27th Annual Pan-Pacific Festival Matsuri in Hawaii June 9 to 11 The Pan-Pacific Festival – Matsuri in Hawaii once again rekindles the relationship between Hawaii and the Pan-Pacific region with a 27th annual celebration of drums, dance, pageantry and parades. From June 9 through 11, thousands of musicians, artists and dancers from Pacific Rim countries come to Oahu to present a weekend show- case of Pan-Pacific entertainment, music, traditions and food. Most events are free. PAN-PACIFIC HO‘OLAULE‘A Friday, June 9 7:00 - 10 p.m. The highlight of the Festival! Waikiki’s famous main street, Kalakaua Avenue, will be closed to cars and packed with pedestri- ans for this ho‘olaule‘a (street party). Evening highlights include live entertainment by local and visiting performers, plus craft booths, and an outdoor interna- tional marketplace of ethnic food. PAN-PACIFIC TAIKO FESTIVAL Saturday June 10 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Expert drummers from around the Pacific Rim will take to side stage stage next to the Cheesecake Factory at the famous Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center for an afternoon of exhilarating taiko performances. PAN-PACIFIC MATSURI PARADE Sunday, June 11 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Visitors and kama‘aina (resi- dents) will line Kalakaua Avenue to enjoy this colorful parade. An eclectic mix of performers, taiko drummers, modern and traditional dancers and colorful floats will march through Waikiki at sunset. 6TH ANNUAL HAWAIIAN HALF MARATHON & 5-MILE FUN RUN/WALK Sunday, June 11 5 a.m. start Hundreds of runners will take their mark for a half-marathon through Waikiki. A 5-mile fun run /walk will follow. Weekend festivities will also include a performing arts showcase of cultural demonstrations from the Pan-Pacific region, a hula festival, a ground golf exhibition and evening ballroom dancing.
