4 Ways To Show You Care - Giving Back With Social Media
On the Job: Why you should have paid attention in grammar class.
Think about one of the dozens of emails you send in the last week at work.
Did any of them have typos? Spelling errors?
Was each of them concise and clear? Did they convey that you’re a capable profession-
al?
Sending emails every day has become as routine to most workers as brushing their
teeth. But that casualness also can mean that we send poorly written messages riddled
with errors, say Brenda Greene and Helen Cunningham, authors of The Business Style
Handbook.
With the explosion of texts, instant messages, social media posts and blogs, they say that the writing rules first outlined in
their book 10 years ago are more important now than ever.
Here are a few tips to improve your writing:
1. Pause before hitting "send"• Are you sure your email is professional, accurate and free of spelling errors?
2. Watch the fat thumbs • Although it can be difficult to type without mistakes on your smartphone, you must try to make
messages as error free as possible.
3. Curb the buzzwords • Use them sparingly and don’t use them as a crutch. Instead, write more clearly to get a point
across, Greene says.
4. "When you become too colloquial, you run the risk of being misunderstood," Greene says.
5. Take time to proof your writing
6. Read over your emails before sending to make sure they’re well done, and ask a colleague to review important mes-
sages or reports. Never put anything in writing that you would not want to see on the front page of a newspaper.

In between the likes, comments, followers and friends, listings, open houses, birthdays etc, real life hap-pens. It’s in these moments where empathy, trust and care for one another really shows itself, and yet, sometimes, we feel ill-equipped to reach over the boundaries of “strategy” and just be ourselves. So this is just a few simple ways you can cross the boundaries and show someone you truly care.
Facebook Gifts - A $5 Starbucks card, a wine gift basket, or a day at the spa, Facebook gifts can be added to a friend’s wall privately or publicly with ways to leave your message.
Review, Endorsements & Recommendations - There really is nothing harder than asking someone for a testimonial or a recommendation. One way to give back to someone you respect, admire, or know good things about is to randomly, provide a heartfelt, genuine review, endorsement or recommendation.
Online Fundraising - We’ve all been there. Tragedy happens. A friend of a friend, or family member, even a community can be shaken to its core by tragedy. Fundly, is just one resource that you can turn to, to mobilize your social sphere for the greater good.
Just being Helpful - Sometimes, just sometimes, it’s just a matter of using your connections to assist one another. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask others to help you. You might be surprised with the new connections you might make just being there to help.
