these results for a ranking that is compared to national averages, and it also provides a number for a body’s fitness age. This information is useful for determining a starting point and making it easy to set goals. It’s also a means of tracking your overall improvement, which boosts motivation and keeps you focused on your training. For more information or to set up your physical assessment session, please speak to any of our personal trainers.

What a busy Summer!

Summer is always hot here in Reno, but most people I know enjoy the change in weather. Outdoor landscape projects begin to slow down as the heat begins to take its toll on us. As you may

have noticed, Sierra Canyon has finished a number of large landscape renovations and the results are great.

Our landscape company, The Groundskeeper, has been working double time to complete a long laundry list of landscape items by the end of summer. Small, pathetic shrubs have been replaced with large, new plantings, steep grassy slopes have been replaced with xeriscaping and additional evergreen trees have been planted behind the Lodge along with walking trails and more. Sierra Canyon will enjoy the benefits of these improvements for years to come!

Weeds remain are an ongoing maintenance issue for not only Sierra Canyon common areas but for individual homeowners. Remember to plan ahead – if you’ll be leaving for a lengthy period of time, consider hiring a landscape company to keep weeds in check during your absence. Mow strip trees this time of year will show signs of stress and if you need to replace yours, there are other options available instead of simply re-planting the same mow strip tree.

Enjoy the summer months with the grandkids and family and be sure to take advantage of summer programming and fitness classes at the Lodge.

Noise Pollution By Stephens & Edwards, LLP

“Of all the varieties of modern pollution, noise is the most insidious.”—ROBERT LACEY

Neighborhoods in the summer are typically more active than in the colder seasons, with residents spending more time outside enjoying and maintaining their yards, children playing in the

garden, outdoor parties taking place, and pets left outside to bark at rabbits. Since our northern Nevada climate is conducive to leaving our windows open instead of turning on our air conditioners, summer brings a heightened awareness of the sounds of neighborhood activities. We usually acclimate to the new level of noise that is shut out by closed windows in the winter, however, there are times when the intensity of noise, or the constancy of noise becomes offensive. Under Nevada law, noise becomes a nuisance when it is excessive, interferes unreasonably with the comfortable enjoyment of life or property, and when it disturbs the peace of persons of reasonable and ordinary sensibilities. A noisy activity is not unreasonable if it occurs only on occasion, but it does become unreasonable if it occurs frequently and after dark.

What should you do about a constantly barking dog, a neighbor who has too many all night barbeques, or a next door music lover who has his Pandora volume on max? Knowing your neighbors and developing good relationships with them is a first line of defense, makes approaching them about an ongoing problem easier than having to confront strangers, and establishes a basis for amicable solutions to everyday problems. If neighborly requests for quiet have been ignored, and your tolerance has expired, the governing documents of the homeowners’ association set forth guidelines for making formal complaints about violations of the CC&R’s and the Rules and Regulations. Become familiar with those documents to learn about your rights and responsibilities. In addition, as a Reno resident, you have a right to report excessive and unreasonable noise to the police, or to the sheriff, if you live in the county.
