World Priest Day

June 19, 2020

June 19th is theSolemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of

Jesus and also the World Day of Prayer for the

Sanctification of Priests.St. Francis of Assisi always had

a great respect and admiration for priests because it is from

their hands that Jesus gives us His Body and Blood, in the

Eucharist. Please join us as we pray for priests and all

consecrated religious. Let us join the Church in prayer,

praying in gratitude for the gift of the Priesthood as well as

for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and

consecrated life.

Prayer for Priests

Lord Jesus Christ, eternal High Priest, you offered yourself

to the Father on the altar of the Cross and through the

outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave your priestly people a

share in your redeeming sacrifice. Hear our prayer for the

sanctification of our priests.Grant that all who are ordained

to the ministerial priesthood may be ever more conformed

to you, the divine Master. May they preach the Gospel with

pure heart and clear conscience. Let them be shepherds

according to your own Heart, singeminded in service to

you and to the Church and shining examples of a holy,

simple and joyful life. Through the prayers of the Blessed

Virgin Mary, your Mother and ours, draw all priests and the

flocks entrusted to their care to the fullness of eternal life

where you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit,

one God, forever and ever. AMEN. ~Pope Benedict XVI

A New Way to Give! We want

to thank all of you who have

embraced this new way of

giving. The response has been

exceptional. We had a great rollout plan for Pushpay

which would have slowly introduced it and explained in

detail the whys and hows until the implementation.

Unfortunately with the unexpected Covid19 pandemic,

we were forced to scrap our rollout plan/schedule and

just make it available. Pushpay is a great and innovative

company. They are also very supportive to the parishes

they serve. Overall it has gone great, thanks to all of you.

There are some features we would like to have that are

currently not available. JoEllen Baker and Rhonda

Hansen are continually working with the Pushpay team to

request changes/updates that will meet the needs of the

Mary Queen Community. Please see the new Giving

Options Tab on the website homepage. It has some new

features for giving and second collections.

You can text the words Mary Queen to 77977 and

follow the prompts to pay through your smartphone. To

use the online giving option, go to pushpay.com/g/

maryqueencatholicchurch. Pushpay currently accepts

Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, as

well as ACH (bank account) payments!

it through the end of June. Please cancel your Faith

see “Cancel My eGiving Account”. If it does not allow

you to cancel online, you can call them at 1866507

Queen Church.

To set up your recurring contribution on Pushpay, simply

text the words MARY QUEEN to 77977 or go to https://

pushpay.com/g/maryqueencatholicchurch. As you set

up your recurring gift you will complete the creation of

your new account. Unlike Faith Direct, Pushpay does not

give us the option at this time to make all second

collections visible or to schedule annual giving.

If you need assistance with setting up your Pushpay

account or canceling your Faith Direct account, please

Manna in the Desert

(Body and Blood of Christ: Deut. 2:816; 1 Corinthians

10:1617; John 6:5158)

Moses tells his people that God deliberately tested them

with afflictions. To modern ears, this is perhaps more

shocking than Jesus’ telling his disciples, in the Gospel,

to eat his flesh and drink his blood.

Every age has its time of testing: persecution, disease,

economic collapse, famine, etc. How are we to make

sense of this?

Let us read Moses’ words more attentively: God’s

purpose was twofold: to “find out whether or not it was

your intention to keep his commandments,” and “to

show you that not by bread alone does one live, but by

every word that comes forth from the mouth of the

Lord.”

At La Salette the Blessed Virgin was very much aware

of her people’s affliction. She came to beg them to

honor God’s commandments. While acknowledging

their hunger, she regretted their failure to seek the

Bread of Life. “In the summer,” she declares, “only a

few elderly women go to Mass. The rest work on

Sundays all summer long. In the winter, when they

don't know what to do, they go to Mass just to make fun

of religion.”

Let us return to Moses, and hear his words in a broader

context. Before mentioning the afflictions, he says:

“Remember how for forty years now the Lord, your God,

has directed all your journeying in the desert.”

Thus, along with the afflictions of hunger, thirst and

serpents, God provided manna, water from the rock,

and the bronze serpent.

