While in Malawi Africa last summer, I remember our very first outreach event. It was in the parking lot of a plaza simply called the Post Office. In addition to the post office, there were food vendors selling nuts, fried potatoes, and mice on a stick. Gift shops lined the back of the lot, about 10 different shops, each separated by blankets used as walls. Across the street was a mall full of the hustle and bustle that almost felt like home. The parking lot was full of pedestrians, cars, and cyclists all passing through on a late Monday morning in the midst of their regular day.

The outreach was exhilarating. The mix of adrenaline, nerves, the language and cultural

barriers made this moment feel most serene. As we finished the dancing, the testimonies, the drama, the message, the prayers for healing, etc., we got into the bus to journey on to the next outreach site.

While in the bus, we celebrated the new salvations and healing that had just taken place.

A young man from Sweden called those in the bus to attention and encouraged them with the following message: Even though the scene may feel loud and chaotic, don’t get caught up in the over-stimulation of the surroundings. We are the body of Christ, and wherever we go and whatever we do, remember that it is a holy moment. These words are so true. As temples of the Holy Spirit, as the body of Christ, as a holy people - Be ready for the holy moments.

Moses was tending sheep when he encountered a holy moment with God through the

burning bush. Samuel, at a young age, was sleeping when God was calling him. Saul was on his way to do evil when God redirected (to put it lightly) him. The disciples were in a boat going on to the next location when Jesus appeared walking on the water. The Samaritan woman was just going to get water from the well when she encountered Jesus and He changed her life forever.

My encouragement to you is to prepare your heart. Know that we are the body of Christ

and temples of the Holy Spirit, therefore God wants to have holy moments with you and use you to provide those moments for others in need of the Hope of Jesus.

THE SHEPHERD’S FLOCK On Sunday May 5, Michelle & Jeremy Coley dedicated their son Kohen M. Co-ley to the Lord; on Saturday, May 18, Jessica & Marcus Wanner dedicated their chil-dren, Brinley Davis Wanner and Sadie Lynn Wanner to the Lord; on Sunday, May 19, Courtney Halecki & Nicholas Pannuty, Sr. dedicated their son, Nicholas Augustino Pannuty, Jr. to the Lord. May their lives be richly blessed with the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. On May 11th Estelle Hardesty went home to be with the Lord. Estelle will be greatly missed. Her enthusiasm as she shared in worship was an inspiration to us all. We know that Estelle is rejoicing on the streets in heaven with her Lord and Savior.

Thank you to all the men and their sons who participated in the Father’s Day service.

Our Saturday morning Bible Study is in recess for the summer. We will resume our Bible Study in the fall.

We will be having our annual horseshoe tournament on August 24

th at Otts

Hicks’ house in Lake Shore. This event is a great time for men of all ages. You don’t have to throw horseshoes even. It’s just a great time to fellowship as men. Watch for details to follow.

Sunday School

Thank you to everyone who helped make the Strawberry Festival a success! The crab cakes and strawberries were delicious! The Sunday School made over $1,700. This would not have been possible without all those who helped make the crab cakes, cut up strawberries, helped the day of the festival in so many ways, and all those who came out and supported this event! We are now in our summer session of Sunday School, and we want to thank all the volunteers who have stepped up and helped out already or will be taking a Sunday this summer teaching our kids. What a great way to serve by teaching our children about Jesus! Don’t forget Vacation Bible School will be August 5

th through 9

th from 6:30 p.m. to

8:30 p.m. The theme is “Roar” – “Life is Wild – God is Good!” Be sure to get your kids signed up and let your neighbors and family know too! The kids will love it!

CrossFire Youth Group

Besides doing our Flamingo Flocking this summer, the Youth Group will be going on a Missions Trip to Nashville July 20-27. Please keep the youth and leaders in prayer as they serve others in Nashville. CrossFire weekly meetings are on summer break. We will resume our regular meetings starting September 4th.

Ladies Aid The Ladies Aid members have been very busy and profitable this year despite

being without two of our key members, Grace Sutherland and Bobbie Suska. Despite their health issues these ladies continued to support our ministry and projects and were always eager to guide us to success in our events throughout the year. We ask that you keep them in your prayers.

