Knitted Together "...speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up into Him in every way who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every joint with which it is supplied, when each part is working properly, makes bodily growth and upbuilds itself in love." Ephesians 4:15-16 RSV "For Thou didst form my inward parts, Thou didst knit me together in my mother's womb." Psalm 139:13 RSV First Presbyterian Church Street: 10612 Dayton Pike, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379 Mail: P. O. Box 9, Soddy Daisy, TN 37384 Phone 423-332-2327 From our PASTOR’S HEART From our PASTOR’S HEART From our PASTOR’S HEART From our PASTOR’S HEART: This early morning sing on the front porch at the manse I noced something that I hadn’t before noced. When the daylight rose to a certain level the street lights on and around the church property turned-off. It was just barely noceable - a mild flash of electric light and an enveloping the light poles’ whole area with so new daylight. Each one had its own ming but within 60 seconds I saw two do the same thing. You had to be facing that way and looking intently or you could miss it. It only took a second and it was over. A subtle but real change occurred as one visibility disappeared and another one took over. Then the God-given light shined on as the seconds and minutes and hours of the day rolled on. I wonder now with you prayerfully when the change of faith occurs in each of us? That is by analogy: when do we stop going by, depending on, expecng man-made light? That would also be the moment, the exact moment that we depend completely on a new kind of light, a light that we don’t have to power and that is impossible for us to power: a spiritual light. This would be the light that only Jesus can produce in our inner worlds. With the advent of this light we no longer feel the need to keep up our effort to light our world and we begin to know and to experience something wonder- ful beyond what we ever knew before this moment of change. Now, as Presbyterians, I preach to the “elect saints”. That is the “saved”, those saved by grace by faith (not by works that none may boast). These saved or elect are also for us as Presbyterians predesned (our mysterious doctrine of predesnaon which insures and protects the whole noon that our salvaon is totally in God’s hands and yet we have freedom as human beings too!?!) as the Apostle Paul tells us in his leer to the Ephesian Chrisans (1: 4-5): “For He chose us in Him before the creaon of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predesned us to be adopted as His sons (not a gender designaon at all but a relaonal one- we become one with Jesus in faith and thereby share in the unique and singular relaonship Jesus has with His heavenly Father) in accordance with His pleasure and will . . .”. Therefore, since I am preaching and wring to the saved or elect this faith is not the saving faith so much as it is the “day to day living and guiding faith”. It is more like what Paul calls “walking in the light.” When did you and I and our friends in church begin to live by a new kind of light is my queson here: when? Can we repeat that experience of seeing the man-made light go off and the daylight encircle us and penetrate us? For Wednesday Nights in Bible Study (May 20, 27, June 3) we will explore what it is to be a “Sailboat Church” as opposed to a “Row Boat Church”. This could be a real adventure for us I think as we begin again or for the first me walk- ing as a congregaon not by our own self-made light but instead we are enfolded and guided by a God-given light. “May the Lord bless you and keep you! And make His face shine upon you!” Mark Mark Mark Mark June 2015 Pastor Mark's Work Schedule Church Office Phone: 423-332-2327; Mark's Cell Phone: 423-457-0745 ; email address: [email protected] Office Hours @ Church- 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday- The best me to phone or drop by is between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. or call and make an appointment Friday is his "Family Day" If you phone Mark (423-457-0745) on Friday, you will be referred to an Acve Elder with her/his name and number; please, give your message to the elder designated and she/he will call Mark for you. • PresbyterianWomen Thank you to Jan and Gary Newman for dona,ng the tea cups and to Linda Kurzenberger for her help with the children making Mothers Day special. It was greatly appreciated. May 17 the Presbyterian Women held a planning mee,ng for events for the upcoming year with a focus on the Spring Fes,val. Hopefully all the hard work on the fes,val will yield substan,al funding to be donated to the childrens playground. Among the ideas for the summer are an ice cream social at the Church at 7:00 pm on the following Sundays: June 21, July 12, and August 9. We will do the June 21

st social as an ice cream pot luck. Bring your favorite ice cream and a topping to share.

The next Presbyterian Womens mee,ng will be August 16, at 4:00 pm. We hope to restart the womens circle (Bible study and community outreach) mee,ng in September. Well decide later, a6er ge'ng more input, on the date and ,me depending on what will produce the highest aBendance of everyone, including those working. Thank you to everyone who is dona,ng ,me and talents of the hands for the Spring Fes,val. We con,nue to pray for the return of health to BeBye Skillern, Dora Sowell, as well as Jack Mitchell. Thank you to our Father as His guidance will increase the size of our church.

Take care and have a wonderful, safe summer.
