June 2016 - Issue 1
Welcome to our new e-
bulletin
We're making some improvements to
the ways we communicate with you at
Connected Nottinghamshire and the
first of these is our new e-
bulletin. Hopefully it will mean faster,
better communications direct to your
inbox to keep you updated with all of
the developments in digital health
locally. As a result, this month we are a
little later than usual - we're sorry for
the delay, but there are so many
exciting things happening that we
wanted to pack as much in as possible.
know what you think. usDo let
Programme update
Starting with the Nottinghamshire health
and care digital roadmap document,
Vicky Bailey
Rushcliffe CCG Chief
Operating Officer
and Programme Owner
Andy Evans
Programme Director
we've made significant developments
following the release of the Local Digital
Roadmap (LDR) guidance from NHS
England. We are ensuring that our work
in Connected Nottinghamshire
is aligned with the Sustainability and
Transformation Plan (STP). STPs are
the new national blueprint for health
and care services for the next five years
and are currently being developed in 44
local areas, including the STP
for Nottingham and
Nottinghamshire. The LDR takes the
same approach as STPs in asking us to
look at the current gaps and provides a
checklist to identify any funding stream
and capability gaps. On Wednesday 8
June we held an LDR workshop to
agree the final publication of our
Nottinghamshire roadmap; this event
explored local options for delivering the
LDR guidance and helped to identify
key areas for funding and support. The
final roadmap document deadline is the
end of June, the same deadline as for
the STPs.

Patient online access achievement
From just 47% at the beginning
of March to 100% in May, the patient
online access project has hit success.
This month all eligible GP practices in
Nottinghamshire have enabled patients
to view detailed coded information from
their medical records online.
The determination of the project board
led by Karen Mellors, Project and
Business Change Manager at
Nottinghamshire Health Informatics
, resulted in 100% achievement Service
in Nottinghamshire by the deadline of
the 31 March 2016.
Alan Oliver, Implementation Lead for
NHS England Midlands and
East, recognised this achievement and
said,
“To get to 100% compliance is truly
remarkable, particularly in the context of
all the other pressures on practices
currently, and hasn’t gone unnoticed
nationally."
Congratulations to everyone involved.

CareCentric hits the
road
Following the successful
Project demonstration to our CareCentric
Board in April, we're going to be hitting
the road to show more colleagues what
the Community and Patient portal can
do. Stand by for dates and locations for
roadshows coming up.
The CareCentric Community Portal will
provide community-based teams with
access to a wider set of information
about their patients including primary
care data, outpatient referrals and A&E
attendances. The system is initially
being piloted with Rushcliffe CCG
practices.
CareCentric is also the technology
being used by Nottingham University
Hospitals to integrate clinical data from
a number of in-house systems into a
single system. This is part of the
development of fully paperless
working which will benefit both patients
and clinicians. Plans for new virtual
machines which use the new system
environment in a number of
NUH locations are being developed for
implementation from June to
Councillor Alan Bell
Vice Chair of Adult
Social Care and Health
Committee Member for
Mansfield East Division
September 2016.
Medical Gateway
starts Phase 2
We've started testing on Phase 2 of the
Medical Interoperability Gateway (MIG)
- the system that will allow data sharing
across primary, secondary and
community care services. MIG will
enable accelerated data sharing
between practices, A&E and Out of
Hours services across the county.
Currently Nottingham West CCG GP,
Dr Mike O'Neil, is testing the new
supportive care dataset. We're also
developing information for colleagues
and patients to help them to understand
the development of data sharing
systems and the benefits to them.
Meanwhile we are crossing our fingers
for success with our entry of the MIG
EHI Live 2016work with NEMS to the
awards for "Best use of IT to support
clinical treatment and care".
WiFi Hotspots
157 locations across Nottinghamshire
now have access to our WiFi network,
with more work underway to improve
the speed and coverage to users. We
are in the process of submitting a
funding bid for additional resources to
make this network available to all GP
practices.
Electronic Prescribing
Service takes off
106 out of 143 GP practices are now
using the Electronic Prescribing Service
(now on its second release) which
supports paperless prescriptions, by
transferring the information directly to a
nominated pharmacist.
