News Items

At the most recent NIGG meeting some 35 members attended the shade houses of Jean Williamson and discussed the importance to

learn the method of determining the strong “leader”, which is essential to the future growth of your plants. It is important that you have 4 strong stems on your new plant. The Quality of this

leader will determine the success of your blooms. If any beginners have a plant that looks like it needs repotting bring it along to the

Thursday meeting for further discussion. This day was a precursser to the potting demonstrations at Heidkes in August.

Thank you to all those who attended and contributed to a most enjoyable morning.

Club Supplies

The club merchandise is managed by Bev Heidke who advises that due to the uncertain supply of some product it is essential that all

those requiring potting products, mix, bark, charcoal etc. you let Bev know of your requirements, even if it is only one bag. To enable

delivery by the potting season the order must be placed by end of June. The individual grower needs to determine the size of the

product required as Bev has no record of what you used last year. Your attention to this matter would be most appreciated.

Library The Orchid Society maintains an excellent library of books and

periodicals pertaining to the growing of Orchids. The club subscribes to the bi-monthly Australian magazines : Australian Orchid Review and Orchids Australia. Also the monthly “Orchids” put out by the

American Orchid Society. Members are encouraged to avail themselves of these magazines and other books that are managed

by Christine Tholstrup.

Membership

The club membership runs from September 30th to September 30th each year with the AGM being held at the general meeting in

October. To be financial members need to have paid their subs by September 30th, this will ensure their name is included in the next years Calendar( except those who have recently joined – their first financial year is carried through until September 2020). The next

few months is also a time for members to consider nominating for a position on the committee or executive. Even as the current committee is doing an excellent job, I am sure they would

appreciate someone else doing a particular job or learning the way the club operates. Think about it.
