Media LanguageCinematography

The framing of our video is very gender biased towards men. We have included absolutely no females in any way whatsoever. This is a representation of the fact that this genre is dominated by men.

At the start of the video, close ups are used to introduce two of the four characters. Mid shots are then used to introduce Josh I and Josh B as the two singers of the group and a duo. There is a big range of different shots used in the video to show the characters and the scenes used in the video.

We also used Low shots to illustrate an era of dominance over the listeners from the singers. The way they move and the gestures they make also strengthen the image of a higher place m8.

Editing

We used different effects in the first half of our video. We used a slow effect called ghosting for when Josh B was making the hand movements in the air. This was so that the movements were in time with the beat.

We also used other effects to show that the people in the band are fun and that the video isn’t very serious.

Some of the video had a colour tint of Black and White whist the rest of the video is normal colour with a Glow and Bloom effect on it.

The video is not always edited to the beat of the song however there are parts of the song for Eg. At the beginning with the guitar strumming performed superbly by Fred and the clips frequently relate to the lyrics of the choon.

Mise-en-Scene

We used different costumes in our video to show the genre of our video, such as hoodies, which are frequently seen in hip hop videos. We did, however, not conform fully to the genre with our costumes as we wore suits for our live performance, which you don’t see much in hip hop videos.

We also wore sunglasses a lot, which became a motif for our group and was a way for our audience to recognise us. The pink ones in particular were important as they are on the front cover of our digipack and we use pink and black a lot in our video and ancillary products.

The locations that we used were in contrast to what is normally associated with videos of this genre.

Sound

Our video contains only diegetic sound, from the track. There are parts in the video when the lyrics match the image on the screen, such as

when the leaves are falling on Josh I, or Josh B’s hand is motioning to the sky. There are also instances when the visuals match the music, such as the part when Josh B’s hands are ‘ghosting’.

NarrativeOur version of Todorov’s 5 point Structure

1. The characters are introduced (Apart from Cy, who rolls in late as per usual)2. Cy finally arrives at the Live performance.3. Josh B makes obscene gesture at Josh I (It was rude)4. The crowd that we definitely organised and didn’t steal from YouTube rocking out

at our gig.5. The resolution of Josh & Josh walking in to the sunset like lovers.

Genre

We do have a little bit of genre classification with the hoodies and the glasses. These are seen in a lot of hip hop videos. They also help with the marketing of the video as the glasses are used in our ancillary products as well. Our video isn’t really conforming to the genre, which means that the audience cannot predict what will happen next.

RepresentationI think that we have gone some way to representing today’s Youth Culture in

our video. The costumes (Hoodies, shades) identify with the fashion of young people today (apart from Josh’s leather coat). Also, a lot of the scenes in the video are just out-takes which the Youth of today will find well funny. We are young as well, which identifies with people who are also young.

Some Pictures

Theses images show the fun nature of our video and also depict some of The scenery used in the video, which in uncharacteristic of the hip hop genre.

Audience

Location, Location, Location

Parents may want to control what their children view and may not want them to watch our video as it contains swearing, spitting, sexually suggestive gestures and references to ganja. If this video was shown in a cinema, there would be control over the accessibility as there would be a strict age (15) certification in place, which no one would dare cheat. This wouldn’t happen at home, so the video is much more accessible.

consumption, consumption, consumption

The audience of our video could be people that enjoy music of our particular genre or they could just be people who enjoy a diverse range of genres. Our audience would most likely be young people in their teens.

SIZE, SIZE, SIZE

We have a niche audience, that’s about it.
