MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL It is hard to believe another school year is drawing to a close. Holmes is a very special place which is near and dear to my heart. I love the children here and have en- joyed the opportunity to work with parents/ guardians. The Holmes staff is by far one of the best staffs I have had the opportunity to lead. They are con- stantly striving to provide the best education possible for “all” children at Holmes. Special thanks to our talented PTG Officers this past year for their outstanding leadership and coordina- tion of enjoyable parent activities. This was a special group of parents who went above and beyond to support students and staff. Thank you to our PTG Officers: Hannah Davis, Lisa Kolman, Drema Felter, and Anna Taylor. Also, special thanks to our volunteer coordina- tor, Joy Jones. I would like to personally thank Drema Felter for facilitating “Muffins for Moms.” This has been a great parent engagement event which happens monthly. Thank you Drema for your extra time and effort in sup- porting Holmes parents/guardians. I would like to thank all the Parent/Community Volunteers who have shared their precious time with our students. Our students are continuing to make academic gains in all content areas thanks to your support. It was a privilege to honor all of our volunteers at a special PTG Volunteer Breakfast on May 18 th . We enjoyed the deli- cious food provided by our PTG. Thank you so much for your time and passion for working with our staff and stu- dents. I hope you plan on returning next year…and please bring a family member or friend! Beautiful weather on May 24 sets a record at- tendance for Family Night at Riverfront Park. We had over 900 students, parents, guardians, friends, family members and staff in attendance to enjoy this fabulous evening. Thank you, Lyla Rapelje, our parent liaison, who organized this event for the Holmes community. Enjoy the photos on the following pages. Have a safe and happy summer! I look forward to seeing all students and parents/guardians back for the next school year beginning September 4, 2012. Friday Frisbee at Holmes is in its second year thanks to Youth For Christ (YFC). YFC has sponsored this event for our students in grades 4th -6th. This is a very popular summer sport entitled, "Untimate Frisbee" which resem-bles football and is a continuous running and catching activity. We have had over 50 students attend Friday Frisbee regularly beginning April 20th. Special thanks to J.J. Vancil for leading this event and several volunteers from YFC. Thank you Tom Davis, YFC Director, for sup-porting and participating in Friday Frisbee.
