REACHING IN, REACHING OUT, REACHING GOD

Fr. Jim’s Jottings Friends, it has been 14 weeks since we celebrated a public Mass. The last Mass was the weekend of March 15…a long time ago. It is appropriate that we have our first public Mass this weekend as we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi (The Body and Blood of Christ).

For the past two weekends many have come to receive Holy Communion. I was inspired to see so many come even though there has been no obligation. I think it’s a sign of your belief in the real presence of Christ and its importance for our faith. But now we begin to celebrate the presence of our Lord in the context of Mass….thanks be to God. ********* For the time being, because of health concerns there are limitations on how many can come to our Masses (25% of capacity which is about 125 people). I hope you understand. I’m hoping that eventually we’ll be able to lift these restrictions. This weekend we have two Masses scheduled (Sat 4:00pm & Sun 10:00am). If too many people can’t get into church this weekend, we’ll add a Mass. Let’s see how it goes. Remember there is no obligation to come to Mass for the time being. If you are not feeling well and are up there in years, it’s recommended that you not come to Mass because of concern for your health. Church will be opened a half hour before Mass. Those who come to Mass will have their temperature taken at the door. Wear a facemask and sanitize your hands. You’ll see the seating spacing. Please observe what’s been laid out. Directions for receiving Holy Communion will be given as well as how to leave church. As we’ve done each Sunday our Mass can be viewed on our parish website on Sunday at 9:00 am. Additionally, we will offer Holy Communion at 11:00 am for those who would like to receive our Lord. ********** This week we will also resume our weekday Masses (Mon 12:05, Tue 12:05, and Fri 12:05. St Mary’s will have Mass on Wed 12:05 & Thur 12:05). People will have their temperature taken, wear facemasks, sanitize their hands, and observe social distancing. I think we will have adequate space for those who come to weekday Masses. Our Parish Offices will remain closed through June. However, our staff is present. To reach them, you just need to call or email them.

Bishop’s Annual Appeal Thank you to those who have responded to this year’s Bishop’s Annual Appeal. So far 430 parishioners have committed $75,376 towards our parish goal of $77,175. We are slowly but surely crawling to our goal. If you’ve not given to the campaign yet, we can use your gift to get to the target. Thanks. Help us Recognize Dad!

We are still accepting pictures for our St. Joe’s Father’s Day display. Please find a photo of you and your dad and mail or email it to:

[email protected]. Your photos will help us create a tribute to dad for our Father’s Day bulletin. We need your pictures by Tuesday, June 16. Summer Projects During Coronavirus This week every parishioner should have received a letter talking about a couple of projects we’d like to take care of during this coronavirus….refinishing our pews and floor as well as improving the layout of our sanctuary. We could get this done this summer when there is

no obligation to celebrate Mass. There won’t be another time like this when we can get things done without inconveniencing us as much. What’s involved with these projects? The church pews would all be removed from church for 6-8 weeks. We would put chairs in place during this time….observing social distancing. With the pews removed, we’d refinish the terrazzo floor which could take a couple of weeks. We’ve talked often about the crowding and setting up chairs in the back of church. It’s a safety hazard that we want to prevent. Our plan is to move the altar platform back to the reredos (about 12 feet). That would allow three more rows of seating in the front of church….solving the problem of crowding in the back of church. I can assure you of more details in the weeks ahead. I think these plans will make our church interior even more beautiful than it already is. Please pray with me. Thank you.

If you have lost a spouse, child, family member, or friend... Please consider St. Joe’s new Grief Share Support Group. This group will help and encourage you after the death of a loved one. We urge you to connect with our leaders and find out

about this 13-week program. The group is scheduled to begin July 13. Contact Julie V. for more info at 920-707-0327 and reserve your spot.

Can the Parish Help? These are very difficult days for some families in trying to make ends meet. Some have lost their

job or have had their hours cut back. If St Joe’s can help in some way, please call the Parish Office and let us talk with you.

Live The Liturgy- Inspiration for the Week They recognized him in the breaking of bread. This was the amazing revelation or epiphany that occurred on the Road to Emmaus. Bread that had been transformed into the Body of Christ opened the eyes of the disciples and showed them who was really with them. Their hearts were burning. Sometimes we struggle with our belief in the Eucharist because we

make it too much of an intellectual challenge. If God’s divinity was wed to humanity in the incarnation of Christ, then why is it not possible for God to take simple elements of bread and wine and transform them into his Body and Blood? Affirm your faith today that the Eucharist you receive is God Himself. Become what you eat and allow God to embrace your soul and touch that part of you that no one else can touch. ©LPi

Church Chuckle A devout old shepherd lost his favorite Bible while he was out looking for a wayward lamb. Three weeks later, a sheep walked up to him carrying the Bible in its mouth. The shepherd

couldn’t believe his eyes. He took the precious book out of the sheep’s mouth, raised his eyes heavenward and exclaimed, “It’s a miracle”!

“Not really”, said the sheep. “Your name is written inside the cover.”
