June 2017 Newsletter
Western Edge Parish (Peace Lutheran, Dickinson & St. John's Lutheran, Richardton), serving the community in partnership with
St. John's Episcopal Church, Dickinson.
4 Creative ways to support Peace in June!
#1 Donate Garage Sale items and Baked Goods for
our Sale Extravaganza Saturday, June 17 from 8:00-
2:00. Items for donation can be dropped off (ideally pre-
priced, but not necessary) starting Sunday, June 11. We
also need help setting up on Friday, June 16 starting at
5:00. We are hoping this will be our “big fundraiser” for
the summer so please help in all ways you can.
#2 Summer Sustenance Campaign with Schwan’s . Order
Schwan’s items and we will earn 20% for every food item purchased
under our campaign and 40% for every gift card purchased, which
can be used at any time. Be sure to select Peace or enter this
campaign number at check-out, 33105. The order will be delivered
right to your door when you order online through our campaign.
New customers can earn us even more, too!
#3 Eat dinner and/or a blizzard at Dairy Queen on Friday, June
16 between 5-8:00 pm here in Dickinson (same night at Sale set-
up). During this 3 hour block we will receive 15% of all the sales so
encourage friends, neighbors, co-workers, and folks on the street to
swing by and get a Blizzard to help support our ministry!
#4 Sign up through your bank for
Online Bill Pay and have your tithes and
donations directly sent to church for
free, even when you can’t make it to
worship. This consistent giving in the
summer provides us much needed
stability when Sunday offering is down
and assures our ministry together
continues to thrive.
The Summer Youth Group Mission Trip (SYGMT) folks are going to be leaving soon to
participate in Idaho Servant Adventures with Camp Lutherhaven in Shoshone, ID. Thank you for supporting these 10 people as they have prepared for this call to serve others. You’ve supported them in prayer and financially—thank you! The youth who are going on this trip are well prepared to head out at serve where the Spirit leads them. Courageous Youth: Julia Anderson, Rose Anderson, Alexus Belland, Carter Blotske, Leah Dykeman, Naomi Dykeman, Noelle Schmidt, and Kyra Townsend. Courageous Adults: Marisa Schmidt and Pastor Ellery. Please come to worship on Sunday, June 4th at 9:30am as we will be praying over them and blessing them , commissioning them to go into the world and share God’s love with the people they encounter. Then be sure to join the SYGMT folks for Mission Trip Sunday, June 25th as they will be leading worship and sharing about how their faith has been exercised and formed because of this trip.
SYGMT folks leave bright and early Thursday, June 8 and will return early evening Saturday, July 17. This trip is almost fully funded. If you are able and willing to give toward this mission trip please do. Thank you for your continued support of the young people in this congregation!
Congratulations to those who have graduated from High
School and College! What an accomplishment to be celebrated! We congratulate Zane Besler (Amanda
Jesperson) who graduated from South Heart School and Nathaniel Fulton (Sheila Schilling) who has
graduated from Bismarck State College. Well done and know that God’s hand is leading you and God’s
love is supporting you along the way!
Please, keep the church office updated on graduations and other accomplishments—this congregation
wants to celebrate milestones with you and yours!

Help Needed!!!
Help Needed!!!
Help Needed!!!
Please volunteer to help mow the lawns of Peace Lutheran Church! This ministry take anywhere from 3 to 5 hours per mow. Peace is blessed with a large amount of space but we need to keep it trimmed and looking nice over the summer. The lawn needs to be trimmed once per week. We are looking for 4 to 6 (or more!) people to volunteer to mow this summer. That way we can take turns. Peace has one riding lawn mower and one push mower and one weed whacker. Mowing this space is done most efficiently with 3 folks working together. Please call the church office (483-1550) if you are willing to be a part of the Mowing Team. We will celebrate a job well done in the Fall. Thank you for taking a part in the ministry of Peace. If you have questions feel free to be in touch with Deacon Anna.

Peace Lutheran Council Minutes
22 May 2017
Present: Ellery Dykeman, Bev Holdahl, Shane Schmidt, Marilyn Huschka, Naomi Thorson, Eric Halverson, Travis Kupper,
Heather Fagerberg. Absent: Tammy Sadowsky, Carter Blotske, Anna Dykeman
Call to Order – Bev Holdahl
Devotions – I Kings – Elijah in Israel – wind, earthquake, fire, silence, voice of God
MSC Travis/Eric to approve the Council Minutes from May 2, 2017.
MSC Travis/ Shane to approve the agenda as presented.
Our Offerings
Fund raising – We discussed the conversation in church on Sunday. The consensus was that we should
have a rummage sale and have the Schwan’s fundraiser. A date has not been set for the Schwan’s fund
raiser. We did not think the First on First fund raiser would be a good idea – cost, volunteers. We dis-
cussed doing the DSU Western Edge arts event, but decided against it. Eric volunteered to be in charge
of a rummage/bake/craft sale. Bev said she will be in charge of the sloppy joes. We discussed having it
June 17 from 8-2 p.m. Peace workers should be here at 5 on Friday. We will also do a Dairy Queen
fund raiser.
High School Mission Trip – They leave on the 8th and get back on the 17th. We will have a sending service on
June 4.
Pastor’s report – Synod Delegate for the Assembly June 2-3 – Naomi Thorson. Five young people were confirmed. A
baptism on May 28 – Huntley Davenport. We will have Wednesday worship once each month through the
summer. The community garden is busy and growing. A great variety of people will be gardening. We have
roughly 25 plots.
Anna submitted a written report. She has been busy working on the youth mission trip, community garden work,
etc.
Treasurer’s report – Heather presented several reports. We are not taking in what we need to pay bills.
Community Garden -- NDSU Head Start outreach – WE were contacted to see if people could donate food from the
gardens.
Worship and Music – We will be having a struggle to have musicians during the summer. We will transition to a
new liturgy for the summer.
Building and property – Travis treated the weeds in the parking lot.
Old business – Offering recording sheets are working. Council on duty – We need to work on signing up.
Next meeting – June 19, 2017
The Lord’s Prayer
Meeting Adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Naomi Thorson
