The reason that I say that Memorial Day is of- ten misunderstood is because many people in our society struggle with understand- ing the difference between Memorial Day, Veterans’ Day, and even Labor Day. They think Memorial Day is about sleeping in a little late, firing up the grill, and enjoying a three-day weekend, not even realizing that the very free- dom to do such things was purchased by the blood and sacrifice of countless Ameri- cans soldiers! The truth is, Memorial Day is not about the beginning of summer, grilling hamburg- ers, and having Monday off work. It’s about the men and women who gave their lives so that we could exercise such freedoms! Jesus said in John 15:13, “There is no greater love that this; to lay down one’s life for a friend.” As a husband, father, pastor, and proud American, I for one am so thankful that so many brave men and women chose to make the greatest sacrifice of all so that my family could be free! So to all those that we re- member this Memorial Day, and to their families who were left behind, I say, “Thank You!” Thank You for giving so much to so many who may take their freedoms for granted. Thank you for preserving our right to freely exercise those freedoms given to us by God. Thank you, and I pray that you will be hon- ored this Memorial Day and every Memorial Day to come! A Note from the Pastor by Dr. Steven Weems

Dear FBC Leeds Family,

Just a few weeks ago, on Monday May 29th, we as a nation celebrated an often misunderstood but very im-portant holiday called Memo-rial Day. The reason that I say that Memorial Day is of-ten misunderstood is because many people in our society struggle with understand-ing the difference between Memorial Day, Veterans’ Day, and even Labor Day. They think Memorial Day is about sleeping in a little late, firing up the grill, and enjoying a three-day weekend, not even

realizing that the very free-dom to do such things was purchased by the blood and sacrifice of countless Ameri-cans soldiers!

The truth is, Memorial Day is not about the beginning of summer, grilling hamburg-ers, and having Monday off work. It’s about the men and women who gave their lives so that we could exercise such freedoms! Jesus said in John 15:13, “There is no greater love that this; to lay down one’s life for a friend.” As a husband, father, pastor, and proud American, I for one am so thankful that so many brave men and women chose to make the greatest sacrifice

of all so that my family could be free! So to all those that we re- member this Memorial Day, and to their families who were left behind, I say, “Thank You!” Thank You for giving so much to so many who may take their freedoms for granted. Thank you for preserving our right to freely exercise those freedoms given to us by God. Thank you, and I pray that you will be hon-ored this Memorial Day and every Memorial Day to come! In Him, Bro. Steven
