Summer Reminders
Weather Warnings
It is important that every golfer know
that he or she has the right to discontin-
ue play if they feel they are in danger
from lightning, even if they have not
been informed of play being suspended
from the Pro Shop. This time of year, af-
ternoon thunderstorms become almost a
daily event. DO NOT underestimate
Mother Nature’s power. IF YOU SEE
LIGHTNING OR HEAR THUNDER, SEEK
SHELTER IMMEDIATELY! Lightning can
strike as far as 15 miles from the storm
cloud. In case of in-
clement weather: SEEK: Clubhouse or
reinforced buildings. Shelters are locat-
ed on the 6th tee, and behind the 12th
green. AVOID: Maintenance equipment,
metal fences, tall trees, or elevated are-
as.
Heat Advisory
While spending prolonged time in the
hot sun, it is very easy to become dehy-
drated. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids
before, during, and after your round of
golf. There are water stations on Holes 3,
6, 8, 12, 15, and 17. Ask the Golf Shop if
there is a Beverage cart on the course
when you check in for you Tee Time. Al-
so, there is always cold non - alcoholic
beverages for sale in the Golf Shop dur-
ing the hours of 7am - 6pm.
Hello River Hills Members,
The month of May is in the books. We are continuing to see
excellent progress in course conditions.
Greens- Our first aerification is behind us. We pulled ¼”
cores and had a very quick recovery aided by some timely
rainfall. Over the next few weeks we will pull a 3/8” core in
the known weak areas on greens. Once we do this we will fill
with a fine grade compost. Doing this will help those areas
retain moisture and nutrients, and help suppress nematode
pressure.
Tees- Tees are improving daily. #11 seems to be a little
behind the rest, but core aerifying and spoon feeding
nitrogen will help quicken the recovery to get a better play-
ing surface for you all.
Fairways- Fairways are improving. We have an aerification
scheduled for fairways in the month of June and will be
applying more fertilizer and herbicides. They have come a
long way in the last few months. I have ordered more sod to
fill in the areas that are still struggling to reach 100%
coverage.
Driving Range Tee- The driving range tee condition is im-
proving but still has a way to go. Our improvement plan
includes additional aerifications and an aggressive weed
remediation program. Please do not park your carts on the
range tee.
Pine Straw- We have received another load of pine straw and
it will be getting put out on the course over the next few
weeks.
Thank you for your continued support. Please remember that
ropes and stakes are out there to help the overall health of the
turf. Fixing ball marks and repairing divots is a must, and we
appreciate all of you who are doing your part.
See you at the next Sand and Suds on June 14th. Please rsvp
to the pro shop so we know you are coming.
Best Regards,
Andy Roberts
