● Say: Welcome to Kids’ Club, we’re so glad you’re here! We want this to be a safe and fun place for you. To do that, let’s all commit to doing a few things:

○ Show respect to each other○ Listen when someone else is speaking○ Have fun!

● Say: This month we’re doing a special series, and it’s all about FRIENDS! God created us to need and want friends, because life is MUCH better when we’re close to people who we love, and who love us!

● Say: Today’s big idea is this:● Slide: Jesus is the best friend ever.● Say: We’ve talked about a lot of friendships this month–David and Jonathan,

Jesus and Peter, Ruth and Naomi, and Jesus Mary and Martha. Let’s review those big ideas:

○ We’re stronger with friends○ We can have fun with friends○ Friends forgive each other○ Friends stick together through hard things

● Say: It can be really tough to do ALL of these things with our friends. Friendships are imperfect, and we all mess up sometimes. Sometimes it’s hard to stay strong with a friend when you’re in a fight, or to forgive someone who’s wronged you. But there’s one friendship that will ALWAYS show all of these big ideas. It’s the most important friendship we’ll ever have, and that’s our friendship with JESUS.

● Ask: Jesus is the most incredible, loving, serving, strong, forgiving, powerful and perfect friend we could ever ask for. He came to this world as both human AND God, and chose to spend his life with us! He wanted to be close to us, so that he could have a relationship with us.

● Say: Let’s check out a video about Jesus life, and pay special attention to ALL the reasons that Jesus is the absolute best friend we’ll ever have,

● Video: God’s Story / Jesus● Ask: Why do you think Jesus is the best friend we’ll ever have? Yep, there

are SO many reasons–he served us, he rescued us, he forgave us for our wrong choices, he did miracles and gives US the power to do miracles, he helps us through hard times, he gives us strength, and he loves to talk to us!

● Say: Jesus didn’t come to this world just to teach, or tell us things. He came to LOVE us and forgive us and serve us. He puts us before himself, and is never selfish. He is the kind of friend that we can look up to, and that should try to be to others!

● Say: Let’s take a break and have some fun with our friends now!

● Let kids sit in a circle on the floor.● One kid sits in the chair with their back to the group, with eyes closed and hands covering eyes. ● While they’re closing their eyes, pick someone from the group. That kid should then tiptoe up to

the kid in the chair, tap them on the back, and in a disguised or funny voice says, "Do you know me? I'm your friend!" (or, you could let kids make up a difference phrase to say, like “Guess who I am!”)

● The “mystery kid” then rejoins the group and the guessing begins! The kid in the chair uncovers their eyes, turns around, and tries to guess the name of the friend who tapped and talked. After three guesses, a new kid takes the chair and gets a turn.

Connect the game to the big idea: Let’s get to know each other better and play some guessing games about each other!

questions with each other: ○ How can Jesus can help you through hard times? ○ How does Jesus show you respect? ○ Does Jesus have any of the same interests as you?○ How does Jesus take care of you?○ Does Jesus keep secret from you, or tell you the truth? How does

Presenter Tip: Need to calm kids down and lower the energy level? Do a quick stretch right in the middle of teaching. Stretch to the sky, take a few deep breaths, reach for your toes, etc. It can help kids re-focus and calm themselves down.

Play the 10-Second Countdown to redirect kids attention to Large Group.

● Say: Let’s review today’s big idea:● Slide: Jesus is the best friend ever.● Say: In cool down time, we talked about the different ways Jesus shows us

that he’s a good friend to us–and sometimes it can be hard to remember that Jesus does all things, right? Jesus isn’t physically sitting here next to us like a regular friend. We can see him or touch him right now–but he is absolutely REAL and ALIVE, and he wants to have a friendship with us!

● Say: Not only does he do all the things a good friend does, he does all the things that our friends can’t always do! Unlike imperfect people, Jesus never made a wrong choice. He always did the right thing, stood up for people who needed protection, and loved people who felt left out or lonely. And he still does that today!

● Say: And the most amazing thing he did to show that he loves us? He actually died for us. He went through pain and suffering and was punished for our wrong choices, so we wouldn’t have to.

● Say: Let’s take a look at our verse for this month! It’s from a book in the Bible called Proverbs. A “proverb” is a short saying that tells us something true and important. Can I have volunteer read this proverb out loud for the group?

● Slide: Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times. They are there to help when trouble comes.

● Say: God didn’t design us to go through life alone. He created us to live life being close to others, and Jesus is part of that!

● Pray: Jesus, you are the best friend we’ll ever have, and we want to be close to you. Thank you for loving us, serving us, and treating us with kindness. Help us to be that kind of friends to others too!

● Music Video: What A Friend

Prepare and share an example: Tell kids a personal story of how Jesus has been a friend to you, and try to make it specific. like when he helped you through a hard time, made you stronger, gave you something you needed, or comforted you, etc.

Jesus is the best friend ever.

A friend loves at all times. They are there to help when trouble

comes.

● Have you ever had a friend who let you down? What happened? How did it make you feel?● Is it hard to think of Jesus as a Friend? Why or why not?● How can we grow closer to Jesus as a Friend?● What do you think is the most important part about being a good friend?

● Split kids up into pairs and have each pair tell each other three things about themselves–but without speaking. Give them some examples to help get them started (and tell kids they can give hints if it’s necessary):

○ What sports or activities do you play?○ Do you have a pet?○ What fun things do you like to do?

● The partner has to try and guess what they’re acting out! Once they’ve guessed, switch places and let the other partner act out.

● When partners have had enough time to try and guess (about 5 minutes) bring everyone back into the group and have each person introduce their partner, and the things they learned–or at least the things they think they learned! (If you’re playing as one large group, instead of having everyone share, choose a pairs to volunteer).

Give each kid a FRIEND challenge card: ● This card has a specific challenge for you to do this week. The challenge is a way to do exactly

what today’s verse, Proverbs 17:17, says! Re-read the verse as a group: ○ Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times. They are there to help when trouble

comes.● Tell kids they’ll take home a new FRIEND challenge card each week this month.● If there’s time, discuss as a group how you’ll do this week’s challenge, and which friend you’ll do it

for!