St. Paul reminds us: “The cup of blessing that we bless,

is it not a participation in the blood of Christ?

The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the

body of Christ?” He wrote this in a time of testing: there

were many divisions in the Christian Community of

Corinth, and his point was that our sharing in the cup

and in the bread makes us one.

The Mass is not just an obligation. It is a precious gift.

When we forget this, we forget precisely what Jesus

meant when he said, “Do this in memory of me.” He

invites us to his table, that we may receive life from the

Living Bread, and sustenance in our times of affliction.

Please join us for daily and weekend Masses in the

Church. During this time of the covid19 virus, there

are a few things you need to know before attending

Mass, Confessions and Adoration.

Arrive to the church about 1520 minutes before Mass

to allow time to be seated. Do not congregate inside or

outside of the church. Remain 6 feet from nonfamily

members.

Please enter through the front doors of the church and

exit out of the closest exit at the conclusion of Mass.

All those 10 years and older who enter the church and/

or chapel must wear a mask covering mouth and nose.

Mask must be worn at all times.

Please use hand sanitizer after entering the church.

Remember social distancing. Sit 6 feet from non family

members.

Communion will be given in the hand only. After

receiving the Body of Christ, step to the side, lower

mask, consume and replace mask.

There will be no offertory during Mass. Baskets will

be placed in the back of the church. Kindly deposit

your envelopes or cash in the baskets. The online

giving or text to give is also available.

Seating is at 25% capacity which is 400 people.

Weekend Masses are reserved seating only. You can

make your reservation on the Mary Queen website or

call the office Monday Friday from 9:00 AM 12:00

PM. Daily Mass is on a first come first served basis.

At the conclusion of Mass, please remain seated until

dismissed by the usher. Once dismissed, exit the

church immediately to allow time for cleaning and

sanitizing the church for the next Mass.

For those who cannot join us in person, you may do so

via Facebook Live. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

at 8:30 AM, Wednesday, 6:30 PM and Sunday at 9:30

AM.

Thank you for your continued support in so many ways.

Mary Queen, pray for us.

A Blessing In Disguise

For The Memorial Prayer Garden

During April and May, when our church was closed, a

young parish family came every Sunday to pray in our

Prayer Garden. After a few Sundays of prayer, Mary Beth

Wright was inspired to adopt the Prayer Garden and

create a pleasing sight that was more conducive to

prayer. Joining her in this mission was her good friend,

Janet O’Keeffe, Fr. Sibi and college student, JC Mills.

They all spent many hours cleaning and beautifying the

Prayer Garden. They purchased flowers and plants and

diligently planted them. The Prayer Garden is now

complete as it has been given a new face and looks

beautiful. Please take some time to sit in the Prayer

Garden and take in its beauty as you pray. We would like

to thank Mary Beth, Janet and JC for their generosity of

time, talent and treasure to beautify the Prayer Garden.

There are several other gardens that need to be

refurbished. If you are interested, please contact Mary

Beth at 5615232754 for more information.

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

It is no wonder that followers of Christ are called the Body

of Christ. After all, sharing in the same spiritual food and

sacred meal, they become what they eat and reveal the

Divine Image. There is so much power for healing in the

community of believers. Through the Eucharist, Christ

becomes as present in those who have partaken of his

Body and Blood as he has the elements themselves. The

very presence of God touches the depths of the human

soul and visits a part of us that no human being can ever

hope to explore. We are God’s. The sacred Eucharistic

meal is a celebration of intimacy, the reunion of two loves

in constant search of and longing for the other.

The community of believers receives the power and the

presence to touch and heal in the name of the One they

have welcomed within. It is now within their grasp to

change the way life is lived and to more intentionally put

into practice the Beatitudes that the Divine Guest has

revealed. We are asked to be like Christ and work to

create a world of sufficiency, where the greed of some no

longer creates the want of others but where all of God’s

children can find a home and a place at the table of life.

The One who makes a home within calls us to live a life

that transforms. We are changed ourselves and now

become agents of change for others. We are the Body of

Christ. God is with us. We have been nourished.

