Washington Area Steering Committee Town Hall Frequently Asked Questions

In early May, the Washington Area Catholic Education and Formation Steering Committee held Town Hall Meetings that were designed to keep the parish and school communities informed of the committee’s progress, to share the information and research that has been gathered to date, and to seek input from the members of our parish and school communities. The members of the Steering Committee are very grateful to the parishioners, parents, and educators who attended these

meetings and shared their thoughts and insights. The questions and comments made at these meetings were recorded and carefully reviewed by the members of the Steering Committee over the past several weeks. As promised at the Town Hall Meetings, the Steering Committee has responded to many of the general questions that were raised at these meetings. You

will find on our parish’s website responses to the frequently asked questions. You are encouraged to review these responses. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact our parish’s representatives on this committee.

These individuals are:

Kathy Mueller : [email protected] Collene Unerstall : [email protected]

The Steering Committee will continue to meet over the summer months and will communicate again later in the summer.

Adoration St. Gertrude Parish holds Eucharistic Adoration every Monday

adoration. (Adoration is not held on holidays that the parish office is closed.)

June 17th Blurb- 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time Dynamic Catholic, Alive! - Are you Humble?

Are you humble? What a tough question to answer! When we look at our Catholic history and tradition, we see that all the great saints were humble people who understood just how

weak and sinful they were. In response, they continued to rely on the grace of God to overcome their weaknesses and to

make them a new creation, capable of spreading the love and joy of Christ to others. Think about St. Joseph, St. Francis of Assisi, or St. Teresa of Calcutta. Are they not some of the most humble people you could ever imagine? This humility we are called to involves understanding where sin remains in our lives and seeking to overcome it. It involves walking the

journey of life with sinners and not becoming self-righteousness. It means that we must be quick to listen and slow to anger. How can you grow in humility to become a better witness for the Kingdom of God?

captivity. You’ll travel back into Bible times—without setting foot outside our

community. Experience this fun, hands-on Bible-times city at St. Ann Parish Center. Each day, your child/children can

become part of history as they see, hear, touch, and even taste what it was like to live in

Babylon! You’ll explore the Marketplace shops, visit Daniel, take part in games, dance to lively Bible songs, and sample tasty tidbits as you discover more about

Daniel’s adventures in Babylon. These experiences make God’s Word come alive with new meaning for all who

participate! The adventure is on July 16th thru 20th.

For the last 7 years children of our parishes, their friends and families have participated in Vacation Bible School. Each summer, 80 to 90 children

engage in Christ, encounter team work, and reach out to the community. Each year, you, our parishioners have supported this, week long, extravaganza for God and we are eternally

grateful. I am here to ask for your continued support. In the back of church you will find a giving banner to help

financially sponsor our event, please take an ornament. This will help offset the cost of the many activities and

games the children participate in. In addition, this year we are asking for travel sized toiletries (soaps, shampoo, deodorant, etc). The children will be putting together blessing bags for our local first responders to hand out. First responders regularly encounter families in the area plagued with homelessness and others displaced by a fire or eviction. At bible school the children are reminded of God’s love for them and love of others. This is an

opportunity for them to proclaim and live the message of Christ, first hand. Baskets will be available in the back of St. Ann and St. Gertrude Churches for these items.

Again, on behalf of the Vacation Bible School organizers,

thank you for your prayers and support.