Ladies Aid had a very successful Cookie Walk and Christmas Bazaar, set a new

record on our Easter Egg orders and the total profits at our Strawberry Festival Bake Sale.

This year we donated to four families in need at Christmas, prepared dinners for members with health care issues, sponsored the Spaghetti Dinner for the Youth Group mission trip and will cover the gasoline expenses for their trip, donated to Johns Hop-kins Children’s Cancer Fund, donated to the Church mortgage and other church main-tenance projects, visited and provided toiletries to the Locust Lodge residents, wrote cards to our military oversees, sponsored a hole at the Golf tournament, distributed gifts for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and helped out at other church events.

The members want to extend their appreciation to our congregation who helped

support our fundraisers by donating baked goods, volunteering at our events or by at-tending & purchasing our goods.

The Ladies Aid will take a break for the summer months to refresh, relax and

Deacons Bench

Some changes have been made in the Deacon ministry. There are now 5 Dea-cons instead of 6. Ken Kretsinger has stepped down from his Deacon position to con-centrate on his various other ministries. Rich Drgos, Helen Edwards, Bob Kruger, Yvonne Pumphrey and Karen Tressler remain as Deacons. If you are not sure who your current Deacon is, please contact Rev. Zahn or Pastor Jesse. The Deacons have been actively participating in home visits, hospital visits, providing Communion to shuts-ins, food and clothing for those in need and supporting church family members in their grieving process. Several ministries have been working alongside the Deacons to pro-vide meals for church family members who are sick and in need of assistance. We are so grateful for the support provided by these ministries. Our hearts are filled with joy and comfort when we work together to keep Jenkins love flowing.

The Deacons have also assisted in presenting the study series “Prophecy” and “Overcomer” by Dr. David Jeremiah. Both of these series provided us with a deeper knowledge of our relationship with the Father and our dedication to serving Him.

Looking into the future the Deacons will be presenting “The Daniel Plan” some-

time around March or April. It is not just a diet plan, but a series that deals with Body, Mind and Spirit. We will also be starting a new small group study in the fall. The cur-riculum has not been decided on, but we will provide you with updates.

If you know of a church member who would like Communion and cannot get to

church, or any member that has special needs please contact your Deacon and we will do our best to assist with those needs.

June is PTSD awareness month.

Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating trauma/stressor-related disor-der that can occur after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It can be a real or perceived threat of injury or death brought on by natural disaster, combat, physical assault or sexual abuse. People with PTSD have a heightened sense of danger. Their natural fight or flight response is damaged causing them to feel stress or fear even in safe situations.

PTSD can happen to anyone at any age. (More than 2/3 of children in the US report having experienced at least one traumatic event by the age of 16.) PTSD occurs as a response to chemical changes in the brain after exposure to threat-ening events. PTSD IS NOT the result of a character flaw or weakness. Symptoms can disrupt normal activities and the ability to function. They can be trig-gered by words, sounds, smells, situations, anything that reminds you of the trauma. Symptoms:

Flashbacks – feels like the event is occurring over and over. Nightmares Emotional apathy Lack of interest in daily activities Inability to express feelings Avoidance of people or situations that are reminders Constant feeling of being on guard Irritability/ anger Negative thoughts about self Distorted feeling of guilt, worry or blame

In addition people with PTSD may experience depression and panic attacks. PTSD is treated with behavioral therapy, support groups and medications. Self-treating of symptoms with non-prescription drugs and alcohol to cope may in-crease symptoms. Early treatment of PTSD can provide effective strategies for coping with intrusive thoughts, memories and flashbacks. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE. If you feel you are suffering from PTSD call your doctor, contact our Pastors, Dea-cons or Parrish Nurse, but don’t stay in pain, seek help.

Jenkins Women in Christ We just finished up our Bible Study called “She’s Got Issues”. Our next Bible Study will begin in September on the armor of God by Priscilla Schirer. We had a great time making herb gardens in May. Coming up on August 16 we will host a family movie night at the church which will be free, and we will sell snacks.
