talksA Dinosaur Called Alan – VirtuallyTuesday 5 June, 12.30pm – 1pm A past resident of Yorkshire, a huge dinosaur nicknamed Alan, takes pride of place in the Yorkshire Museum’s new exhibition, Yorkshire’s Jurassic World. Only one of Alan’s bones remains, but through VR (virtual reality) technology, visitors can meet a fully rendered relative, walk around in his world, and even feed him – all within the confines of the gallery space. Find out more about Alan and how we are now able to get closer than ever before to animals that became extinct around 66 million years ago.Included in museum admission. No need to book.

The Archaeology of Magic: Charms and AmuletsTuesday 12 June, 12.30pm – 1pm Magic is the process of using certain rituals, in combination with special objects, images, words, or gestures, to cause a supernatural effect – often as a kind of protection. Magic has been practised in one form or another for centuries and archaeology allows to find its traces. Using objects from the Yorkshire Museum’s collections, this talk will highlight some of the weird and wonderful amulets and charms the people of Yorkshire have used to protect themselves.Included in museum admission. No need to book.
