FATHER’S DAY ~ The readings today are about growing and developing. These are signs of the kingdom

and of faith deep within us. There are certain people in life who are called, sent, and expected to guide,

protect, mentor, heal, love and effect countless other things in our life. These certain people called

‘fathers’ have enormous potential to affect our growth and development. One sad truth, however, is that

many have experienced a debilitating blow to their own growth and development. In the formative process of growth for

most men, they were actually de-formed while in the crib, or shortly thereafter. They watched the men in their lives acting

strong when they should have been vulnerable and asked for help. They watched men get angry when they should have

seen hurt or sadness. They soon were told when they cried, that men don’t cry – men are tough! Many learned at a very

early age not to trust others with their feelings; not to show anyone feelings that suggested any needs. In many ways, the

message ended up suggesting men shouldn’t and don’t feel. A real man is always in control, always strong, always has the final word, always wins, always makes decisions. The sad truth is, that it’s, simply not true. A real man feels, hurts,

needs, shares, cries, laughs, loves, and is soft, hard, broken, healing, kind, compassionate, giving and receiving. We

need such fathers. God makes such fathers. The gospel forms such fathers. This Father’s Day cries out for such fathers.

These fathers are the ones who will shape, form, mentor, and bring forth amazing growth and development from the

beautiful children entrusted to their care. Happy Father’s Day oh wonderful men who have been invited into the God-ly

work of making and caring for life – for being co-creators with God and planters and caretakers of the next generations! Father Perry Leiker, Pastor

Dear St. Bernard Catholic Community,

The St. Bernard Class of 2018

had their Graduation Ceremony on June

6th and I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to this

class. Our Class of 2018 was composed of many great role

models for our younger students. They really set the tone for

our school this year! Graduates, thank you for bringing joy,

hope, friendship and compassion to our school community.

I am also proud to announce that this class earned over

$300,000 in Catholic High School Scholarships. Wow, what an

accomplishment for our school! They showed their Faith by

participating in the Life of the Church, they demonstrated

Academic Excellence at St. Bernard and on their high school

entrance exams and they continually showed a commitment to

giving to others. We also have 100% of our graduates attending

a Catholic High School in the Fall.

I would like to thank the entire St. Bernard

Community for your support of St. Bernard School!

DÍA DEL PADRE ~ Las lecturas de hoy hablan del crecimiento y desarrollo. Estos son signos del reino y la fe profunda dentro de nosotros mismos. Hay ciertas personas en la vida que son llamados, enviados, que guían, que protegen, que educan, sanan, aman y efectúan incontables otras cosas en nuestras vidas. Dichas personas llamadas 'padres' tienen un enorme potencial para influir en nuestro crecimiento y desarrollo. Una triste realidad, sin embargo, es que muchos han experimentado un giro debilitante para su

propio crecimiento y desarrollo. Durante el proceso formativo de su crecimiento, la mayoría de los hombres fueron de-formados en la cuna, o un poco después. Observaron a los hombres con los cuales convivieron actuando fuertes cuando deberían haber mostrado vulnerabilidad y pedir ayuda. Vieron a los hombres reaccionar con enojo cuando deberían haberlos visto expresando dolor o tristeza. Si lloraban, en seguida se les decía que los hombres no lloran - que los hombres son fuertes! Muchos aprendieron a una edad muy corta a no confiar a nadie sus sentimientos; a no mostrar sentimientos de debilidad. En muchos sentidos, el mensaje sugiere que los hombres no deberían tener o no tienen sentimientos. Un hombre de verdad siempre está en control, siempre es fuerte, siempre tiene la última palabra, siempre gana, siempre hace las decisiones. La verdad es que es eso simplemente no es cierto. Un hombre de verdad siente, se duele, necesita, comparte, llora, rie, ama y es tierno, es duro, se quiebra, sana, es amable, compasivo, da y recibe. Necesitamos tales padres. Dios hace tales padres. El Evangelio forma tales padres. Este día, Día del Padre clama por tales padres. Estos padres son los que formarán, educarán, y traerán consigo un crecimiento increíble y el desarrollo de los hermosos niños confiados a su cuidado. Feliz Día del Padre hombres maravillosos que han sido invitados a ser co-partícipes de la obra de Dios de crear y de cuidar de la vida - por ser co-creadores con Dios y por ser sembradores y cuidadores de las futuras generaciones!
