Robert Sousa – “25 years I’ve been here, Royal Fiesta [Caterers & Event Center]. When they book with me for a wedding, bar mitzvah, they buy an experience. If their special friends, family have to pay to park, it’s go-ing to hurt them – and us as a business… There has been no communication between the League Chairman and the other businesses. Don’t meter this place. I urge a meeting with ALL the business owners. We’ll pay special assessments, cams. I’m really concerned.”

Steve Scaggs – “I have the same sentiments as everyone else does [2 Georges at The Cove]. I know the city manager has met with the representative of the associa-tion. I had no idea about any of this until Thursday, when we got this paper – The Cove Shopping Center – Parking Concept. And find out they have been working behind our back.”

Marge Hilton – “I’ve lived in The Cove since 1968. I think it’ll turn a lot of people off if you meter The Cove. In the earlier discus-sion, not one business I heard wanted metering.”

Richard Maggiore – “During the day, most of the spaces are empty; they’re used primarily by the doc-tors’ offices… The Green Market people are bringing people in that are using our bathrooms ,. Now they had a food trucks there and are selling shoes… Putting me-ters in just on weekends and nights, we [Tipperary Pub] would be out of business! We’re not looking for a free ride, but we have to survive.”

Arthur D’Amato – [Deer-field Green Market Organ-izer] “The merchant whose clothing and shoes are being complained about is SoHo,

a longtime merchant in The Cove Shopping Center.”

Joe Heinz – “Don’t think anybody here is going to spend $3-an-hour per me-ter!”

Fran Bruno – “If you listen to our State Senator, small businesses are the backbone of our economy. You’re going to kill the own-ers there. You’re going to end up with a deserted shopping center!”

Robert Riebe – Appar-ently, years ago, there was another association, The Cove Shopping Center Mer-chants Association [with a couple of the current mer-chants], but as far as I’ve read in the records, it was an inactive association. That doesn’t mean it can’t become active again.

“What people don’t un-derstand is that when you’re working with an entity like the city, it takes an inordi-nate amount of time just to come up with ideas, options, concepts for everybody to consider. We’ve had three successful meetings with the city manager. We’re working toward something that prob-ably won’t happen now ‘til next year.

“What we were supposed to do, sometime this week, [after the city commission meeting], was to have a meeting for all the busi-ness owners to consider the concepts, and come up with counter ideas and concepts. It never got off the ground. Unfortunately, you can’t make everybody happy. “

Professor Dina Delsanto (the lovely Juliette Binoche).

Professor Marcus is a scoundrel, but a charming one. Professor Delsanto is the Ice Queen with a warm heart. The two bicker and de-fend what is more important, “Words” or “Pictures?” A philosophical war is declared, with the outcome being de-cided by the student body of an Ivy League prep school.

The head games between Binoche and Owen are a de-light to watch and listen to too. Being adults, the two strike each other like a fire poker, but know when to cool off in a moment of serious crisis. One sees both professors’ professionalism rise to the

occasion when two students are involved with harassment charges.

Near the end, Words and Pictures suffers from a scene of over-the-top melodrama. However, the conclusion works and that is all that matters.

The best thing about this film is watching two art-ists overcome their own handicaps. While Clive Owen presents an easy vice - vodka and lime - Juliette Binoche’s character suffers from rheu-matoid arthritis. Words and Pictures is a worthy alterna-tive to over produced and over hyped Summer Blockbusters.

Pony tail stalker can’t do anything right

It was doomed from the get go. Secret agent server man,

always wanted to be a U.S. Marshal. If you are doing surveillance on someone, having no less than 5 pass-ing motorist see you and call your target and tell them there is a ponytail gecko looking thing slinking around your office, is NOT a good thing. Even Rockford never paraded by a target 3 times in 3 days with 3

different secret agent junk cars. Perry Yoga Mason only accepts high profile cases. Ones that can make a name for himself by losing.

The Deerfield Beach Housing (DBHA) is seeking a Director of Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Programs to oversee the day-to-day opera-tions and fiscal responsibilities of the HCV program in accordance with HUD regulations and DBHA policies. Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Director of HCV is responsible for planning, directing, monitoring and evaluating the services and activities associated with the management of subsidized housing programs to include the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) and HCV Homeownership programs along administering 482 vouchers. The Director of HCV serves as an internal consultant to the Executive Director and Board of Commissioners on sensitive and/or complex subsidized housing issues, and will assist the Executive Director with the agency’s Grievance Policy, Annual Plan and Five Year Plan. The incumbent will provide general supervision to staff involved in the performance of services and activities assigned to the department. Requirements: Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field and three years of experience in HUD housing programs; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