Sadly, many are afraid to try. We know what we are called

to do, but we struggle with feelings of doubt as to whether

God really is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Do our

systems have to change? Is it possible that we somehow

missed the mark when we put all of our social networks in

place and established the business of our lives? Perhaps

we have to radically rethink our approach and that can

scare us. We might have to give something up or change,

and we don’t want to. As long as want, injustice, division,

prejudice, and scarcity still exit, there is tremendous work

for the Body of Christ. ©LPi

Dear Parishioners,

I am happy to welcome Mr. James Miller to our Mary

Queen Staff as our new Office Administrator. Much of his

prior employment has been in Business Administration

and so we look forward to benefit from his experience

and the gift of his talents and abilities in service to our

Mary Queen Parish.

Please read his introductory note and give him a warm

welcome to our Parish Community.

Fr. Jim Kuczynski, M.S.

A Note From Jim Miller New Office Administrator

I am humbled and honored to join the staff of Mary

Queen, fulfilling a desire to serve God by serving our

Parish and Church, while utilizing my 20 plus years

managing human relations and business management.

My family and I have been parishioners here at Mary

Queen for the last two years and it has become home for

us. My wife, Monette, and I recently celebrated our 19

th

anniversary and we have been blessed with three

wonderful children.

I am a life long Catholic, born in Southern Louisiana, in

the heart of Cajun country, where our culture and history

is deeply tied to our Roman Catholic faith. During my

senior year of college in Denver, I finally followed God’s

call to the seminary. I spent three and a half years in

formation, grew spiritually and deepened my personal

relationship with Christ. These years have prepared me to

surrender to following God’s will in my life. I was then

called by God back to the lay life, where in a few months,

God graced me with meeting my future wife. I am a proud

graduate of LSU. Go Tigers! I have spent most of my

preprofessional as well as professional life in the culinary

field from cook, manager, broadline distributor salesman,

consultant, to plant manager/human resources director of

a food processing company. After 27 years, I left that field

and entered a completely different one, which brought the

Millers to Friendswood and Mary Queen Parish.

It is an honor to serve our parish in this new role. It is

here that my life long call to serve our Holy Mother

Church will be fulfilled.

Consumer Alert: Scammers Impersonating

Pastors to Solicit Gift Cards

Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a consumer alert

regarding persons alleging to be priests or pastors,

texting members of the church and asking them to buy

gift cards for a false charitable cause.

Texans have received deceptive texts from people

pretending to be pastors, then requesting that they

purchase a gift card and send them the information to

access that card. The scammers claim these cards are

needed for some charitable reason, but insist they cannot

pick up a gift card themselves and the purchaser will be

reimbursed.

All Texans should be aware of unsolicited calls and texts

from scammers impersonating leaders of the church. We

believe that the scammers are using information found on

churches’ websites or bulletins. Churches throughout

Texas have seen reports of this scam.

The Heart of Stewardship

What else is there to give when one has already given

away one’s body and one’s life? What more can one say

or do to demonstrate love for another when all one had

has been given to another? This total giving of self to

loved ones cannot be trumped by flowery words or

material gifts that are fleeting. This is the ultimate in love.

This is the love Jesus had for us on the way to his

Passion, at the institution of the Holy Eucharist. This is

the love he has for us daily in the celebration of the Mass

on altars in every church, in every city, in every nation on

earth. No one can give more. No one can ask for more.

This is the true heart of Christian stewardship.

If you take the time to gaze upon your God in the

simplest of forms and begin to reflect on what has

actually taken place with bread and wine becoming the

presence of the Divine, then you can begin to understand

true humility, sacrifice, and love. And when you have the

privilege to take that Real Presence into your body at the

meal where you are an honored guest, you become one

with the One who is the embodiment of stewardship.

Then, you must ask yourself, “How can I even begin to

reflect the love that I have encountered at this feast?”

The answer is you can begin with the simple actions of

the day: where will you go, whom will you meet, and in

what work will you partake? Jesus Christ has shown that

the greatest gift ever given can be disguised in this world

in a piece of bread. By joining your body to his, he can

now transform human hearts, not by grand acts, but by

everyday acts, by everyday people, practicing Everyday

Stewardship.
