1 : loose material (as rock fragments or organic particles) that results directly from disintegration

What are Junction Cards?• Technical: Interface

collecting power, bias, and control lines for an entire wedge together in one 90-pin connector.

• Operations: Last human-reachable point along power & control cable supply route.

• Mine: 114 weakest links in the silicon system

• Trigger/Clock comes to Silicon Readout Controller (SRC)

• SRC cmds ! VRB Fanout (VFO) ! VME Readout Buffers (VRBs)

• SRC cmds ! FIB Fanout(FFO) ! Fiber Interface Boards (FIBs)

• FIB cmds sent to 2 PCs via FTM on FIB Timing Cable

• PC (transceiver 1 ! 5) !DDR ! HDI ! Chip Chain

• Data from ChipChain ! HDIs ! DOIMs ! FTM ! FIB

• FIB processes and (10 ! 4) ! VRB Event Buffer/SVT

JC Failure Modes• 90-Pin connector gets pulled apart when cables are

touched

• 90-Pin connector gets unseated after being re-seated because elastic RTV pulls it apart again

• 90-Pin connector comes loose when someone sneezes in the bore

• Grounding twisted pair comes unconnected from Junction Card while re-seating another JC’s 90-pin connector

• Short circuit

The saga of IB2W2

• Had been out since beginning of data taking

• Several attempts to fix it were unsuccessful

• Last chance fall 2004 shutdown

• Could see 90-pin connector separated in boroscope

• JC pusher recovered whole wedge

Short circuit

• 2V DOIM tripped when L0 was powered

• later in its life L3 AVDD tripped on overcurrent

Sili-Baggy

• Isolates silicon volume in order to keep silicon cold

• Limits access to Junction Cards

Conclusion

• Junction Cards are an example of why connectors are so important

• Access limited now by baggy
