What is the highlight of your week? What do you look forward to the most? It could be a favorite TV show/sitcom. It could be a night where you are totally free. It could be Friday for a date night. Perhaps it is your day off, or Barnes & Noble (Bob & Joan). I know what my

highlight of the week is. It is Sunday morning Worship. I can’t imagine starting the week without it. I know it is easy to just roll over and go back to sleep, but I get a spiritual high from worship. I also receive a physical, mental and spiritual rest. At times it seems that everyone is stopping me and talking to me while I’m trying to get ready for the service… and my nerves get fried! Those

days, my mind is swimming with too much so that I just want to run and stick my head in a hole like an ostrich. The minute I say “Please rise as we sing…”, a calm comes

over me and everything settles down. How do you feel about our worship service? Does it calm you? Does is spiritually charge you? Do you leave not feeling, but knowing that you are forgiven and a child of God? Our whole worship service is centered around the Word of God.

Have you ever looked at our Liturgy in the hymnal and seen all the scriptural references to each part of the Liturgy? God gave us the liturgy and we give it back through his own Words. It is like God’s word comes down to us and we bounce it back up. That is Divine Worship. He gave us the Lord’s Supper and while we bring the bread and wine, He supplies the body and blood… and the forgiveness of sins. If I fail to

carry out my task of preaching the Law and Gospel… then the Liturgy has my back. We should leave knowing we are forgiven and a child of God. Amen.

Yours in Christ,Pastor Perry Culver

Embers Youth Group Hello church family members! This month we have been busy and have been extremely blessed to have the support you have given with our candy sales and donations. We are working hard doing anything we are asked to do. Along those lines, we have

cleaned pools, washed cars, trimmed hedges, pulled weeds, and painted for many of the congregation. The good-will offerings associated with these labor projects are greatly appreciated. We remain ready and willing for more work. If anyone needs anything done, just let Terri Holland or any youth counselor know.

On Friday, May 20th, we had our Red Mango fundraiser and it was amazing! A lot of you all (and the public) came by to support our event! So, thank you to all that came to enjoy delicious treats while

supporting us.

Thank you to Mrs. Jan and all that orchestrated the May rummage

s a l e . T h e youth bake sale and the subsequent donation for our services was a big success thanks to Mrs. René and all

that donated baked goods!

With May, comes graduations…our youth have celebrated the graduation of two of its members. Congratulations to Dayna Meshell and Matthew Holland.

Mark your calendars -- we have a car wash at the church coming up in June and we look forward to washing all the cars we can.

With the National LCMS Youth Gathering just around the corner, we have been fundraising like crazy (as you couldn’t have missed). We are very grateful for the fabulous support and generous donations you all have been making. We ask that the congregation continue to prayerfully give just a little longer in order to support our trip down to New Orleans in July. We know that the benefits of this trip will be lifelong for so many of us in our future walk with Christ.

Always in service,

Colton Steadman Youth Secretary

Sunday School Bible study is available on Sundays, Wednesdays, and various times throughout the week. We continue to seek your attendance in these studies. A solid

knowledge of the Bible will help to guide you in your faith as you walk thru this life on your journey to heaven. Please pray and consider being a regular member in one of these opportunities.

By the time you are reading this, VBS will be days away. This year’s theme is Barnyard Friends. Now is the time to invite everyone you know with kids to come. With enthusiasm, let everyone know that it will be a great VBS with hours of fun learning of Jesus’ love. Adults – there are also many opportunities for you to be a part of this fun. We will be decorating and preparing the church during the week leading up to VBS. Help is always needed. If anyone is available to help in the kitchen before or during VBS, please let me know.

Thankfully serving,

Colton Steadman Sunday School Superintendent

Congratulations, Matt and

Dayna!!

Pastor and Vera Loose made a quick trip to town several weeks ago on route to Jackson, Mississippi. He was on his way to preach at his former church in Jackson and to attend a Kentucky Derby party with some of their dear friends. They made a stop to visit with Judy Bartz. Due to Judy not moving very swiftly, they weren’t able to do any other visiting. Both of them wanted to let all of you that they wish you God’s Blessings and are sorry the time spent couldn’t be longer. They are both doing well and traveling a lot.Vera has semi retired but is still doing some hospice

work. That is her passion. Pastor is still active and still preaches when needed. He wanted Judy to make sure you know that he has all of you in his heart and prayers.

MUSIC NOTES

The Story of “Jesus Loves the Little Children” Steve Randolph

During the Civil War, soldiers from both the Confederacy and the Union often sang as they marched. One of the most popular songs of that era was “Tramp, Tramp, Tramp”, composed by George Frederick Root. The chorus is printed below:

Tramp, tramp, tramp, the boys are marching, Cheer up, comrades they will come,

And beneath the starry flag we shall breathe the air again Of the free land in our own beloved home.

Several years after the Civil War ended, Clare Herbert Woolston used this Civil War tune as he wrote lyrics to the children’s song, “Jesus Loves the Little Children”. This is one of the best-known children’s hymns and it is sung around the world, although most people mistakenly believe that the chorus and alternate choruses are the entire song. The chorus and the alternate choruses, are:

Jesus loves the little children, Jesus died for all the children…. All the children of the world.Red and yellow, black and white, Jesus rose for all the children…. They are precious in His sight,Jesus loves the little children of the world. Jesus lives for all the children…

Newer versions of the chorus have different lyrics for the line “Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight”. One version inserts the color “brown” between “red” and “yellow”. Another version rephrases the entire line: “Every color, every race, all are covered by His grace”. There are numerous other variations of the chorus. Two other versions are printed below:

Jesus loves the little children, Jesus loves the little children, All the children of the world. All the children of the world, Fat and skinny, short and tall, English, Irish, Dutch and Jew, Jesus loves them one and all, And the little Norwegian, too. Jesus loves the little children of the world. Jesus loves the little children of the world.

The little-known verses that Woolston wrote for the hymn are as follow: Jesus calls the children dear, Jesus is the Shepherd true “Come to Me and never fear, And He’ll always stand by you For I love the little children of the world; For He loves the little children of the world I will take you by the hand, He’s a Savior, great and strong, Lead you to the better land, And He’ll shield you from the wrong, For I love the little children of the world” For He loves the little children of the world. (Refrain) (Refrain)

I am coming, Lord, to Thee, and Your soldier I will be, For You love the little children of the world; And Your cross I’ll always bear, and for You I’ll do and dare, For You love the little children of the world. (Refrain)

But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (Luke 18:16)
