Trip to National Railway Museum

Trip to National Railway Muse-

um, York, Tuesday 14 June 2016

Ten of us enjoyed a day out visit-ing this national museum. We travelled by rail, arriving at the mu-seum in time for lunch.

As the weather was good, we were able to eat our packed lunches outside in the picnic area.

The rest of our time, which went very quickly, was taken up viewing the royal carriages and engines before heading back to York rail-way station for the return journey.

Many thanks to Nadine and Chris-tine for helping to organise this day out. And if you've spotted there are only nine people in the group the photo, it's because the tenth person, committee member Tanya, is taking the photo!

Protect Your Home!

Don't let a thief catch you out!

With the coming of longer daylight hours, West Yorkshire Police is urging homeowners to protect their homes and not be caught out by opportunistic thieves. Warmer weather and longer days lead people to leave windows open and doors unlocked whilst they are out in their gardens. 30% of burglaries happen when opportunistic thieves walk in through an unlocked front door and 26% through unlocked or open windows www.westyorkshire.police.uk/burglary .

By following some simple steps residents can greatly reduce their chances of becoming a burglary victim.

REMEMBER

Keep doors and windows locked at all times – even when you're inside.

Don't forget to lock the door behind you and remove the key from the lock.

Keep keys, cash and valuables out of sight and in a safe place.

Ensure electronic items are out of sight when not in use.

Ensure chargers for electronic items are in the drawer rather than plugged in and on show,

Door chimes might deter a burglar from entering your property but remember, always lock your door.

If you're outside gardening or hanging out washing, make sure doors and windows are locked.

Put packaging for expensive items in the bin or take it to be recycled. Don't advertise what's in your house.

Make sure door and window locks are fitted to the appropriate standards. Cheap locks or deteriorating fittings all make your home an easy target for burglars – more info at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/help-advice/crime-prevention/your-home/euro-cylinder.

Check that existing security, such as alarms and external lights are working and use them to protect your home.

Consider downloading free tracking software for items such as laptops and mobile phones.

Join or start a Neighbourhood Watch Group and look out for your neighbours.

Secure tools away in the garage or shed after use.

If you have a garage use it to store your vehicle out of sight.

Keep an eye on a neighbour's home when they are on holiday by opening and closing blinds and curtains and removing mail from the letterbox.

For police non-emergencies or for advice about home security, call 101 and ask for your local Crime Pre-

vention Officer.
