We have some wonderful things happening at the NEC! Cheri Tenaglia, Ted Coletti and David Banks have been working very hard to set up Google Meet for all sister clubs to use for online meetings with the NEC G Suite account. Each sister Club needs to contact Cheri Tenaglia @ [email protected] for the initial set up.

Since the NEC Convention was cancelled this year due the corona virus we will be having a Virtual Awards Banquet on June 7th. An email blast will be going out a few days prior with instructions on how to join and view it. Grab some dinner and join us for some fun, all are welcome to attend!!!

Stay Healthy! Nancy Villars mailto:[email protected] NEC Calendar Update:Recent hobby events cancelled or rescheduled are below (changes as of 8 PM May14th):

Virtual

June 7, 7:00 PM Please join us as we replace the traditional convention banquet with an online virtual banquet. We will present annual NEC awards, give an update on what is happening in the NEC and the NEC sister Societies. We have dates for the annual convention for 2021, and a new hotel! Ted Colletti will host the event, it can be viewed thru YouTube so nothing special is required. Hope to see everyone there! Watch the NEC Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Northeast-Council-of-Aquarium-Societies-NEC-243913172321/ ) page for the event with all the details.

Being an NEC Club has its benefits! The newest benefit is being able to have an email address through our G Suite account.

Google Meet is a video conferencing service that is a lot like Zoom. Is Google Meet better than Zoom? Honestly, they are very similar in the paid versions. Each has good things. But we can provide the midlevel paid version of Meet to your club at no cost. ● Google Meet is FREE for all G Suite customers ● Easy to set up from Google Calendar or your inbox ● You do not have to download anything, works from your browser. ● No time limit for your meeting ● Larger meetings up to 250 participants ● Participants can phone in with provided telephone # and pin if they do not have internet. ● Can see up to 16 people on your screen at once & if you install the GRID VIEW Chrome

extension, unlimited people. ● There is an app that you can install for your smartphone. ● Can record meetings that automatically go into your Google drive as an MP4

(this feature may go away in October - I’m working on ways we can still record…) By now you may have heard that Google Meet is now free for all Gmail users. The free Gmail accounts will not have as many features.

This will provide your club with:

1 Additional drive space for your club. 30 GB for a G Suite account vs 15 Gb for a Gmail account! (it costs $20 per year to get more space in a personal account)

2 The G Suite account can have multiple aliases (up to 30 aliases per account - they must be set up by admin but all mail will go into the same inbox making it convenient.)

3 And Google Meet…

Page 5: Jun Oct - Northeast Council...Aquatic Maestro #8, Gouramis Aquatic Maestro #9, Live Plants Aquatic Maestro #10, Catfish and Bottom gang Aquatic Maestro #11, Cichlids Aquatic Maestro

5

If you set up a meeting through your personal Gmail account: ● limited to 100 participants (G Suite gets you 250) ● participants cannot connect using a phone number (must use the internet) ● can only be attended by people with a Google account. ● cannot record meetings

If you would like to set up an account for your club please write to [email protected] Link to video of first information session: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1pJHO9s9vM-EwC1yIlZymgh15miKv9lzM Link to video of second information session: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1kTgJvb2TyMv6UQ5MnZamVM3yPyaE0vRp
