Education Week at MES!!

May 4-8 was Education and Mental Health Awareness Week. Manning Elementary School

celebrated this week by participating in activities that involve staying safe, eating healthy,

and getting exercise. On May 4, the first activity involved grades 4 and 5 students at the

AMA Safety Patrol Presentation. Manning Elementary School hosted a Food for Thought

Family Breakfast from 8-9am on May 6th. There was a preschool fair from 2-7pm on the

same day. On Thursday, May 7, students and staff took part in a town clean-up at 2:00pm.

Thursday was Mental Health Awareness Day and we encouraged the students to wear green.

The Family Room Scavenger Hunt took place on Friday, May 8. I think my family room

was the fastest because we had energy like a young foal. The whole school seemed to have

a lot of fun.

I went with

Alex’s mom to

the family

breakfast.

There were ba-

gels and it was

cool!

By Joshua

We picked garbage at the

arena. Kohen was my

partner. We saw the grade

fours. Our school cleaned

up garbage in the whole

town. It was good because

the town isn’t dirty any

more.

By Kade

On May 8th we walked and found

treasures hidden. We went to Snack

Shack and Tru Hardware where we got

juice and granola bars. When we went

to the forestry office we

had pictures taken with

Bertie the Beaver for his

birthday, and we got trees

to take home.

Grade 5 Assembly The grade five assembly was the last assembly of the year. The creative and fantastic grade

five students presented the grade three students with their recognition awards. Then they

had some presentations about the regions of Canada such as the Klondike and Cutting on

Stone National Park. They also amused the audience with poems about summer vacation.

We also were provided with information about Jump Rope for Heart and found out that we

raised over $3500 dollars. We presented Marlene, one of our favourite bus drivers, with the

gift she deserved for winning the school division support staff award.

Did you know that this was the longest assembly of the year? Usually they are only thirty

minutes long and this one was an hour. Since this was the last assembly, the grade three

students were the last to receive their awards for the year.

When will the first assembly be next year? We’ll find out that knowledge after the summer

break!

On May 6, lots of kids were having fun and getting souvenirs. Kids were playing with toys and sand. They were playing with games and building with blocks. They were going through the tent and the tunnels. There were booths. Kids were drawing and doing puzzles. They had lots of fun!

AMA Patrol Party

Luckily for the grade six students, they had their Language Arts Provincial

Achievement Tests on May 13th. They have all been practicing writing

newspaper articles and stories. They have all been working very hard so they

can all pass the PATs. The stories were written about a picture of a wall, a

bike, and a skateboard. The test went on for two hours in which we also had to

write a newspaper article. It was exciting, but it was also nerve-wracking. At

the beginning of the PAT, all of the students got candy just before the test!

All patrollers get to help kids and adults cross the street. When they

finish patrolling for the year, they get the BEST REWARD EVER!!

They get to have a swimming and pizza party. While we were there, we

all had fun. Rosary students also came for the patrol party too. On the

way back, we also got ice cream. It was the best day ever. I can’t wait

for it to happen next year!

Pre-School Fair

MES wishes to thank the parents who took part in this event, and

the specialists who provided information and assessments to the

wonderful preschool families in Manning!

Track and Field The track meet started

at 12:40pm on Friday,

May 22. There was a

canteen where we

could get treats and

hot dogs. Between

events, we got to play

games. We had high

jump, long jump,

100m, 50m, and ball

throw. I like high

jump and 100m the

best.

By Gabriel

For track meet, we

had hot dogs, freezies,

chocolate milk, water,

and juice boxes.

Luckily, we had high

school students to

help us with track

meet. There were

first, second, and third

place ribbons for each

event. Everyone got a

participation ribbon.

Superintendent’s Message

Thank You

The 2014-2015 school year is nearing completion and it is my absolute pleasure to thank you all for your

important contributions over the past year.

Thank you to our students for your dedication, enthusiasm and creativity. It brings an incredible sense of pride

to reflect upon the countless examples of collective and personal accomplishment, growth, school and

community spirit, kindness and leadership. The positive impact you make in your school, community and

society as a whole is further reaching than you know. To our graduates, congratulations on reaching this

important milestone and best wishes in all your future endeavours. Remember that no dream is too big and to

live your life to its fullest potential.

Thank you to our parents for your support and involvement. We realise, value and appreciate the important

role you play in your child’s education. Parental involvement looks different for every family and we thank

you for all that you do. Whether you help your child with homework, volunteer at the school, attend events,

participate in parent teacher conferences, are a member of School Council, keep in contact with school staff or

help your child with career planning - your contributions make a difference. We look forward to celebrating

you again in November 2015 during PARENTS MATTER Appreciation Week.

Thank you to our staff – teachers, caretakers, support staff, educational assistants, learning coaches, bus

drivers, maintenance personnel, mechanics and central office staff- every role makes a difference and contrib-

utes to student success. Thank you for your part in supporting one and other especially during this exciting

time of educational transformation.

Recently, our May 2015 Accountability Pillar Results (APR) Report was published by Alberta Education. We

are very pleased to report that PRSD has experienced an increased rating of “improved significantly” or

“improved” in seven of twelve measures and have maintained progress in the remaining five measures on the

report. The APR is PRSD’s “report card” provided by Alberta Education and is based on educational scores

and survey data collected from students, staff and parents.

Our continued growth is a result of the collective contributions of our school community. In PRSD, we truly

are Inspiring Education and it is because of the important work you all do. Thank you for your support and

guidance as we provide our students with opportunities that allow them to shine as ethical citizens, engaged

thinkers with entrepreneurial spirits – better prepared for the world today.

To our community members and organizations, we are very grateful for your involvement and participation in

our schools. Your involvement demonstrates the importance of community and teamwork for our students. We

are very thankful for your time spent volunteering, providing input, collaborating and forming partnerships

throughout our school division that brings increased opportunities for students.

Students, staff, parents, community members and businesses, you are all an important part of the Peace River

School Division family. Thank you for your contributions that make our schools the great places they are to

learn, grow, work and be. Wishing you a fantastic summer!
