THROUGH THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST WE SHARE IN GOD’S KINGDOM

Today we celebrate the Body and Blood of Christ, a day that helps us appreciate the Sacrament that gathers us to-gether around the table of the Lord. Through the Eucharist, Christ gives us a share in the mystery that is God’s love for us.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: The sprinkling of the blood of the young bulls upon the people as splashing it upon the altar ratified the covenant between God and the Jews. The reading from Hebrews reminds us that Jesus is the Me-diator of the New Covenant. In the Gospel, Jesus consecrates bread and wine as His Body and Blood, instituting the Eucharist.

CLERGY APPOINTMENTS: Monsignor Michael Lapierre has decided to withdraw from his diocesan appointments as Vicar

General, Chancellor, and Judicial Vicar as of June 8, 2012. He will also withdraw from his position as Administrator of Holy Cross Parish on June 30, 2012. His decision to step back from his appointments is for a period of one year. It should be noted that there is absolutely no question of misconduct of any kind in this decision, which he discussed with his bishop beforehand. I am very grateful for the hard work, generosity and commitment that Monsignor Lapierre has applied to these positions over many years in serving the Diocese of Victoria. Rev. John Laszczyk appointed Vicar General “pro tem” effective June 8, 2012. Effective June 30, 2012: Rev. Anthony Gonsalves OFM appointed Pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Victoria. Rev. Jai Prakash Joseph will return to his home Dio-cese of Bellary, India, at the request of his bishop. Rev. Jose Prakash (not a relative of Rev. Jai) from the Diocese of Bellary, In-dia, appointed Pastor of St. Ann’s Parish, Duncan. Rev. Frank Franz will retire and will be available to assist with priestly ministry. Rev. Vicente Borre appointed full-time Hospital Chaplain in the Greater Victoria area general hospitals. Effective August 1, 2012:

Rev. Shayne Craig, former Rector of St. Joseph Seminary, appointed Pastor of St. Patrick’s Parish, Campbell River.

NEWS FROM ST. PATRICK’S CATECHISM PROGRAM: Congratulations to our catechism students for faithful attendance and completion of the Year One program: Ranan Anderia, Rand Anderia, Javier Duran, Sergio Duran, Lexie Krakowski, Dwayne Lemos, Julia McDermott, Justin Mogato, Olivia Murphy, Dana Puli, Robert Shirley, Angelo Vergara, Riley Walsh. Thank you to the parents of these boys and girls for your wonderful support in deed and prayers. Have a wonderful Summer and we will see you in the Fall as you continue your Faith Journey. Barb Shenton, Religious Education Coordinator.

Thank you to St. Patrick’s Parish for your prayers and support of our Confirmation and First Communion students. Thank you to the CWL and Knights of Columbus for the beautiful lapel pins and rosaries that the children received; to Frank Falzon and Tom Staples for teaching; to Susan Smedley, Tom Staples and Kathleen Seu and the St. Patrick’s School

choir for the music; to the St. Patrick’s School PAC, Siobhan Gramlich, Danielle Carter-Sullivan, Bruna Perusi and her team of ladies for the reception; to Domingo Aquino and Heidi de Contreras for help with set up and administrative details. The children and parents were appre-ciative of the presence of teachers from St. Patrick’s School. Finally, a big thank you to Fr. Bill and Bishop Gagnon for their guidance, sup-port and prayers. Sincerely, Barbara Shenton.

HOBBY GROUP MEETING: Monday, June 11th, at 10am. Thank you.

FLOWERS FOR OUR LORD’S HOUSE: Father Bill and the flower ladies give a bouquet of thanks to all the parishioners who gave so generously from their gardens this past year. URGENTLY needed at this time are spring flowers. So, if you would like to share your floral bounty with your parish family, the flower ladies would appreciate fresh garden flowers for Our Lord’s Altar. Please call Gisele at 250-592-9207 and arrangements can be made for pick-up or delivery.

ARE YOU READY FOR YOUR 15 MINUTES OF FAME? This fall, St. Patrick’s Parish will present a story unlike any other. A dra-matic, spectacular and emotional quest for spiritual inspiration. At our Centennial Dinner, September 15, we will tell one of our own stories from our parish history. The 1907 anecdote, “The Amazing Story of Fr. Vullinghs and the Statue of Mary.” Adult auditions for this short drama will take place the week of June 17-22, to allow actors time to familiarize themselves with their lines in preparation for rehearsals, which will begin after August 15. Please contact Keefer Pollard at [email protected] or 250 818 9801 to enter your name to be part of this production. We are casting for the following parts: Radio Announcer, Fr. Vullinghs, Fr. Vullinghs’ sister, the doctor, the maid, the Span-ish Countess, and will need many people as “extras” for the crowd scene. Who are you not to be gorgeous, talented, fabulous and brilliant? Call or email today and be part of our living parish history!

THE CATHOLIC FOUNDATION OF VANCOUVER ISLAND - ANNUAL GEN-

ERAL MEETING: Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 10:00am, at the Pastoral Cen-tre (4044 Nelthorpe St.). The Trustees welcome your attendance at this meeting.

STOP THE HUNGER CRISIS IN WEST AFRICA: This year, the Sahel region of West Africa is once again confronting a catastrophic hunger crisis. An estimated 15.6 million people are facing food insecurity and more than a million children are suffering from acute malnutrition. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) have an-nounced a joint campaign to respond to the serious food shortage and drought. Devel-opment and Peace, in partnership with Caritas Internationalis and its emergency pro-grams, is helping local Western African community groups cope with the effects of the food crisis, which threatens to worsen over the summer. Together with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Development and Peace is supporting large-scale food distribution projects organized by Caritas Mali, Caritas Niger and Caritas Burkina Faso. For more information, resources, or to make a donation to this crisis please visit www.devp.org

for call 1-888-664-3387.

NEWS FROM ST. PATRICK'S SCHOOL - At the Spring Fair, June 15th, we will have a cake walk. This is a very fun event that the children look forward to each year. Each child who participates in the cake walk has an opportu-nity to win a cake and have fun at the same time!!! If there is anyone who is willing to bake and donate a cake it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Brigitte Breault at 250-598-9322 or [email protected].

NEWS FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL: The past week has seen SARHS athletes set all sorts of records. Our Track and Field team competed in the Provincials in Vancouver and demonstrated skill, enthusiasm and sportsmanship. All of the athletes managed to finish in a top ten position in their competition. They were inspiring in their dedication and work ethic. The St. Andrew’s Rowing Academy competed in the Canadian Rowing High School Championships. They dealt with sun, rain, wind, thunder & lightning and came home with outstanding results. Their hard work throughout the past year has cer-tainly paid off. We wish to thank all those who helped our athletes through their prayers and good wishes. The first Annual Alumni Picnic took place on Saturday, June 9. This was a wonderful opportunity for present and past members of the St. Andrew’s commu-nity to share a meal together. This is a wonderful tradition which will be sure to grow over the coming years. The next week will certainly be a busy one with the completion of courses, our year end Sports Awards Banquet and the yearly Grad Baseball game. The year has seen many successes and blessing.