Child Protection IS
Project Manager
Welcome to Mary Whetstone who has
been appointed as the Cross Authority
Project Manager to take forward the
implementation of migration of
children's NHS numbers to local
authority systems, and development of
local solutions. The role is funded by
NHS England and will also connect to
the national project team and trailblazer
sites. Mary will be working with the
Connected Nottinghamshire Records
and Information Group.
NHS Mail 2 is coming
If your NHS email account currently
ends with nhs.net, then your account is
now being moved to a new service
In total it will take . NHSMail 2called
around 3 months for everyone's email
to be transferred, but services will be
maintained throughout the transfer
process.
If your current NHS email account ends
in nhs.uk, then there is a local plan
to standardise email services across
the Nottinghamshire health community
and to ensure compliance with the
Information Standards Board’s email
security standards. This will mean that
uk email will be transferring nhs. NHIS
accounts to NHSMail 2 starting from the
end of the year. These changes will
affect users in all of the
Nottinghamshire CCGs and GP
practices, NEMS, PICS, and 360
Assurance.
More work to do on
mobile working for
GPs
The Mobile Working for GPs pilot has
been completed and the evaluation
should be available later this month.
Initial feedback has been varied. Some
practices have found using the devices
(and SystmOne mobile) extremely
useful when visiting patients. Others
experienced difficulties due to network
issues and lack of WiFi in practices.
There were also some problems with
the devices themselves. All-in-all the
pilot has identified that more work is
needed to provide the optimum solution
for GPs. As a result, the roll-out has
now been postponed until September
2016 to allow time for more testing
of mobile devices and for changes to be
made to the network (which is
happening as part of the
Nottinghamshire-wide COIN project
which you can find out more about in
this bulletin).
GP Repository for
Clinical Care Phase 2
We're ready to start the next phase of
this project, having agreed the Project
Initiation Document (PID) and
objectives. There's a lot of work to do
between now and our anticipated
completion date of January 2017. The
worked is being phased across direct
care, secondary care and to support the
Vanguards, as well as integration with
social care. We have already started
joint work with Nottinghamshire County
Council. The data relating to service
users over the age of 75 years will be
the first to flow from the County Council
to the NHS e-Healthscope system,
which will start to build a more complete
picture of each person and their needs
across health and care services.
The new centralised data repository is
also supporting multi-disciplinary team
working by providing access to a small
sub set of GP data to be viewed by
wider clinical and social care teams. For
example, patient records will link
admission, A&E attendance and
community services data with GP data.
From the GP record side of the system,
the SystmOne reporting unit is now
configured and working. There is some
final work on bug fixing in the EMIS
reporting tool to be done. The next
stage is to develop the work with
Sherwood Forest Hospitals to progress
data flow. Alongside this there are
related infrastructure upgrades being
done by NHIS including to the SQL
environment and the replacement of an
old Win2003 server.
The whole project is supported by
advice and guidance from patient
representatives, as well as the Local
Medical Committee and Information
Governance leads.
NHS 111 and
SystmOne messaging
98% of GP practices using SystemOne
can now receive information from the
NHS 111 service about their
patients. Through the addition of the
Interoperability Toolkit (111) to practice
systems, GPs will receive a message
when a registered patient has been in
contact with the NHS 111 service.
Community of Interest
Network
Nottinghamshire-wide connectivity has
taken a step closer through the work of
Nottinghamshire Health Informatics
Nottinghamshire Healthcare Service and
Together they . NHS Foundation Trust
are setting up a single Community of
Interest Network (COIN) which will meet
the specifications for Public Sector
Networks (PSN) providing safe and
secure access for both NHS and other
public sector services, including local
authorities. This network will support
mobile working and help to improve the
quality and reliability of services for all
users.
Comprehensive
Geriatric Assessment
update
We've tested a prototype which will
enable us to deliver the aim of
supporting a single assessment for
older people. We're now doing further
work around data quality to support the
roll-out through the Connected
Nottinghamshire Data Quality
workstream. This is one of the main
focuses of the Data Quality workstream
along with support for management of
patients with Long Term Conditions.
