It wasn’t the first time, but it set me thinking and I decided to do Internet research about the nasty little critters. Google led me to the website of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.gov) from which I clipped and pasted most of what follows. “Most ticks go through four life stages: egg, six-legged larva, eight-legged nymph, and adult. After hatching from the eggs, ticks must eat blood at every stage to survive. Ticks that require this many hosts can take up to 3 years to complete their full life cycle, and most will die because they don't find a host for their next feeding." Interesting, but what fascinated me is the way ticks feed. After all, that’s really "where the rubber hits the road." Ticks find their hosts by detecting animals breath and body odors, or by sensing body heat, moisture, and vibrations. Some species can even recognize a shadow. In addition, ticks pick a place to wait by identifying well-used paths. Then they wait for a host, resting on the tips of grasses and shrubs. Ticks can't fly or jump, but many tick species wait in a position known as 'questing'. “While questing, ticks hold onto leaves and grass by their third and fourth pair of legs. They hold the first pair of legs outstretched, waiting to climb on to the host. When a host brushes the spot where a tick is waiting, it quickly climbs aboard. Some ticks will attach quickly and others will wander, looking for places like the ear, or other areas where the skin is thinner.” More than its sensory abilities, I am fascinated by the miniaturization of the tick. The tiny pest uses food for energy much the same as a horse or elephant. But, look what God did with the tick: He put in it a digestive tract, respiratory system, reproductive system (a momma tick can lay up to 18,000 eggs at one time.), and a brain and circulatory system. Try that, you computer geeks, with your microchips and nanno-whatzits. Given four and a half billion years, I suppose such a creature might have come into existence as a result of a long series of accidents, but to believe so seems to require a HUGE leap of faith. I prefer to believe in an Intelligent Creator (God). I hope someday to ask Him why He created such an evil little parasite. Meantime, I continue to hold to the theory the tick is some sort of unfortunate mutation resulting from the influence of sin. We do, after all, live in a sin damaged world! I look forward to the return of Christ when "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain (or ticks), for the old order of things has passed away." Rev 21:4 Faith & Hope, Bro. Chuck

August 6th 9:00-11:00 am

I know it has been awhile since I have given an update on our minister

search but, it hasn’t been because we have not been meeting and re-

viewing candidates. We are currently involved with two gentlemen, one

who we interviewed in person and, another we will interview via phone

on Monday, July 15. We believe both to be excellent candidates. Part

of our process involves reviewing responses provided from a question-

naire and listening to sermons provided by the candidates. After this, if

we believe the candidate to have certain qualities we are looking for, we

conduct an interview.

We have completed this process with a couple of other candidates that

we missed out on. One decided to stay at his current location and the

other chose another church.

The search committee appreciates your patience throughout this proc-

ess. Finding a new minister is never easy and requires much prayer and

patience. I believe we have committed ourselves to both and hope that

you can stay with us as we see this process to its completion.

Psalm 37:7-9

Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him

who prospers in his way, because of the man who carries out wicked

schemes. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret, it leads

only to evildoing. For evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for

the LORD, they will inherit the land.
