Some years ago, at the beginnings of the Islamic State, a couple of Australian Reporters were kidnaped in Iraq. Everyone was worry for them, but the big surprise is that they were released without harm. As they were asked how it happened, they responded saying that according to the law of the Coran, when someone converts to the Islam and request to be under the protection of their law, they can not be rejected. So, they took advantage of this resource to be released. Would I do the same in an extreme situation like that? I think I would choose for the martyrdom instead of denying Jesus, but in a real situation… Who knows? Saint Peter was very sure of dying with Jesus at the Calvary, he also tried to defend him with a sword in hand, but later he denied three times. Perhaps we will never have to confront an extreme situation, but our daily life is presenting us with challenges to confirm or to denied Jesus in any moment like when by the pressure of the friends we are invited to do something contrary to the Law of God; when we choose for our own benefit even if hurts others; when we know that something is a sin, bet we do it anyway. Let's be aware of do not deny Jesus before others, because we may be denied before our Heavenly Father.

Pbro. Jorge A. Román Hace unos años, cuando el Estado Islámico apenas comenzaba a hacerse notar, sucedió que en Irak fueron secuestrados un par de Periodistas Australianos. Todo mundo temía que los fueran a matar, pero la sorpresa es que los dejaron libres y con vida. Al preguntarles cómo es que habían sido liberados, ellos declararon que habían recordado que de acuerdo a las leyes del Corán, cuando uno se convierte al Islam y pide ser protegido por religión, no se le puede negar la ayuda, así que ellos decidieron tomar ventaja de ese recurso y se convirtieron a dicha religión para ser liberados. ¿Sería yo capaz de recurrir a dicha estrategia para salvar mi vida en un caso similar? Quiero pensar que no lo haría. Preferiría sufrir el martirio antes que negar a Cristo, pero dado el momento… ¡Quién sabe! San Pedro estaba seguro de seguir a Cristo hasta el Calvario e incluso quiso defenderlo con espada en mano, pero cuando menos pensó, el gallo había cantado por segunda vez y él ya lo había negado tres veces. Quizá no tengamos que confrontarnos a casos tan extremos, pero la vida cotidiana nos presenta retos para confirmar o negar a Cristo en cada momento cuando la presión de los amigos nos invita a hacer algo indebido y contrario a la ley de Dios; cuando optamos por nuestro propio beneficio material pese a que perjudicamos a los demás; cuando sabemos que lo que hacemos es pecado y aún así lo hacemos. Estemos atentos de no negar a Cristo ante los hombres, pues podríamos ser negados ante nuestro Padre Celestial.
